By bypassing traditional load balancers for return traffic, DSR boosts bandwidth and performance, enabling efficient handling of high-throughput workloads like AI model inference and training in cloud-native setups. **Topic 2: Signing eBPF for Security (with Hornet LSM)** Julian Zhuang discusses enhancing eBPF program security via cryptographic signing integrated with the Hornet Linux Security Module (LSM). This approach verifies eBPF code integrity before kernel loading, reducing vulnerabilities in observability, networking, and security tools while ensuring safe deployment in production environments.
Social Book Club - Science Fiction Circle 🪐
Social Book Club - Science Fiction Circle 🪐
Heyho and welcome to our cozy Science Fiction Circle which is part of the Social Book Club! We meet every month to discuss one book (or short story). This time we read the hard science fiction novel **"Echopraxia" (2014)** by the Canadian author **Peter Watts**, sequel of the book "Blindsight", which we already discussed in November. It's not necessary to have read the first part, but it helps to understand some concepts that are not explained in the second. Anyway please read at least "Echopraxia" before the book club, to follow the discussion. We meet at IKEA Westbahnhof at JOE&JOE'S in the 5th floor. Drinks and some food can be bought there.

Vienna.rb #67 - Ruby Spring Meetup
Vienna.rb #67 - Ruby Spring Meetup
Join us for the first meetup in 2026! ⭐️ Are you interested in the Ruby language or Ruby on Rails? Join us. We have great talks, good vibes, and yummy snacks! 😋 **Talks** \~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~ 🗣️ [Peter Solnica](https://solnic.dev/) ▶️ Structured Logging in Ruby: Where We Are and Where We're Heading 🗒️ Ruby's logging ecosystem is evolving, and there's a lot of momentum to build on. In this talk, we'll explore the current state of logging in Ruby and compare it with ecosystems like Elixir, where a more capable, well-designed logger is built right into the standard library. We'll dive into recent developments in Rails - including its new structured events API - and how they connect to the broader picture of structured logging, error handling, and tracing. Along the way, we'll build a vision for what Ruby's standard library could offer: a powerful, extendable logger that makes structured logging a natural part of every Ruby project. 🗣️ [Marie-Therese Fischer ](https://fischer.codes/) ▶️ Building Games with Ruby 🗒️ What do you end up with when you strip Rails from a Rails developer? Plain Ruby. Join me as I explore the language behind the framework through the lens of game development. By building a simple terminal game and a 2D platformer, I’ll break down the essential building blocks every game is built on - from loops and input handling to visuals. We'll look at how stepping away from the 'magic' of Rails to build games can lead to a deeper understanding of Ruby logic and application structure. 🗣️ [Christoph Lipautz](https://github.com/unused) ▶️ The Art of Testing Nothing 🗒️ Traditional CI/CD pipelines often waste significant resources re-validating unchanged code, creating a bottleneck in the development lifecycle. This session explores the results of my attempts to shift from exhaustive execution to smart omission. I'll discuss how doing nothing turns into a technical strategic advantage while maintaining confidence. **Location** **\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~** Mariahilfer Str. 97/4, 1060 Wien **Sponsors** \~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~ ⭐ [Meister](https://www.meisterlabs.com/jobs/) Founded in 2006 by Till Vollmer and Michael Hollauf, Meister’s journey from start-up to scale-up has been a story of continual growth. What started with a vision to create a simple visual mind-mapping tool has become not one but two collaborative tools that help teams everywhere focus on the work that matters. Thank you to Meister for hosting and providing us with refreshments and snacks! 🙌 \~\~\~ ⭐ Looking to sponsor or give a talk? We are looking for sponsors and speakers. Data & Analytics Wednesday - Google Analytics Alternatives
Data & Analytics Wednesday - Google Analytics Alternatives
**Google Analytics Alternatives** Is it finally time to make the switch away from Google Analytics? Two-and-a-half years ago Jason Packer asked this question at Columbus Web Analytics Wednesday. Since then: Google’s Universal Analytics has been sunset, we’ve changed our name to Columbus Data & Analytics Wednesday, and Jason has released two editions of his book “Google Analytics Alternatives”. Fresh off the release of the 2nd edition of his book, we thought it was time to re-open this conversation. While people love to complain about it, GA’s market share has remained relatively constant (at least in the United States). Why is that? You won’t find any complaints about GA4 in this talk, but rather an overview of what’s currently available in the market and how to frame your decision-making process. We’ll also be giving out some free copies of Jason’s book! So even if you’ve got a “GA4Lyfe” tattoo (no judgement), there’s free books to go with the free pizza and beer. Thanks to our 2026 sponsors: [Clarivoy](https://www.clarivoy.com), [What Box Consulting Group](https://www.whatboxconsultinggroup.com), [Conductrics](https://www.conductrics.com), and [Piwik PRO](https://piwik.pro) More info at [cbusdaw.com](https://cbusdaw.com)
CBusData - Discover the Power of Window Functions
CBusData - Discover the Power of Window Functions
Window functions have nothing to do with the Windows operating system but provide a “window” to a result set when used in SQL queries. They are powerful, set-based methods to view data in unexpected ways. Window functions provide easy, set-based solutions to solve some common problems: * Using running totals * Performing operations in intervals * Identifying data gaps and islands * Performing aggregates without losing detail Many people are confused by window functions and do not know how to use them properly. This session will explore window functions, how they work, and how to use them. Demonstrations with several examples will solidify how window functions can simplify queries and make them more powerful.
