Art Appreciatrion - Sir John Lavery
Art Appreciatrion - Sir John Lavery
This week we'll be considering the work of **Sir John Lavery.** An Irish artist famous for his stylish portraits and lively scenes of city life. He rubbed shoulders with high society in London and Paris, painting everyone from socialites to everyday folks with flair. Mixing realism with a splash of impressionistic light, his work really captures the energy and mood of his subjects. Come and learn with us! All welcome. *If you come after 6.45 ring the doorbell!*
Tim’s walks: William Hogarth in Smithfield
Tim’s walks: William Hogarth in Smithfield
A SECOND WALK Come with Tim on a further exploration of Smithfield walking in the footsteps of the great C18 painter and engraver William Hogarth. He has been called the father of English Art as he developed a style uniquely English, in fact, uniquely London. It was a reflection of the violence, hypocrisy, squalor and vitality of the streets of London. From humble beginnings he became wealthy and famous but fashions moved on and he never became part of the art establishment. We will see where he was born, where he worked and where he rose to fame. We’ll aim to visit 3 great historical institutions which he knew well: The St. John’s Hospitallers gatehouse where he and his father once worked Greater St Bartholomew’s church (used in four weddings and a funeral) which was once his parish church And the one you probably haven’t seen before: the Great Hall of St Bartholomew’s hospital including its Hogarth Mural, recently restored to its former glory. We have exclusive tickets booked for this at 12.30. Afterwards we’ll go on to eat and drink in one of the great pubs of London. We meet at Farmer J, 50 Cowcross Street Londonn EC1M 6 AL at 11.15 to start walking at 11.30 Fee is £12 payable by cash or card in the day or by bank transfer or PayPal. Phone is O7846899156

CRAP Talks #32 - You Meta Believe It
CRAP Talks #32 - You Meta Believe It
For the second event of the year I'm excited to be hosting at the Meta Offices. We'll have 2 speakers and a fireside chat again. Details below with more to come closer to the time. **PLEASE NOTE:** Guests will HAVE TO SIGN UP to the event with first name and last name to be allowed into the building. If you're bringing someone with you, they'll need to register for the event as well. Registration will close 24 hours before the event. If you've not been to one of our events before then here is what you can expect. CRAP (Conversion Rate Optimisation, Analytics, Product) Talks is a cross-discipline event. We don't work in silos so why network and learn in silos. In the past we've had speakers from Data, Analytics, CRO, Product, Marketing, Data Science, Design and Research and so many more. If you work in tech, chances are you work cross-functionally, so come along and meet people doing amazing things in tech. **Hosts:** Meta **Venue:** Meta Brock, 10 Brock St, London NW1 3FG **Date:** 17/03/2026 6pm doors open Talks kick off at 630 Wrap up approximately 9:00pm. **Speakers:** * **Speaker Name:** [Tom Collingburn](https://www.linkedin.com/in/tom-collingburn-7b7b5a16a/) \| [Tom Milne](https://www.linkedin.com/in/thomas-milne-3422482b/) * **Title:** Senior Data Analyst \| Head of Experience Insights * **Talk Name:** The Measurement Dilemma: ITV's Long Term Holdout Group * **Talk Summary:** ITVX reaches more than 15 million viewers each month across web, mobile and 16 different TV applications. Our Product & Tech teams are rapidly expanding and updating the viewer experience to meet the challenges of an extremely competitive entertainment marketplace. But how do we know the cumulative impact of these Product changes is positive, in a content-driven business that is hugely influenced by competition and seasonality? In this talk we’ll show how we adopted a Long Term Holdout Group to answer this critical business question. We’ll share the technical successes, the inevitable hurdles, and the hard-won learnings we gathered along the way. * **Speaker Name:** [Igor (Iggy) Skokan](https://www.linkedin.com/in/igorskokan/) * **Title:** Director, Marketing Science, Meta * **Talk Title:** Measure What Matters with Incrementality * **Talk Summary:** Shifting consumer behaviors and the rise of formats with limited click opportunities like video have made the attribution models most advertisers rely on less effective. To capture a fuller picture of performance, advertisers must build a trusted suite of tools and methods to get closer to measuring incrementality, i.e., the true, additive value of their campaigns. This session covers how to build a practical measurement stack to estimate incrementality - the true impact of campaigns.. **Fireside Chat hosted by Parveen Downer:** * **Guest in the hot seat:** [Manasi Goel](https://www.linkedin.com/in/manasi-goel-9aba52a1/) * **Title:** Head of People & Culture at EE * **Talk Title:** Stop the Slop: Building a Real AI Builder Culture * **Talk Summary:** Most organisations are currently caught in the "AI Slop" trap: generating pages of meaningless text , chasing "10x productivity" myths , and seeing zero actual return on investment. But for product teams in mature, complex organisations (or most organisations for that matter), the real opportunity isn't about doing more work—it’s about doing better work. Join us for a candid, hype-free conversation on what it actually takes to integrate AI into the heart of a "legacy" organisation. We’re moving past the scaremongering and the "human-in-the-loop" clichés to explore how teams can "slow down to speed up". Forget the tech-bro manifestos. This is a session for those who want to build a career that is inspired, hopeful, and—most importantly—slop-free.

