**Introduction** In our busy city, it can be difficult to find time to slow down and smell the roses! Forest bathing offers you the chance to do just that. Over the course of 2 hours, you will be guided through a multi-sensory exploration of the natural world, giving you time to slow down, breathe, and find peace among the natural world. **What is forest bathing?** Forest bathing typically consists of slow walking, mindfulness practices, and resting (seated or lying down) in nature. Remember being a kid and just watching the branches overhead in the breeze? Originating in Japan in the 1980s, Shin-Rin Yoku or forest bathing, was created as a preventative response to climbing rates of stress in urban areas. Since then, many research studies have shown that even one hour a week spent engaging with nature can significantly reduce symptoms of stress. **What to expect:** * 2-hour duration * Small group size (maximum 6) * Multi-sensory activities * Sharing circle (optional) * Herbal tea offering * A guide to take care of you, so you can truly relax into the wonder of the natural world * Phone-free environment * Opportunity to chat and connect with others (if you would like to) * **Please note there are no toilets available** \- there are several cafes on Mile End Road with toilet facilities\. **What to bring:** * Warm clothes; even on a summer day, spending prolonged time in the shade can begin to feel chilly! * Shoes with a good grip, and that you don't mind getting dirty * A journal and pen * A mug (for tea if you fancy it!) * Any medications you might need, such as EpiPens or inhalers. **How much is it?** This experience is offered on a donation basis; this means you can decide what you can reasonably afford to give. Spend your Sunday exploring one of Kentโ€™s most scenic and historic countryside routes, featuring medieval castle ruins, ancient Roman history, hidden woodland trails, and one of the South Eastโ€™s most impressive Victorian viaducts. Our hikes offer easy, hassle-free weekend plans, a chance to make new friends, and time to properly switch off in nature - without needing to organise anything yourself. **Logistics** ๐Ÿ“ Start/End point: London Blackfriars train station ๐Ÿ—“ When: Sunday, 28 June - meeting at 8:40AM, leaving at 9:00AM for the 9:13AM train. Estimated return into London at approximately 6:30PM (we will travel together, so please ensure you can commit for the full day) ๐Ÿ’ท Cost: ยฃ33 (includes return train tickets + guided hike) **What We'll See Along the Way** Less than an hour from London, this route takes us through some of Kentโ€™s most fascinating countryside and historical landmarks. Weโ€™ll begin in the picturesque village of Eynsford, home to the ruins of Eynsford Castle, one of the earliest Norman stone castles in England. From there, weโ€™ll follow riverside trails and woodland paths toward the beautiful Lullingstone castle. Along the way, weโ€™ll explore: * The ruins of Eynsford Castle * The remains of a Roman villa dating back nearly 2,000 years * Lullingstone Castle (entrance fee not included) * The dramatic Lullingstone Viaduct viewpoint * Woodland trails, rolling hills, and quiet countryside paths * Riverside scenery and open valley views Expect a mixture of hidden trails, scenic viewpoints, ancient history, and classic Kent countryside. Any participant repeatedly coughing in the space will be asked to leave immediately. - You can wear a face-covering during the sessions if you choose to. - Please come already dressed in comfortable clothing ensuring your knees, armpits and torso are covered, and with a bag for your belongings. There are bathrooms at the venue but no changing rooms. - We will provide antibacterial wipes and hand sanitisers at the venue. Please wash your hands regularly and use the hand sanitiser supplied upon entering the venue. - All touch hotspots will be regularly cleaned with disinfectant between each session. - We ask that all participants keep at least 1m physical distance at all times. Any participant repeatedly breaching this distance will be asked to leave. - We will provide clean lavender eye pillows and covers will be changed between each session. Come along on Saturday 27th June for a day trip to historic Hatfield House in Hertfordshire! **About Hatfield House** The house was built in 1611 by Robert Cecil, 1st Earl of Salisbury and Chief Minister to King James I and is a prime example of Jacobean architecture. It replaced Hatfield Palace, built in 1497. Henry VIII's children, King Edward VI and the future Queen Elizabeth I, spent their youth at Hatfield Palace. His eldest daughter, who later reigned as Queen Mary I, lived there between 1533 and 1536. The [Queen Elizabeth Oak](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Elizabeth%27s_Oak,_Hatfield_House) on the grounds of the estate is said to be the location where Elizabeth was told she was queen aged 25 in 1558 following Mary I's death. Hatfield House has many objects associated with Queen Elizabeth I, including gloves and a pair of silk stockings that are believed to have been the first in England. The library displays a 22-foot (6.7 m) long illuminated parchment roll showing the pedigree of the queen with ancestors back to Adam and Eve. The Marble Hall holds the "[Rainbow Portrait](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portraiture_of_Elizabeth_I_of_England#The_Rainbow_Portrait)" of Elizabeth. Hatfield House also has formal gardens and extensive grounds which you can walk around and contains many 500 year old oak trees. Foraged Art at the Fruit & Forest Farm Jun 27 Join us for a morning of Mindfulness, Meditation and Foraged Art Mandalas at the Together We Grow Fruit & Forest Farm in Newark, OH. In our session together, you can expect: * Relaxing meditation & gentle forest walk * An introduction to creating mandalas through the plant lifecycle * A gathering of forest materials to create beautiful natural art in the meadow * A small gift included for reflection afterwards The session is free for the community. Donations encouraged to support the missions of both Together We Grow and Mental Health America. Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable weather appropriate clothing for an outdoor event. We recommend bringing water, bug spray and sunscreen. The event will include light walking on uneven terrain, standing in grass and wooded areas, and bending to collect natural materials. Attendees will have the option for seated rest at picnic tables at a shelter house throughout the session. Facilitated by Together We Grow Associate Director, Kristin Ambuske and, MHALC Program Manager, Julie Dement - a certified Wellness coach and yoga teacher. The emotional pain from past bad experiences easily lingers in the present, making it hard to enjoy life and create your future. Even when you think you've moved on, the negative emotions can be triggered, sending you back into the pain of that experience. And we are talking about pain; emotions such as grief, depression, anxiety, fear (or terror), boiling anger, simmering resentment, feelings of shame, blaming and regret can leave you incapacitated to a greater or lesser degree. In this local event we will be discussing the reasons why these past bad experiences have the power to affect you long after they occurred. We'll go over why the emotional pain can be so strong. We'll also discuss some simple solutions to overcome your emotional pain and be free to fully enjoy your life again. Examples of painful experiences include: * A broken relationship or divorce. * Death or loss of a loved one. * Death of a pet. * A sudden shock or bad news. * A betrayal. * Being part of an abusive relationship. * A bad injustice. * Loss of a job, position or business. * A grave illness or injury. Join us for a beautiful walk in the park this Tuesday at 7 pm! We will hike two miles through the beautiful landscaped gardens of Inniswood Metro Park. Our trail will be a combo of boardwalks, dirt trails and paved paths winding through the flowers and woods.
