· The Female Brain · by Whitney Cummings @ Beatley Library
Why do women do what they do and think what they think? Dr. Louann Brezindine, researcher, clinician, and professor at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), wanted to know. She’s co-writer of the screenplay for this movie, which suggests that the experiences of the main character, a neuropsychologist, reasonably reflect her own. The process and results of her research are dramatized here by co-writer, director, actress, and stand-up comedian Whitney Cummings, so this feature will definitely not be a boring lecture. While classified as a comedy, the movie isn’t filled with laughs but instead with awkward encounters and strained relationships. Along the way, the electrochemical causes and effects of various actions between several couples are explained – with diagrams!

Scanning Tunneling Microscope - Lab Day - Scanning and Post Processing Images
***Join us for an evening in an electronics lab where we will attempt to run clean scans of gold samples, and then clean up that data with post processing.*** This is a high sensitivity experiment, and we do not plan on being successful so early. But we've had promising results lately - so we will be putting in the time. We are NOT meeting at our usual location, but rather at Steve's house/lab.
If you RSVP, you will get a DM with the address but it's located in Silver Spring.
We will attempt full, clean lab - clean tip repeated scanning tests to see what we can learn and improve. We will experiment with online attendees, but if all possible showing up in person is strongly encouraged. Online join link is: - [https://meet.jit.si/mocomakers](https://meet.jit.si/mocomakers)
Our community is building (and documenting for other teams) how to build a scanning tunneling microscope using a mix of common and 3D printed parts. This will allow us to scan and visualize a single atom - an ambitious we are doing over the course of a few months.
The MoCo Makers community is one of the most innovative and competent groups in Maryland, and we've done everything from [publishing cancer research](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38136356/), to [launching products](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gotim/cozy-curvy-multi-contour-pillow), [winning grants](https://covidinfocommons.datascience.columbia.edu/awards/2014255), and inspiring thousands.
Now our biggest challenge yet has appeared. We are building a Scanning Tunneling Microscope, that will allow us to scan and visualize single atoms.
To get a better idea of what we are doing, see our reference project here: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7N3OqTEq08g](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7N3OqTEq08g)
All starting CAD, code, and reference files should exist. However, let's be the first Maker community to document the build process and share it with learners around the world.
We will be publishing our work here -[ https://hackaday.io/project/202816-qt-panda](https://hackaday.io/project/202816-qt-panda)

🎧🎬 UNDERTONE (US EXCLUSIVE)
**🖥️ *It wants to be heard… so be afraid of the silence this Friday the 13th.***
**👋 What’s up guys**! Watching a horror movie on **Friday the 13th** sounds pretty perfect to me. This new film premiered at the **Fantasia Film Festival** to positive reviews from critics, though of course we’ll decide for ourselves if we agree. The movie has now been picked up by **A24** and is being released exclusively here in the U.S.
This Canadian horror film is written and directed by **Ian Tuason** in his directorial debut. It centres on a paranormal podcaster who becomes haunted after receiving mysterious audio recordings from a couple plagued by a supernatural entity. From what I understand, the film is a **sound-driven, slow-burn thriller**, leaning heavily into audio-based immersive horror and a strong sense of isolation.
If you’re a horror aficionado like myself, meet me at the **Look Dine-In Bar at 6:30 PM** for a quick catch-up before the film. The screening starts at **7:40 PM (Screen 11)** — feel free to join me in **Row D9**, or grab whichever seat works best for you. After the film, we’ll regroup and share our highlights (and maybe a few theories) for our **[Letterboxd](https://letterboxd.com/movieroadhouse)** **reflections**.
If you’re into this kind of **audio-driven horror sub-genre**, then this one might be right up your alley.
**See you guys there!**

VEGAN MEALS: As previously mentioned, the food vendor does NOT have a vegan option at this year’s Oscar Party. However, we DO have a solution! I have reached out to several individuals who are affected. If you are a vegan, plan to attend the Oscar Party and did not receive an e-mail from me, please reach out via private message post a note below. I’ll provide details off-line.
And while there won’t be a vegan meal option this year, I think we do have a workable solution. Oscar Watch Party
By popular demand, we're reserving a special meeting to watch the Oscars at Studio 35...
The Graduate
This 1967 film is widely regarded as one of the best American movies ever made. Now remembered almost as much for its Simon and Garfunkel music as its deadpan comedy and being the role that established Dustin Hoffman as the hottest actor in Hollywood. It became a cultural icon for capturing the spirit of 60s angst of a young man on the make, while garnering a batch of Oscar nominations.
After watching the movie on your own, join us to relive (or experience!) those feelings at our discussion.
