A reflection of the multicultural character of the city, one can find food spanning the Balkans, Baltics, Central Europe, and Eastern Europe. There will be limited time to browse these places. You can always return to any of them after the walk. Come hungry, explore these hidden gems, and share your food recommendations with the group. Yonge Street between Sheppard and Steeles Ave is lined with Korean, Chinese, Japanese, and Persian eateries. Many stay open past 10 pm. In this walk, we'll look at the urban forces that shaped the food scene here. Why the concentration along Yonge St? Why just East Asian and Persian food? How did we end up with twelve bubble tea stalls in one block? It's a story sixty years in the making. This walk is just as much about food as it is about urbanism.
