What to bring
Please bring your own ukulele. If you can't find one in time, I have two spare ukuleles that you can borrow for this meetup. You can reserve them by leaving a comment in the comments section below.
You can bring snacks/food to the venue but no BYO drinks, please. A wide range of non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks are available for purchase at very reasonable prices.
The session is free but there is a donation box if you like our sessions and want to contribute to our operating expenses.
Meeting place
Venue will be the Flemington-Kensington RSL, 25-27 Rankins Road, Kensington, VIC 3031.
How to Get There
Train - From the city, catch a Craigieburn Line train and get off at Newmarket Station, which is 3 stops from Southern Cross Station or 2 stops from North Melbourne. Exit the station, walk 200 metres to Racecourse Road. Head east (away from the station) along Racecourse Road for 250 metres. Then turn right into Rankins Road. The RSL is about 100 metres down Rankins Road, on your left.
Tram - The No. 57 tram from the city to West Maribyrnong stops about 200 metres away from the RSL. Get off at stop 25 (Wellington St & Racecourse Rd). Head east along Racecourse Rd and turn right into Rankins Road.
Driving - Park along Rankins Road or Parsons Street (around the corner). If you park along Rankins Road outside the RSL, there is a 2-hour limit. But if you park further down Rankins Road (one block further), there is no limit.
How we conduct our sessions
For the first 20-25 minutes we usually play very easy songs which are suitable for beginners (even complete beginners), and serve as a warm-up for more experienced players. Beginners, try to attend this part of the session, it's the most important bit for you! The next 40 minutes is usually devoted to learning new songs, according to the theme of week. We will then have a 10-minute break. The last 50 minutes is spent playing songs that participants pick from a list.
Important
If you are late, please use the meetup app to send messages to me. If you can't attend at the last minute, please change your RSVP or send a message. cheers,
Fi

Dating for Neurodivergents – Practical Strategies & Real Talk
## **Dating for Neurodivergents – Practical Strategies & Real Talk**
**Hosted by:** Neurospicy in Bayside
**Presented by:** Honor Newman — psychology background, mindset coach, and proudly neurodivergent
Dating can feel confusing or overwhelming when you’re neurodivergent. This workshop offers a supportive, low-pressure space to explore how to date in a way that feels safe, authentic and less stressful.
Honor will share her experiences of dating masked and unmasked, navigating apps with anxiety, and the common pitfalls that trip ND people up. We’ll cover building a profile that feels like you, moving from chatting to date one, communicating without spiralling, and attracting healthier matches. Safety, pacing, boundaries and reducing overwhelm are all part of the conversation.
The session is interactive with group discussion, reflective prompts and Q&A woven throughout.
***
### **FAQ**
**Is this a dating event?**
No. It’s a skills and insight workshop. Not for meeting a partner. Clear boundaries will be set.
**Who is it for?**
Anyone who identifies as neurodivergent or suspects they might be.
**What else is covered?**
Managing anxiety, avoiding info-dump roadblocks, meeting people offline, first-date basics, fashion tips, profile mistakes, trauma triggers, and more.
**Will it be overwhelming?**
We aim for a calm, supportive space with optional participation. Quiet listeners are very welcome.
**Can I ask personal questions?**
Yes. There’s Q&A time and an anonymous option for anything sensitive.
**Does this workshop cover queer-specific dating?**
Some principles apply across orientations — things like pacing, safety, boundaries, profile clarity and communication skills. But Honor isn’t a queer-dating specialist, so she won’t speak on experiences or dynamics she doesn’t know firsthand. The focus stays on ND-friendly dating foundations that help in most contexts.

Contra dance Dec. 20 (First Unitarian Universalist Church)
# **Band: Firefly Trace, caller Kenny Greer**
Beginner lesson at 7:30, regular dancing begins at 8:00
**Sponsor: All Soles Contra and Square Dancing, First Unitarian Universalist Church, 93 W. Weisheimer Rd., Columbus OH 43214**
WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing!
Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor.
Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 7:30 - 8:00, followed by dancing 8:00 - 10:30. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner.
Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot.
Please bring your own refillable water bottle.
Free in-person event: Take Control of Your Mental Health
It’s time to take control of your mental health. How do you get rid of stress, anxiety and uncertainty? These emotions are buried deep in your reactive mind. Find out what the reactive mind is, and in the process find yourself.
Have you ever suffered from a traumatic experience, a deep loss or been through a painful breakup? Has your ability to communicate suffered as a result? And after that, even though you "moved on" did you find that things were never quite the same? Have you ever looked at childhood photos, or reminisced your early life and wondered where that happiness and spark went?
Are your emotions out of your own control? Have you ever felt, even if you aren’t aware of it, that possibly you are getting in your own way of your happiness and success? How does this affect your self-confidence?
Find out what is at the root of all stress, anxiety, depression and self-doubt. Find out how and why you hold yourself back from achieving your goals and having the life you have dreamed of. As soon as you learn what is at the root of these unwanted conditions, you’ll see it is something you can DO something about. You will not be labeled or categorized at this MeetUp.
