Kampong Kindness Walk with Live Share and Care
Kampong Kindness Walk with Live Share and Care
Some walks strengthen the body. Some walks strengthen the soul. **Date: 30 April 2026 (Thurs)** **Venue: Area @ Main Entrance, Mushroom Cafe · MacRitchie Reservoir** **Timing: 0830hrs - 1500hrs** Our journey begins with an 11km loop through the lush trails of MacRitchie Reservoir Park, where nature reminds us that life grows stronger when it is nurtured together. After the trail, we gather for brunch at Toa Payoh West Market ,a haven for the traditional food lover — humble, timeworn, and rich with the flavours of old Singapore. Every stall feels like a tribute to heritage, comfort, and recipes worth preserving. But the real purpose of the walk begins after lunch. We continue to Christian Outreach to the Handicapped – Emmanuel Activity Centre in Toa Payoh, where adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities learn daily skills, find friendship, and discover dignity in community. Founded in 1979 by missionary Reverend Alice Shae after she struggled to find support for her own daughter with disabilities, the organisation has spent more than four decades building a community of acceptance, empowerment and hope for persons with special needs. Their vision is simple but powerful: a compassionate and inclusive society where every individual — regardless of ability — is valued and given the opportunity to thrive. Depending on the number of participants, we may split into two groups — one visiting Block 171 and another visiting Block 161 (Autism Centre) — before regrouping again. This small visit is not just a tour, but an invitation. An invitation to see. An invitation to understand. An invitation to serve. Many of these centres depend greatly on volunteers who can spend time befriending clients, guiding simple activities, and offering companionship. Sometimes what they need most is not expertise — but presence. This walk hopes to plant a seed. Perhaps after the trail, the lunch, and the visit, some of us may feel a quiet calling — to return not just as visitors, but as volunteers. Because in the end, the most meaningful journeys are not measured in kilometres… but in the hearts we choose to walk beside. Please read this #1 - This is a number-controlled event. Please come only if you are on the attending list. #2 - We will move out at 0830 sharp. We are not able to wait for late-comers. #3 - As this is a limited number event, please check your calendar and make sure you can come before you RSVP. Do not change your attendance at the last minute and deny someone else who genuinely wishes to come.

Bedok Reservoir Park to Old Airport Road Food Centre (18 km)
Bedok Reservoir Park to Old Airport Road Food Centre (18 km)
We shall do 7 cycles IWT around Bedok Reservoir Park then brisk walk to ECP to do another 5 cycles of IWT before we walk to Mountbatten MRT or Old Airport Road Food Centre for lunch. Interval Walk Training (IWT)—alternating fast-paced walking with slow, recovery-paced walking—is a highly effective, low-impact workout that improves cardiovascular fitness, boosts metabolism, and strengthens muscles. It is superior to steady walking for lowering blood pressure, improving aerobic capacity, reducing visceral fat, and enhancing insulin sensitivity. **Key Health Benefits of Interval Walk Training (IWT):** * **Improved Cardiovascular Health:** IWT strengthens the heart and enhances blood circulation by raising and lowering the heart rate, similar to a high-intensity interval training (HIIT) session. * **Superior Metabolic Control:** It is particularly effective for managing blood sugar and increasing insulin sensitivity, making it ideal for managing or preventing type 2 diabetes. * **Weight Management & Metabolism:** The "afterburn effect" from high-intensity intervals continues to burn calories after the workout ends, aiding in fat loss. * **Increased Aerobic Capacity & Physical Fitness:** Studies indicate that switching paces consistently improves overall stamina and endurance better than continuous walking. * **Muscle & Bone Strengthening:** It strengthens the legs and core, while improving bone density, which is crucial for preventing osteoporosis in older adults. * **Improved Mental Health:** It aids in stress reduction, improves sleep quality, boosts energy, and elevates mood through the release of endorphins. * **Accessible and Sustainable:** The training is low-risk and highly adaptable to various fitness levels, making it popular for improving longevity and mobility in adults over 60. https://www.brownhealth.org/be-well/interval-walking-health-benefits-japanese-walking-method You will brisk walk pass the following parks: \- Bedok Reservoir Park \(IWT 4\.5 km\) \- Bedok Town Park \- Bedok Reservoir Road Neighbourhood Park \- Siglap Park Connector \- East Coast Park \(IWT 2\.5 km\) \- Mountbatten MRT Station \- Old Airport Road Food Centre \(Lunch\) Date: 2 May 2026 (Sat) Registration Time: 7.45 a.m. Start Time: 8.00 a.m. Start point: Bedok Reservoir MRT Station Exit A (Ground level) End Time: 12:45 - 1 p.m. End point: Mountbatten MRT / Old Airport Rd Food Centre Lunch: Old Airport Road Food Centre (Optional) Where to meet at start point?
