Even though each village had its own distinct history and characteristics, the two were miles apart in their development. One was industrial, and the other residential, all under the watchful gaze of Mr. Jarvis. Oh and let's not forget the brewer Mr. Bloore, notice the spelling? Named for the wild roses that littered the hills above the homestead of William Jarvis and his wife Mary, Rosedale is an iconic Toronto district with elegant houses, manicured lawns, and a fascinating history! Yorkville to the southwest is tied in with the history of Rosedale, but barely, and runs parallel to the development of both the neighbourhood and the surrounding area. With the Yorkville Brick Works, and the tidy ravine to the east it was a picturesque part of Toronto that remained pretty much rural into the late 19th century. On this walking tour we explore both districts, and how Rosedale emerged as an affluent Toronto suburb, but all was not good, as the district approached the 1930s depression. With a large proportion of rooming houses, Rosedale slipped in influence and affluence. This walking tour is for all walking levels and fitness skills. Please dress for the season and bring water. And remember to bring your love of history. This tour begins across the street from the Rosedale Subway Station in Ramsden Park. The tour returns to the start location after the walk! This tour has a ticket price of $15.00 per person! \*\* **Please note: Please e-transfer the ticket amount when booking your space for this tour! 🍪👑 ULTIMATE COOKIE CRAWL: TORONTO’S SWEETEST SHOWDOWN 👑🍪
🍪👑 **ULTIMATE COOKIE CRAWL: TORONTO’S SWEETEST SHOWDOWN** 👑🍪 We’re Finding the Best Cookie in the City. For Research. Obviously. I’ve done the hard work (you’re welcome) and curated some of the top cookie spots and bakeries in Toronto so we can settle the ultimate question: Who makes the best cookie in the city? Is it gooey and underbaked? Crisp and golden? Thick and dramatic? Stuffed, dipped, or classic chocolate chip perfection? Join me for a sugar-fueled city walk as we explore some of Toronto’s most talked-about cookie destinations. And no — you don’t have to love cookies to join. You don’t even have to order one. You can simply come for the walk, the social energy, and the joy of watching the rest of us debate texture like it’s a competitive sport. 👉 **Don’t forget to join our WhatsApp group** – [CLICK HERE!](https://chat.whatsapp.com/H59mSCbsAi018gYANrKAnc?mode=ac_t) \*\*\* 🍪 The Cookie Lineup Here’s where we’re heading: • **Bakery Pompette** (Meetup Spot) • **The Night Baker** • **Andrea’s Cookies** • **Dear Grain** • **Midnight Cookie** • **Crumbl Cookies** • **The Well** – including Big Fat Cookies Yes. We’re committed. Lunch will be at the food court at The Well — because after multiple cookie stops, you may decide you need something… not round and sweet. \*\*\* 🚶‍♂️ The Walk This will likely be a 2-hour walk (possibly longer depending on lines and cookie enthusiasm levels). We’ll move at a steady pace, but please be comfortable walking and standing in line. You’re always welcome to leave at any time if you need to peel off early. This is part food crawl, part city walk, part social adventure. \*\*\* 💰 Important Notes Members are responsible for purchasing their own cookies. Many cookies are large — sharing is encouraged! Split with a new friend. Build community through butter and sugar. Bring cash, as some spots may prefer it. \*\*\* 🧢 Meetup Details 📍 Meetup Location: Outside The Night Baker 🫎 I’ll be wearing my Moose Hat ⏰ Meetup Time: 1:00 PM ❗ I will only wait 5 minutes End Point: The Well \*\*\* 👟 What to Bring • Water • Good walking shoes • Weather-appropriate clothing • Possibly a snack (if you want something non-sweet along the way) Comfort is key — this is a marathon, not a sprint. \*\*\* 🎟️ **Meetup Fee:** $5 cash in person **or** e-transfer to 📧 \*\*[mathewmaclean@hotmail.com**](http://mathewmaclean@hotmail.com%2A%2A/) This fee helps support the group and allows us to keep hosting events like this. Thank you for supporting community! 💖 \*\*\* 🌈 Who Is This For? This group is open to anyone who wants to be social and make friends — whether single or not. We also host: 🎬 Movies 🚶 Walks & hikes 🎭 Arts & culture outings 🍽️ Restaurant socials But today? Today is about cookies. \*\*\* ⚠️ A Gentle Reminder Sometimes life happens and plans may shift — please keep an eye out for updates. \*\*\* 👤 Organizer: Mathew Questions? Post on the event wall or email 📧 [torontomoviesandoutings@hotmail.com](mailto:torontomoviesandoutings@hotmail.com) Come for the cookies. Stay for the debates. Guild Park and gardens to bluffers park
Guild Park and gardens to bluffers park
The plan is to start hiking from Guild Park toward the Bluffs along the waterfront trail. Option 1 (moderate): We’ll do about 12–14 km at a comfortable pace. Option 2 (longer challenge): If the group is feeling good, we can extend the hike to about 15–17 km and add some elevation sections. We’ll decide together during the hike depending on the group’s energy and comfort level. Please bring layers, water, good walking shoes, and snacks. Looking forward to a great hike!

