Join me on this fun walk to historic Occoquan for the annual marshmallow PEEPS Show, featuring cute PEEPS dioramas displayed in Occoquan storefronts and Town Hall. After we view them all, we get to vote for our favorite. It's usually a tough choice as there are so many good ones!
We will walk two miles from Occoquan Regional Park to the town of Occoquan. The first mile will be on the dirt path with a little climb, and the second mile on the bike path along Ox Road. We'll walk two miles in Occoquan to check out the displays, then return on the paved trail to Brickmaker's Cafe for lunch (for those interested). There is some elevation gain in Occoquan Park and then returning on the bike path from the town of Occoquan.
**HIKE**: 6 miles (out and back) with 500 ft. elevation gain on paved and dirt trails, with some roots. Pace will be 2.5 -3 miles per hour while moving.
**MEET**: Upper parking lot across from Brickmakers Cafe in Occoquan Regional Park. Please arrive by 8:45AM to get everyone signed in.
**DOGS**: No dogs please, as we will be inside the Town Hall and some stores.
**FEE**: none
**RESTROOMS**: Brickmakers Cafe at start and finish
**LEADER**: Kris N. (618) 623-2484
How to get there:
From I-95 South, exit 163 for VA-642/Lorton Rd. At the end of the exit ramp take a right onto Lorton Rd. Follow Lorton Rd for 1.4 miles then turn left on to Workhouse Road. In 0.6 mile make a left at the light onto Ox Road. In 0.4 mile take a left at the light into Occoquan Park. Go about 0.7 mile and park in the big parking lot on the left, across from the Brickmakers Cafe. This is the upper level lot. Please do not park in the lower lot near the water, as that lot is for boat launch.
Volunteer Night @ The Warehouse
Come volunteer with us refurbishing donated bicycles so that they can be used again by the community! This event is open to new volunteers and existing volunteers. No mechanical experience is necessary.
Note: The warehouse location is in the alley behind 1502 Mt Vernon Ave. Enter through the gray door next to a roll-down garage door. If you drive to the location, be sure to park in the street, not in the alleys or parking lots surrounding the warehouse. And wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty with bicycle grease!
Volunteers under 18 need a parent or guardian to accompany them to their first volunteer experience and sign a liability waiver. Volunteers under 16 need a parent or guardian to accompany them at all times while volunteering with Vélocity.
Bull Run Occoquan Trail - Hemlock Overlook Regional Park west (Rating: C )
You must read the following NVHC Sign-in Sheet Statement/Liability Disclaimer, [https://nvhc.com/signin.pdf ](https://nvhc.com/signin.pdf)and then answer the question that you will see when you RSVP with "I accept" to be permitted on the hike.
**8 mile out and back lariat hike with 540 feet of elevation gain.**
**Description:**
Join us for a scenic hike along Bull Run and in the adjoining forest. We will hike on the Bull Run Occoquan Trail from Hemlock Overlook Park and proceed to Johnny Moore Stream Valley Park and take in the sights. There are rolling hills, but they are short and spread out. There is a stream crossing that is negotiable over concrete pads. This will be a nice workout!
The pace will be about 2.5 mph.
There is no restroom at the trailhead so you may want to schedule a pit stop on the way before you arrive.
**Bring:**
At *least 2 liters of water/hydration, snacks/lunch, and sturdy hiking shoes since there are some rocky areas and tree roots. Hiking poles if you use them. Bring insect repellent as some of the trail sections in Hemlock may be overgrown.*
Meet at the trailhead parking lot 15 minutes early to allow everyone to sign in and get ready to hike at 9:00am.
**Fee:** There is no parking fee.
**Dogs are welcome.** NVHC Dog policy: [https://tinyurl.com/nvhcdogpolicy](https://tinyurl.com/nvhcdogpolicy)
**Bull Run Occoquan Trail:** [https://www.novaparks.com/parks/bull-run-occoquan-trail](https://www.novaparks.com/parks/bull-run-occoquan-trail)
**Meeting Place Instructions**: We are meeting at 8:45am to sign in so we can start promptly at 9am. Look for the parking area on the right side of Yates Ford Rd, across from Paradise Springs Winery.
**GPS Coordinates 38.76605, -77.40652**
Finding the trailhead can be difficult if you are not familiar with the area. Use 13220 Yates Ford Road, Clifton VA 20124 for Google directions. You can also plug in Paradise Springs Winery. Do not put Hemlock into your GPS as that may take you to a different parking area.
**NOTE: We park in the dirt parking area across the street from Paradise Springs Winery.**
Optional post-hike rehydration at Paradise Springs Winery., Clifton, VA

