Open weekly Maracatu percussion classes for all levels – beginners to advanced – Newbies very welcome! The classes are run by Sam Alexander, a professional musician, teacher, and artist. He leads the community group Baque de Axé in London, which plays traditional Maracatu Carnival percussion music from Recife in Pernambuco, Brazil. Classes run every Monday from 6:45pm to 9:15pm (Times include set up and pack away, drumming 7:00pm to 9:00pm) and are held in Maxilla Social Club, 2 Maxilla Walk, London, W10 6SW, underneath the Westway, 5 mins from Latimer Road Tube Station on the Hammersmith & City/Circle Lines. £15/session (payable on the evening via contactless reader (referred) or cash). Come and play board games! Join us for tabletop board and card games such as Just One, Colt Express, Saboteur, Potion Explosion and Wingspan. Monday nights are aimed at welcoming players who are new to modern board games. We always try to make sure that someone is happy to teach games and welcome new people on the night, so don't worry if you're not sure what to play or who to sit with. We don't charge a fee for attending the Meetup, but you will need to pay the venue's game session fee of £8 per person (unless you have a Gold or VIP [Ludoquist membership](https://www.theludoquist.com/collections/membership-2022)). Our Agbé beginners access 3 hour Sunday afternoon workshop covers the basic techniques and rhythms for Maracatu on the Agbé (Shekere). An Agbê is a large, dried gourd or calabash that has been cleaned, polished, and covered with a net of beads. It is played by shaking using both hands, and is accompanied by choreographed dance moves. No previous musical skills required. Instrument provided. Our community of percussionists (and dancers) is a friendly family of people from all over the world who have come together to meet new people and share a love for music, dance, and expression. The Forge does have a full bar and kitchen. There is no cover charge but they do request all attendees to purchase a minimum of ~20 per person. Soft drink refills are 1 each. Please support our hosts so we can continue to provide great events for the group! The Forge has a large library of games available for us to enjoy.