Let's go see Project Hail Mary together!
Let's go see Project Hail Mary together!
Let's all go see [Project Hail Mary](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m08TxIsFTRI) in cinema! It's a new epic sci-fi movie starting Ryan Gosling, from [Andy Weir's book](https://tpl.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S234C3970025) of the same name. It's supposed to be incredible! UPDATED! We've chosen the 3:50pm showing on Saturday, March 28th, at Imagine Cinemas Market Square. We'll meet outside 20 minutes earlier to gather and chat, and then head in 5 minutes before show time to get seated. Apparently Imagine does not show many trailers, so we expect it to start promptly. It's a long movie, 2h 36 min, so we'll come out 6:25 or so. Afterwards you can also join us at a nearby bar (see below). IMPORTANT NOTE: you'll need to [BUY YOUR OWN TICKET](https://omniwebticketing6.com/imaginecinemas/marketsquare/?schdate=2026-03-28&perfix=119275). That link should take you to the Sat 28th 3:40 showing in Auditorium #3 at Imagine Cinemas Market Square, for Project Hail Mary. If it doesn't work, [navigate yourself](https://imaginecinemas.com/cinema/market-square/). Tickets are on sale NOW (a day earlier than expected!). Some of us have seats row C 6,7,8,9. Try to buy near there. Hopefully at least some of us will end up seated next to each other. You can coordinate in the comments if you want (post the seat you bought). Finally, afterwards optionally join us at a nearby bar: C'est What, 67 Front St E Downstairs, starting at 6:20pm or so, we'll chat about the movie and have our usual 'drink beers and shoot the shit about space' good time. You're also welcome to join just for that if you want, but fair warning, we will spoil the movie for you!

Watercolour Painting Meetup
Watercolour Painting Meetup
Join us for a relaxed and creative watercolour meetup at a local café. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced painter, all skill levels are welcome. Each session will begin with brief introductions, followed by a short overview of watercolour techniques and optional theme ideas to spark inspiration. From there, you’re free to settle in and paint—either alongside the group or in your own corner of the café, depending on seating. We’ll wrap up the meetup by coming back together for a casual show-and-tell, where anyone who’d like can share their work. The meetup is free if you bring your own supplies. If you need materials, a $5 fee will cover basic watercolour supplies. Come unwind, experiment, and connect with others through art.
Better Disagreement
Better Disagreement
**SUBSCRIBE TO [THE MAILING LIST](https://torontorationality.beehiiv.com/). EVENTS ARE NO LONGER POSTED HERE.** Arguing about important things doesn’t usually lead to people changing their mind. Double Crux is a technique for making discussions more productive and understanding the actual reasoning of those who disagree with us. Sometimes it even helps to better understand the foundations of your own beliefs. Together, we'll learn about [Double Crux](https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/ya59PtGeYnCG25eWn/double-crux-in-a-box), and then break into pairs with someone we disagree with to practice finding out why our views are different and what might change our minds. ## Location Enter the Mars Atrium via University Avenue entrance. We'll meet at the food court in the basement. I'll be wearing a bright neon yellow jacket. ## Detailed Directions to the Food Court Enter from University Avenue and walk east until you see escalators. Take the escalators down. The food court is to the east of the escalators. If you are lost/confused, ask a security guard to direct you to the food court. 🌆🚶‍♂️ THE PATH WALK & LUNCH ADVENTURE 🚶‍♂️🌆
🌆🚶‍♂️ THE PATH WALK & LUNCH ADVENTURE 🚶‍♂️🌆
🌆🚶‍♂️ THE PATH WALK & LUNCH ADVENTURE 🚶‍♂️🌆 Toronto’s Underground City… Let’s Go Get Lost (On Purpose) Did you know Toronto has an entire second city beneath the city? Welcome to **PATH (Toronto)** — a 30-kilometre maze of tunnels, walkways, food courts, shops, office towers, and hidden corners connecting more than 70 buildings in the downtown core. It’s climate-controlled. It’s slightly confusing. It’s uniquely Toronto. And we’re going to explore it together — above ground first, then descending into the urban underworld like the confident city adventurers we are. [NOW Magazine piece](https://web.archive.org/web/20220429041937/https://nowtoronto.com/lifestyle/health/toronto-walk-exploring-the-path-in-winter) about the PATH awhile back. 