Urban Hunting
Urban Hunting
***Slow down and use intuition to navigate urban spaces to uncover the hidden treasures which lurk just out of sight.*** Many of us live disconnected from the flow of the world around us. By quieting the mind and focusing on the liminal space between thought you may find a more spontaneous way to navigate your life leading you to the hidden treasures which lurk just beyond sight. Join me, and I will ease you into the art of listening and hunting with discernment, not hunger.

Krishnamurti-Inspired Sunday Dialogue
Krishnamurti-Inspired Sunday Dialogue
**Here we meet up outside of the restaurant setting, in a beautiful room at the Tibetan Buddhist Centre in London. The quiet venue is helpful for perhaps a greater deep dive and attention to our topic.** Together we shall be exploring some of the themes that Krishnamurti is proposing but, more importantly, that we ourselves are actually facing in everyday life. Krishnamurti is showing us what he sees about human conditioning and the lack or freedom and love that dominates existence. Our inquiry is to see this conditioning for ourselves and to perhaps bring about fundamental change? **Dialogue Dates For 2026** * Sunday 8th February * Sunday 8th March * Sunday 12th April * Sunday 10th May * Sunday date in June awaiting confirmation * SORRY THE CENTRE IS CLOSED DURING JULY & AUGUST * Sunday 13th September * Sunday 11th October * Sunday 8th November * Sunday 13th December **The Dialogue** As we sit together and exchange on any unresolved topics of our own lives or of life in general. Are these issues shared or are they also deeply personal? What is real listening to each other or is my listening and attention already conditioned? What is authentic inquiry and can we think together during our dialogue? This dialogue is not a philosophical or intellectual exercise; we are actually engaging in direct observation as we deep dive into our inquiry. In doing so, we may uncover a whole new approach to life. **Refreshments** Do come early and have a cup of tea with friends here at the Tibetan Buddhist Cafe on the premises. You can also go and sit in the little garden outside or relax in the lovely library for more private informal dialogues between participants. I will be present at the premises cafe for pre dialogue get togethers: (please contact me if you want me to be there at a specific time...) **Contribution Price for the Dialogue** There will be a cost of £10 per dialogue per person to cover the hiring of the room, thank you **[FOR FURTHER INFO ON THIS & OTHER EVENTS VISIT HERE](https://open-door-worldwide.com/event/krishnamurti-inspired-group-dialogue-buddhist-temple-london/)**

