Improv Night at the Happy Treehouse - DC’s NEW Improv Troupe - The Ripple Effect
Improv Night at the Happy Treehouse with The Ripple Effect Improv Troupe
Let’s be honest. Life gives us plenty of serious moments.
This night is not one of them.
Join us from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM for a night of spontaneous comedy with The Ripple Effect, an improv troupe that travels around the DMV bringing laughter to places where people could use a little more joy.
Hospitals, community events, gatherings like this one. Anywhere people need a good laugh, we show up and start a ripple.
And once the laughter starts, it spreads fast.
If you’ve never seen improv live before, you’re in for a treat. Nothing is scripted. No one knows what’s going to happen next, including us. The entire show is built in real time based on your suggestions from the audience.
You might shout out a job.
A location.
A random object.
And suddenly you’re watching a scene about a dog therapist with boundary issues or a married couple arguing about who forgot to charge the emotional support Roomba.
That’s the magic of improv. Quick thinking, unexpected twists, and the kind of laughter that sneaks up on you.
Why people love watching improv:
*You laugh harder because you never see the joke coming.
*You get to participate by shouting out ideas that shape the scene.
*You watch performers build something hilarious out of thin air.
And the whole audience ends up laughing together because everyone is experiencing something that has never happened before and will never happen again.
You’ll definitely walk out feeling lighter than when you walked in.
And along the way you might meet a few new people who also enjoy laughing.
Because honestly… who doesn’t want funny friends?
The vibe for the evening
This is a relaxed BYOB potluck gathering under the pavilion.
*Bring your favorite drink.
*Bring a dish to share.
*Bring a lawn chair if you have one.
If you forget a chair, no problem. You can grab one of the chairs here, relax on the in-ground trampoline, or find a cozy spot around the pavilion.
We’ll have the fire going, s’mores ready, and plenty of room to settle in and enjoy the show.
Think backyard comedy club meets campfire hangout.
Great people.
Great laughs.
A little silliness.
And a ripple of joy spreading through the crowd.
Come join us,
Janine, your happy host

Volunteering at the Arlington Food Assistance Center
Join the Jaycees in volunteering at the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC)! We sort donated canned goods or bag portions of dry goods or produce for AFAC's weekly food distributions to low-income families in Arlington. AFAC is a long-time community partner of the Arlington Jaycees!
After volunteering at AFAC, the group will usually meet up for food and drinks nearby in Shirlington!
So that we can appropriately plan the tasks to do for the right number of volunteers, **PLEASE UPDATE YOUR RSVP** as soon as possible whether or not you are able to attend. We have to limit the number of volunteers due to limited space at AFAC, and don't want spots to be taken by people who sign up but don't show up.
AFAC is located at 2708 South Nelson Street and Four Mile Run Drive. There is street parking available near the building although parking spots are limited. The Volunteer Entrance is the GRAY DOOR by the loading dock. Once inside, the volunteer sign-in station is ahead and to the right.
Volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes (no sandals or flip-flops) and must have your hair covered while bagging food. You can bring a hat from home or AFAC will provide disposable hairnets.
At 2:30, or when we are done at AFAC, we will head to **Guapos** in nearby Shirlington for food and drinks.
The Arlington Jaycees (part of Junior Chamber International) is the premier nonprofit in Arlington that provides young people (ages 21-40) with opportunities for personal & professional growth, business networking, community involvement and social engagement in the Arlington Community and worldwide. Our mission is **leadership development through community service**. Fairfax Bible Study MeetUp (FBSM) This Saturday - Come Join Us!
Hello Everybody!
Join us this Saturday at 11 AM at the Fairfax Wegmans as we continue our Bible study and discussions.
Recently, we've been studying the "types" (patterns or pictures) of Jesus in the Old Testament in chronological order starting with creation. We will go all the way to David as a type of Jesus the King.
As anyone who's attended before knows, we have open discussions. Our goal is always to grow in our love, knowledge, and relationship with Jesus and to have fellowship.
We invite the presence of the Holy Spirit as we meet together and we've had some great conversations and revelations. Please join us as we continue our Bible study and prayers.
God bless you all,
Mihail

National Museum of African Art

### Free Admission & No Passes Are Needed to Enter!
**What is the Pride & Belonging in African Art Exhibition?**
***From the exhibition's webpage on the Museum's website:***
*"Here: Pride and Belonging in African Art* explores how LGBTQ+ artists from Africa and its diaspora are part of a larger, joyful story of African art history.
Artists’ voices are central to this exhibition, which features works by Zanele Muholi, Toyin Ojih Odutola, Rotimi Fani-Kayode, Leilah Babirye, Jim Chuchu, Ṣọlá Olúlòde, among many LGBTQ+ artists from across Africa and its diaspora.
*Here* is based on years of close collaboration and dialogue with these artists and their communities. Through their art, they invite us into their worlds and explore themes of identity and belonging. *Here* is the largest exhibition on this subject to date, with nearly 60 artworks.
While their experiences are unique to them, they speak to issues that unite everyone: the importance of family, spirit, standing up for oneself and others, imagining the future, making intimate connections, finding belonging, embracing potential and, above all, experiencing joy. They are united by a simple, shared declaration: We are here.

Contra dance with Big Scioty May 2 - Clinton Heights Lutheran church
**Caller: Richard Ades**
**Band: The McKenzies**
**Clinton Heights Lutheran Church**
**15 Clinton Heights Ave, Columbus, OH 43202**
WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing!
Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor.
Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 7:30 - 8:00, followed by dancing 8:00 - 10:30. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner.
Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot.
For more information contact me or check out our website: [www.bigscioty.com](http://www.bigscioty.com/)
Please bring your own refillable water bottle.