👉 **Don’t forget to join our WhatsApp group** – [CLICK HERE!](https://chat.whatsapp.com/H59mSCbsAi018gYANrKAnc?mode=ac_t) \*\*\* 🗺️ The Plan We’ll begin at Wellesley Station and start by walking west. Then we’ll head south and eventually make our grand entrance into the PATH system. From there, we’ll continue indoors, weaving our way south through the network — past office towers, hidden corridors, and pockets of unexpected energy — all the way down to **Union Station**. At Union, we’ll head into the food court to grab lunch, sit down, and actually socialize (because that’s the point, right?). Expect lots of conversation, a little “Wait… where are we?” and a whole lot of discovering how this city secretly works. It’s part walking tour, part social hang, part urban exploration. \*\*\* 🌧️ Rain or Shine (Mostly Shine Because… Indoors) T his walk goes ahead rain or shine. The beauty of the PATH? We’ll be indoors for large portions of the route. That said, we’ll start above ground — so dress appropriately. It may be wise to bring a backpack or bag for your coat once we’re inside. You don’t want to be carrying it dramatically over your arm like you’re in a soap opera. \*\*\* 🐾 Important Notes Dogs are not allowed in the PATH system. Service animals are of course welcome. \*\*\* 🧢 Meetup Details 📍 Meetup Spot: Main entrance of Wellesley Station (near the bank of PRESTO machines) 🫎 I’ll be wearing my Moose Hat ⏰ Start time as listed — please arrive on time We’ll begin promptly so we can stay on route. We also host: 🎬 Movies 🚶 Walks & hikes 🎭 Arts & culture outings 🍽️ Restaurant meetups There’s always something happening. And remember — you can just show up on the day if you’re unsure about your schedule. \*\*\* ⚠️ A Gentle Reminder Sometimes life throws curveballs and events may need to be canceled — please keep an eye on updates. \*\*\* 👤 Organizer: Mathew Questions? Post on the event wall or email 📧 [torontomoviesandoutings@hotmail.com](mailto:torontomoviesandoutings@hotmail.com) Come for the tunnels. Stay for the laughs. Leave knowing a secret shortcut through downtown that most people still pretend to understand. Toronto has layers. Let’s go explore one of them. 🏙️✨

Long Point Classic Birding Extravaganza including Ruthven Park
Long Point Classic Birding Extravaganza including Ruthven Park
Greetings Bird Lovers, Why do we keep returning to Long Point? The answer is simple. At this time of year, there is no place in Southern Ontario quite like it for the sheer number and variety of birds we can see. Our last few trips to Long Point have been exceptional, and every visit seems to deliver something exciting. On our last two outings, we have saw several Bald Eagles, seen thousands of Sandhill Cranes, and enjoyed literally thousands of ducks. At times, it feels like stepping right into a National Geographic special. The birding can be that good. As spring begins to build, the longer days and milder temperatures make this one of the most enjoyable times to be outside. The first migrants are returning, Red-winged Blackbirds are beginning to sing, and the whole landscape starts to feel alive again. For me, spring is the most exciting season of all, and Long Point is one of those places that never disappoints. Long Point is one of Ontario’s most celebrated birding destinations and is recognized internationally as an Important Bird Area. Birds are present here year-round, but spring is when things really begin to come alive. We will be watching for a wide variety of waterfowl, Sandhill Cranes, Bald Eagles, Red-tailed Hawks, American Kestrels, and whatever other surprises the day may bring. We'll also be making a stop at Turkey Point for a chance to see rare Little Gulls and Bonaparte Gulls. We are also stopping at Ruthven Park, where we have a chance to see Tufted Titmouse and Eastern Bluebird. As always, I will keep an eye on local bird news, and if something unusual has turned up, we may adjust our route to give ourselves the best chance of seeing it. That is part of the fun at this time of year. You never know what might show up. Whether you are a seasoned birder, a newer birder, or a photographer who simply loves being out in nature, this trip is for you. Long Point is a wonderful place to enjoy birds, scenery, and the excitement of spring migration. Binoculars are recommended, and a camera is always a great idea. One of the things that makes these outings so enjoyable is the friendly atmosphere. We always have a fun group, plenty of laughs, and a shared excitement for whatever the day brings. It should be a fantastic day out, and I would love to have you join us. We will meet at the Finch Station Passenger Pick-Up and Drop-Off area at 7:45 a.m. and depart promptly at 8:00 a.m. We expect to return at approximately 5:30 p.m. after exploring several excellent birding areas southwest of Toronto. There is space for up to 3 bird lovers in my vehicle. The cost is $99 plus tax, for a total of $112. To reserve your spot, payment can be made by PayPal or by e-transfer to torontonaturelovers@hotmail.com. If you send an e-transfer, please let me know so I can manually add you to the trip. Important: transportation is provided, and spots will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Come join us for a wonderful spring day of birding, nature, and great company at one of Ontario’s very best birding destinations.