Handy Bikes | Beginners' No Drop Ride
Meet in the parking lot of the Handy Bikes Service Center.
At the start of each ride, we'll go over introductions to have a sense of participants' cycling experience.
Over the course of our rides, we'll address the following:
group riding dynamics;
safety (ABC check & trail hazards); gear shifting;
hill climbing;
audible and hand communication within the group, with other trail users, and automobile drivers;
what to bring on each ride; etc...
Bring your questions, water & a snack.
When it starts getting dark earlier, we'll need lights as well.
Helmets a MUST.
If you can, and especially if you've had issues with your bike, come a bit early to have it looked at ahead of the ride.
PS - all levels are welcome to join, however, be mindful that if you are an experienced rider, please be prepared to ride at the pace of the newest rider in the group.
Each week, depending on who's in attendance, and participants' riding ability/comfort level, we may do skills practice as a group in the parking lot or at the west end of Wheeler Ave. Once everyone is comfortable, we'll go for a ride on local trails and neighborhood streets and finish back at the shop.
Happy Pedaling !!

Please bring some snacks, lunch and plenty of water. Our bikes will be always in our sight. No additional locks are required to keep your bike safe on this trip. However, perhaps some people will decide to stop in Georgetown for a snack or lunch after the ride- so bring a lock just in case you would like to do that.
For the E-bike Lovers group to be successful, we need to grow our membership carefully. Please feel free to invite other E-bike lovers, spread the word, and let's have fun.
**Hill Alert: As usual, non-assisted bikers are most welcome, but be aware of the hills on this route.**
About Fletcher's Cove:
Fletcher's Cove, called by many customers "Fletcher's Boathouse", has been in this location since the 1850s and is renowned as a fishing and recreational area.
The nearby Abner Cloud House is the oldest building on the canal, dating back to 1802. After 145 years of business, the fourth generation of the Fletcher family retired in 2004, and Guest Services Incorporated, a National Park Service concessionaire, assumed responsibility for the operation of the concessions. The area surrounding the boathouse was then officially named Fletcher's Cove, though most people still call it Fletcher's Boat House.
About the C&O Canal:
The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal operated from 1831 until 1924 along the Potomac River from Washington, D.C., to Cumberland, Maryland. The canal's principal cargo was coal from the Allegheny Mountains.
The canal’s roots begin with George Washington’s dream of a waterway trade route. 74 locks were built.
About the Labyrinth:
One of the most interesting features in the park is the labyrinth, located towards the western end of the park. Labyrinths, which date back to ancient times, encourage contemplation on the journey from the outer edge along a circular path to the center.
The TKF Foundation, a non-profit organization that promotes urban green spaces to facilitate community healing, provided funds for constructing the labyrinth and for a teak bench and a diary for visitors to use to record their experiences there.

For your riding pleasure NoVA CBG presents The OTHER Cherry Blossom Ride.
While the famous cherry blossoms are around the Tidal Basin and Hains Point, the crowds there are truly stunning, it just isn't practical to RIDE there. (Our Tidal Basin cherry blossom rides are ride to the site, park, and walk around). Lucky for us that there are other collections of blossoms around the area. One of the best is up in the Kenwood area of Bethesda. Kenwood hosts around 1200 trees that were planted in the 1930s and 40s.
The route is an "out and back" starting from the LBJ Grove / Columbia Island Marina, heading up Mt Vernon trail to Key Bridge, where we cross over and take Capitol Crescent Trail up to Kenwood. We’ll take in the trees, and then reverse route back to the start.

An RSVP of 'YES' is your digital signature and means you have read and understood MEETUP.com's:
* "Terms of Service : Section 6. Release " found at https://www.meetup.com/terms/
* NOVA-CBG's "Assumption of Risk Agreement" found @ https://www.meetup.com/novacbg/pages/1942951/NOVA-CBG_Waiver/
