Once the student has mastered these techniques more difficult scenarios are addressed to build a support system that will enable the student to deal with almost any situation. By teaching concepts through techniques, students are taught how to read a situation and react/respond accordingly, even if they have not experienced that exact same scenario in training. Giving students the ability to improvise is an important element of our training, this is not like learning a kata. Awareness, avoidance and pre-emption are placed high in order of priority but we recognise that you can’t always avoid a potential violent encounter. We teach everything that is needed for self defence when it’s necessary in all environments, including, highly confined, crowded spaces, cars, shopping centres, nightclubs, buses etc. We make no apologies for our civilian approach to street violence and our subsequent breakaway from the original military solutions in dealing with armed attackers: a knife defence based on somebody attacking like they were making a committed bayonet thrust will not be so effective as one that is based on somebody stabbing with an aggressive pumping/piston motion with fast recoil when we are dealing with today’s street. **Hike: Tai Po Kau Forest Hike (Yellow Trail 10 km & Blue Trail 4 km)** **Difficulty Level:** 3 out of 5 **Distance:** 14 km (approximate) **Time:** 5 hours (approximate) **Description:** Join us for an exciting day at Tai Po Kau Nature Reserve, where we’ll hike a total of 14 kilometers by combining the yellow trail and the blue trail. The yellow trail covers 10 kilometers and takes you deep into a vibrant subtropical forest. You’ll walk beneath a beautiful canopy of banyan and camphor trees that create a calming green atmosphere. After completing the yellow trail, we’ll tackle the blue trail, a 4-kilometer loop that’s perfect for getting up close with the reserve’s diverse plant and animal life. Both trails offer a chance to spot various birds and enjoy the peaceful surroundings away from the city. **What to bring:** * 2-3 liters of water (water available for sale along the way) * Snacks to eat along the way (sandwich, fruits, nuts, etc) * Comfortable shoes * Sunglasses * Headgear (cap/hat) * Sunscreen * Bug Spray * In case of Rain: plan accordingly **Toilets:** The Tai Wai MTR station will have a toilet before you exit the turnstalls. **Stores:** The Tai Wai MTR station will have stores for you to buy any last minute items. It is best to come prepared with water and snacks. **Meeting Point:** Tai Wai MTR - B. Once everyone arrives, we'll take bus 72A and alight at Chung Tsai Yuen.
