In this delightful comedy, a young independent girl (Brigitte Bardot) from out-of-town is discovered by Judith (Micheline Presle), the editor-in-chief of a women’s magazine. The girl becomes Chouchou, a famous Paris cover girl. During a shoot, she falls in love with Judith’s lover, Michel (Louis Jourdan). He cares for her professionally but he sees her as a child. Spanish Spring Weekend Fermín, an abstract painter facing a personal and financial crisis, lives in his friend’s studio in Madrid. He hides a tremor in his hand and initially refuses to enter a competition. However, he changes his mind after receiving a foreclosure notice and with the unexpected arrival of his son. Together, they will try to overcome their differences to create a modern version of Bosch’s The Garden of Earthly Delights. Considered one of the masters of contemporary Spanish comedy, Fernando Colomo wrote the script with his son Pablo, taking as a starting point their own father-son relationship, in a film they describe as a sort of “autofiction”. *Gold Diggers of 1933* gets its title from the rants of two aristocrats who consider all women in show business to be gold diggers; the pair travel to the New York theatre district to “save” a family member from his intention to marry one of them.
