Please join us for our weekly run and social - a great (free!) way to meet new people! We meet at 7pm outside The Horatia ( https://maps.app.goo.gl/p1QnyurFQh3gywov6) and head for the run together from there. You can leave a small bag or extra layer at the pub at your own risk. The winter route is around Highbury Fields and in the summer we do a loop to Clissold Park, both ending at the starting point- the Horatia pub. We run 5km at an easy pace (about 6-7 mins per km), with some people going faster and some slower. After the run, we will head to the Horatia pub for some drinks (alcoholic and soft are fine- no judgment!).

Every year we hold a Spring Bling Fling. This is a social opportunity where we wear non-running clothes adorned with any race medals earned in the last 12 months. However, don't worry if you've not done any races, we'll make sure you don't feel left out. We will meet at The Salt Quay right next to the River Thames, a short walk from Rotherhithe station (Windrush) or Canada Water (Jubilee). We have an area reserved, and if the weather is good we can spill outside. Feel free to join us from 5pm onwards. No running is required but, given we're a running group, we obviously won't stop you...

There's no better way to start the weekend than with a run in the park with a bunch of friendly people. So join us for our regular Saturday meetup! TIME: 10am (please note we leave promptly) DISTANCE: 6.5k/4 miles START LOCATION: SW corner of Kensington Gardens, just inside the Kings Arms Gate (see pin on map below. program Royal Garden Hotel into google maps for directions). We welcome all levels of runners, so everyone runs at their own pace, taking between 30 and 50mins to run a complete anti-clockwise lap of Hyde Park. then we meet up at the end and walk together to Whole Foods Market on High Street Kensington for some well-earned coffee and brunch (or to grab treats for a picnic in the park if the weather's nice). I have been studying the question of "self" online with Prof. Ellie Anderson and so I thought a prompt on the "self" might be interesting. Full confession: I had Claude create this prompt and I like it, so here goes: Imagine a thought experiment that merges two classic puzzles: > You undergo a procedure, performed neuron by neuron, in which every biological component of your brain is replaced with a functionally identical synthetic substitute. At each step, your behavior, memories, and personality remain unchanged. When the last neuron is swapped, is the consciousness experiencing the world still you? And — more pressingly — was there ever a continuous "you" to begin with? ### Questions to Wrestle With * If consciousness is purely physical, does the *gradual* nature of the replacement matter, or is it equivalent to being destroyed and rebuilt? * Could there be a "self" without continuity of experience — even moment to moment, while you sleep? On a more practical level, consider the simpler case first: **hemispherectomy** patients — people who have had an entire cerebral hemisphere surgically removed — often retain a strong sense of personal identity and continuity. This suggests "you" are not rigidly tied to specific physical material. But does that vindicate the synthetic neuron case, or merely show that identity is more *flexible* than we thought — not that it can survive *complete* substrate replacement?