JON's40th BIRTHDAY HIKE: Nutbourne to Bosham : New hike alert!
JON's40th BIRTHDAY HIKE: Nutbourne to Bosham : New hike alert!
Psssssst, the secret is out! The event of the year! Mama Jon is turning 40! WHAAAAAAT?! I know, I know, I look like I am late 20th at most, what can I say? Some people are just pretty :) So what else can I do to celebrate my birthday? Well, a new wintry hike of course, in the company of my favourite humans, the Jonions. You do not need to know me to join, so come and have fun with us! I first discovered this hike by accident, I was on a trip to a nearby semi-island that had been closed due to a collapsed bridge, well luckily for us, I decided to check out this new place and what a delight it was! So pretty that I have decided to finally put it up for my lovely Jonions to discover... The hike isn't difficult, it is Sunday after all so I have chosen hill free and by the sea. We will walk about 10 miles in and around the Chichester Harbour Estuary surrounded by water, trees and pretty villages in this area of natural outstanding beauty. The village of Bosham is particularly beautiful and we will have quite some views of it from across the estuary, that place is a hidden treasure that has kept its middle ages vibe. Once an important place, history remembers it in the famous Bayeux tapestry. [Bosham - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bosham) Most of the hike will be along the estuary and should offer some gorgeous view of Britain's most important natural harbour and is part of the famous Solent Way in West Sussex. Evidently afterwards, we are likely to make our way to a restaurant or pub for some tasty food before we head back to good old London. We can celebrate my birthday together or you can just hop back on the train earlier if you are too tired but this hike will not be exhausting, you will burn some calories without too much efforts. INFORMATION: COST: £17 via PayPal for the guide's fee About £28 in cash for the train, we will have a 35% discount with a group saver if we buy our train tickets together and will get an off peak day return meaning that we do not actually pay for the return journey. INCLUDED: Guided trip The photographs that I will have taken on the day and that I will share on the WhatsApp group. A great time with lovely people NOT INCLUDED: Train Anything not mentioned above WHAT TO BRING: Waterproof shoes for the hike, preferably hiking shoes, otherwise good trainers; Weather appropriate clothes, including waterproofs if there is a chance of rain; Water bottle; Packed lunch and snacks. MEETING POINT: London Waterloo at 08:30 am, just by the clock in the main hall of the train station, NOT the tube station. ATTENTION: Our trips will not be cancelled due to weather conditions so please ensure that you do wear and carry appropriate clothing. 😄 POLICIES: 1: This group is designed for the pleasure and enjoyment of all of us, we do not accept any derogatory comments or behaviours towards anyone. Racism, discrimination and other unacceptable behaviours will only lead to your rejection to any of our trips and this without exception. By signing up to my events, you agree to this and these conditions.
LCC CITY DRIFTING: Isle of Dogs to Thamesmead [WEST LONDON]
LCC CITY DRIFTING: Isle of Dogs to Thamesmead [WEST LONDON]
Welcome back ramblers, rovers, loungers and loafers and happy 2026! It's a new year, but we're picking where we left off, in the onetime capital of cockney London with its dockworkers and gangsters, the Isle of Dogs - which became the landing-pad for an invasion of alien Thatcherites in the 1980s with the construction of Canary Wharf, which now towers over the council estates and parklands of this misunderstood peninsula. From there we'll head west, looking eventually to end up in the Brutalist wonderland (featured in Kubrick's *Clockwork Orange*!) of Thamesmead, possibly by way of the free Woolwich Ferry service from north shore to south. Meet at Canary Wharf station, out in front of the big curved class canopy. Elizabeth Line services at Abbey Wood will get us home. See you there! Check planned TfL disruptions here - our day should be all clear for most everybody: https://content.tfl.gov.uk/planned-track-closures.pdf A little background on our City Drifting project here: **Now just wait a minute. What the hell is a drift ([dérive](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D%C3%A9rive))?** A drift is any unplanned journey through the urban landscape in which participants practice a form of radical mindfulness, collectively exploring new ways of relating mentally, ideologically and materially to the "ordinary" urban environment we all think we know so well. First theorised publicly by Situationist thinker, artist and provocateur Guy Debord in his 1956 essay *[Theory of the Dérive](https://libcom.org/article/theory-derive-guy-debord)*, drifting is a sort of *critique of ideology* done by walking, looking, and feeling. **The urban environment of London is not a neutral space:** it is packed with surveillance equipment, anti-homeless architecture, consumerist [Gruen transfers,](https://www.smartcapitalmind.com/what-is-the-gruen-transfer.htm) crowd management systems and security perimeters, among a thousand other subtle and not-so-subtle methods of population control. Moreover, our everyday relationship to the city and its pathways is conditioned deeply by our habits of movement and our habitual perceptions: our commute to work, to school, our nips down to the shops, etc. **All these routines create what Marxists call a *reified* relationship with the urban environment: through over-familiarity it becomes something seemingly natural, "just there", ordinary, unchangeable - boring.** This boredom and familiarity kills the radical imagination, without which we're fucked. To be able to start to imagine how society could be transformed, we also need to imagine how spaces, buildings, their use, their whole purpose (and who these serve) could themselves be transformed. A necessary step in this process, according to Debord and the Situationists, is the drift. Like the 19th-century gentleman *[flâneur](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fl%C3%A2neur),* by wandering the city with an attitude of "fresh eyes", we can shake loose our ingrained sense of what London and its streets are like. **As a collective, we will work to "estrange our senses" and see the streets, buildings and people differently, as if we were encountering them for the first time.** That is to say: these aren't just random walks around London - with the right frame of mind, they will be opportunities to turn the world upside down, if only for a moment! But don't take it from me - as Debord observed: *"In a dérive one or more persons during a certain period **drop their relations, their work and leisure activities, and all their other usual motives for movement and action, and let themselves be drawn by the attractions of the terrain and the encounters they find there.** Chance is a less important factor in this activity than one might think: from a dérive point of view cities have [psychogeographical](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychogeography) contours, with constant currents, fixed points and vortexes that strongly discourage entry into or exit from certain zones."* See you on the streets comrades, and remember, as [Raoul Vaneigem](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raoul_Vaneigem) once wrote: *"All space is occupied by the enemy. We are living under a permanent curfew. Not just the cops — the geometry".*

AnimanJapan Anime & Manga Club!
AnimanJapan Anime & Manga Club!
If you love anime & manga then please join us for our weekly meetups, where we basically just sit, chat and read anime & manga! We usually sit in the back of the pub. If the weather is nice we may sit outside at the back of the pub, or even outside on the downstairs floor. In this meetup, you can BYOM (bring your own manga) or read one from the selection we will bring. See this as an opportunity to discover, recommend or simply enjoy Japanese comics & anime with like-minded people! Note: This is not a book club. Also, the TCR bar is kind enough to allow us to use their space to host this meetup, and has asked if possible for attendees to support the venue by purchasing a drink or food while you're there. Please don't bring your own food or drink to consume at the venue, as the venue does not allow this! You can also join our discord group: [https://discord.gg/nDMBbQ2CKu](https://discord.gg/nDMBbQ2CKu)

Dale Gnidovec, Curator of the Orton Hall Museum of Geology at The Ohio State University, will be presenting a program he has wanted to share with us for a long time: Plate Tectonics. His description of his program: Continents on the move - Nothing in Earth history makes sense without moving continents - it tells us why mountains, volcanoes, minerals, and fossils are where they are. This talk examines the evidence for continental drift, why it was disbelieved, and explains how the more-encompassing theory of plate tectonics was developed and eventually proven. Dale is an energetic, incredibly knowledgeable, and very entertaining speaker and this will be another wonderful program by Dale. Hope to see you there! Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk. Going forward our meetings will be hybrid.
