Forest Gayte Pride is a grassroots Pride in Newham, with stalls, entertainment, speakers, and other events from Friday to Sunday (but no parade). Its grown from 1 market stall & queer pub night in 2017, then a 2019 parade; though the primary aim is still giving a voice to LGBTQIA+ Newham residents; events and education, a platform for the community to express themselves in a safer, inclusive space, during pride and beyond; and educating the local community on queer issues. The previous organisers stepped down so a new committee will be running it for this 10th year. We don't have a stall this year, choosing to participate more in Southwark Pride on the same day instead - get in touch to help host one for next year. The regular Saturday Market continues as normal around the Pride stalls so there is food, drink, and other items available from them. ⚫ Events Overview: FG Pride are working with their favourite local venues and some of East London’s most influential Queers to bring a celebration of LGBTQIA+ Culture to Newham once more. Come along on Saturday 27th June for a day trip to historic Hatfield House in Hertfordshire! **About Hatfield House** The house was built in 1611 by Robert Cecil, 1st Earl of Salisbury and Chief Minister to King James I and is a prime example of Jacobean architecture. It replaced Hatfield Palace, built in 1497. Henry VIII's children, King Edward VI and the future Queen Elizabeth I, spent their youth at Hatfield Palace. His eldest daughter, who later reigned as Queen Mary I, lived there between 1533 and 1536. The [Queen Elizabeth Oak](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Elizabeth%27s_Oak,_Hatfield_House) on the grounds of the estate is said to be the location where Elizabeth was told she was queen aged 25 in 1558 following Mary I's death. Hatfield House has many objects associated with Queen Elizabeth I, including gloves and a pair of silk stockings that are believed to have been the first in England. The library displays a 22-foot (6.7 m) long illuminated parchment roll showing the pedigree of the queen with ancestors back to Adam and Eve. The Marble Hall holds the "[Rainbow Portrait](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portraiture_of_Elizabeth_I_of_England#The_Rainbow_Portrait)" of Elizabeth. Hatfield House also has formal gardens and extensive grounds which you can walk around and contains many 500 year old oak trees. The house and grounds have been used in countless films and T.V programmes, including: 'Sherlock Holmes' (2009), 'My Week with Marilyn' (2011), 'Paddington 2' (2017), 'Enola Holmes' (2020), the Netflix series 'Bridgerton' (2020) and 'The Crown' (2016). **Train tickets** GroupSave return tickets work out at £8.50 each (purchase on the day in groups of 3 when you turn up). We aim to get the 11:06am train, the journey only takes 25mins. Fast trains going back at: 4:26pm, 4:56pm and the same times past each hour. **Introduction** In our busy city, it can be difficult to find time to slow down and smell the roses! Forest bathing offers you the chance to do just that. Over the course of 2 hours, you will be guided through a multi-sensory exploration of the natural world, giving you time to slow down, breathe, and find peace among the natural world. **What is forest bathing?** Forest bathing typically consists of slow walking, mindfulness practices, and resting (seated or lying down) in nature. Remember being a kid and just watching the branches overhead in the breeze? Originating in Japan in the 1980s, Shin-Rin Yoku or forest bathing, was created as a preventative response to climbing rates of stress in urban areas. Since then, many research studies have shown that even one hour a week spent engaging with nature can significantly reduce symptoms of stress. **What to expect:** * 2-hour duration * Small group size (maximum 6) * Multi-sensory activities * Sharing circle (optional) * Herbal tea offering * A guide to take care of you, so you can truly relax into the wonder of the natural world * Phone-free environment * Opportunity to chat and connect with others (if you would like to) * **Please note there are no toilets available** \- there are several cafes on Mile End Road with toilet facilities\. **What to bring:** * Warm clothes; even on a summer day, spending prolonged time in the shade can begin to feel chilly! * Shoes with a good grip, and that you don't mind getting dirty * A journal and pen * A mug (for tea if you fancy it!) * Any medications you might need, such as EpiPens or inhalers. **How much is it?** This experience is offered on a donation basis; this means you can decide what you can reasonably afford to give. Spend your Sunday exploring one of Kent’s most scenic and historic countryside routes, featuring medieval castle ruins, ancient Roman history, hidden woodland trails, and one of the South East’s most impressive Victorian viaducts. Our hikes offer easy, hassle-free weekend plans, a chance to make new friends, and time to properly switch off in nature - without needing to organise anything yourself. **Logistics** 📍 Start/End point: London Blackfriars train station 🗓 When: Sunday, 28 June - meeting at 8:40AM, leaving at 9:00AM for the 9:13AM train. Estimated return into London at approximately 6:30PM (we will travel together, so please ensure you can commit for the full day) 💷 Cost: £33 (includes return train tickets + guided hike) **What We'll See Along the Way** Less than an hour from London, this route takes us through some of Kent’s most fascinating countryside and historical landmarks. We’ll begin in the picturesque village of Eynsford, home to the ruins of Eynsford Castle, one of the earliest Norman stone castles in England. From there, we’ll follow riverside trails and woodland paths toward the beautiful Lullingstone castle. Along the way, we’ll explore: * The ruins of Eynsford Castle * The remains of a Roman villa dating back nearly 2,000 years * Lullingstone Castle (entrance fee not included) * The dramatic Lullingstone Viaduct viewpoint * Woodland trails, rolling hills, and quiet countryside paths * Riverside scenery and open valley views Expect a mixture of hidden trails, scenic viewpoints, ancient history, and classic Kent countryside. Breathe deeply, listen to the river, and enjoy the calm energy that comes from spending time outdoors. Walking in nature can help quiet the mind, restore focus, and reconnect us with the rhythms of the natural world. Notice the delicate shapes, textures, and shadows that Nature creates, and transform them into your own cyanotype prints. Then come to *BE Ka Art Studio*, Elena's riverside atelier in *Trinity Buoy Wharf*, for a relaxing cynotype session. In this hands-on workshop, you'll discover cyanotype. This photographic printing process uses sunlight, water, and natural materials to create stunning one-of-a-kind artworks in deep luminous blue. Using botanicals, shells, feathers, and found objects, you'll compose your own prints and watch them develop in real time. No cameras, screens, or prior experience needed. In our session together, you can expect: * Relaxing meditation & gentle forest walk * An introduction to creating mandalas through the plant lifecycle * A gathering of forest materials to create beautiful natural art in the meadow * A small gift included for reflection afterwards The session is free for the community.