Introduction to Urban Sketching: Beginners Welcome
Introduction to Urban Sketching: Beginners Welcome
**What is this?** Hi there! I am launching sessions to introduce architectural drawing in London; something that I found surprisingly rare. I understand how challenging it can be to master perspective, colour, and contrast, or to translate complex visual ideas into clear drawings, and I would love helping you navigate that process. This is more than simply a group of people sitting together sketching; I will guide and design the session to help you develop real drawing skills, monitor and give personal feedback. So whether you are an architectural enthusiast, have a passion for fine art or simply want to add a new skillset in a fun and welcoming atmosphere, I will be happy to meet you! **What to know!** 1. **Exact meeting point:** Shared with confirmed participants 48 hours before the session. The session will take place either in a nearby café or an open space depending on the number of participants. 2. The session runs with a **minimum of 3 participants**. If the minimum is not reached, participants will be offered a refund or a place in the next session. 3. Material provided. (but you are free to bring your own!) 4. **Tickets have to be booked in order to get the location!** Link to tickets: [BOOK YOUR TICKET](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1985001835926?aff=oddtdtcreator) 5. Join the whatsapp Group for the event: [Whatsapp group](https://chat.whatsapp.com/LN2AOCzuh13G3ZQgeRrT3K?mode=hq1tsha) **About Me** My name is Nissam. I am an architect and illustrator in my free time. I hold an MA in Art and Visual Culture and also work as a drawing tutor. My drawings won two competitions in the UK for Earth Day 2023 and 2024, and were exhibited in King’s Cross and Angel. Teaching is one of my greatest passions. I enjoy creating a welcoming and supportive space where people feel comfortable experimenting, making mistakes, and learning along the way. In art, mistakes are often part of the process. But once you master the fundamentals, drawing becomes more intentional; and that is when the real fun begins. Let me show you my world!

Beginners' Watercolour Animals
Beginners' Watercolour Animals
A relaxed, beginner-friendly watercolour animal painting class focused on creativity, connection, and confidence **Beginner’s Watercolour Animal Painting Class** This relaxed and welcoming class is all about enjoying the process of painting animals in watercolour, whatever your experience level. It’s a gentle, step-by-step session designed especially for beginners, but equally loved by painters who’ve attended Ann’s classes before and want to build confidence, refresh skills, or simply enjoy some creative time. Expect a calm, friendly atmosphere where questions are encouraged. Painting together is as much about connection as it is about technique. There’ll be a break midway through with refreshments, giving you time to chat, share work-in-progress, and get to know others who love watercolour just as much as you do. Many students find these sessions deeply therapeutic—a chance to slow down, focus, and enjoy a few hours of creativity in good company. You’ll be guided through clear demonstrations and supported throughout, with the freedom to work at your own pace. You can follow along with the class reference during the paint-along, or bring your own animal image if you’d prefer. By the end of the session, you’ll leave with new skills, a finished painting, and (hopefully!) a few new creative friends. **What we’ll cover:** * Creating soft, believable fur effects in watercolour * Painting lively, expressive animal eyes * Drafting animals using simple shapes and easy proportions * Using special effects such as salt and “dropping in” colour to create texture * A guided paint-along demonstration * *or*: bring your own reference image and paint that during the demonstration time **About your teacher** Ann Mackowski is an award-winning watercolourist with over 15 years of teaching experience and a warm, encouraging approach that puts students instantly at ease. She exhibits internationally, including with the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolours, appeared on *Sky Landscape Artist of the Year*, and was the winner of the Espronceda 2020 residency in Spain. Ann is known for making watercolour feel accessible and enjoyable, while offering thoughtful guidance that keeps even returning students inspired and growing.

Having done martial arts for 5 years in another art, I was open to new ideas of what may come with this one. I am thrilled to say it has been fantastic. My instructor Stephen is a legend, he knows what he's talking about and has a no bs way of getting to a point. He is a lover of martial arts and it shows. His enthusiasm rubs off onto myself and the other students which creates a great learning environment. This art is marvellous, the group is a humble yet enthusiastic class of students coming to learn. I felt like I was part of the group the moment I joined. Higher belted student don't have an ego and are happy to help and train along side anyone in the class. Joining Bushin has been a tremendous experience." Konrad "Great place to learn self-defence . Coach with a passion to MMA show you how to react and defend yourself" Penny "I was completely new to martial arts so I didn't really know what I wanted to learn but I love the way they teach a mixture of martial arts and have a set syllabus. I felt like I was learning boxing, Kickboxing, jujitsu and self defence all in the same class which was great value for money!" Elizabeth "Great class for beginners and those with experience. Stephen is so welcoming and has been great at helping me find equipment and modify exercises to help with my mobility issues! Really recommend for anyone wanting to try martial arts or get fit in a friendly atmosphere :)" Lucia "I joined Bushin after a friend of mine was attacked in London and I thought it was a good idea to learn how to defend myself in case something like that happened to me as well. I didn't have any previous experience of self defense or fighting and I thought that this would hold me back, but it was definitely not the case: people in Bushin are so welcoming and nice to each other, always ready to help - it's truly a place for every level, from beginner to black belt. It's much more than a self defense class, it's real street fighting and a super good workout as well , but most importantly, it's great fun! I highly recommend it" Check out these and our other reviews for yourself!: [Club Reviews](https://maps.app.goo.gl/Gm9DV2xyYun55UqS8) And most importantly BOOK YOUR FREE TRIAL TODAY! Using Philosophy to Cope with Current Events
Using Philosophy to Cope with Current Events
So this month's prompt is more general. I think we can all agree that we are living in "unique" times that require coping skills. I think that one role and/or purpose of philosophy is to help us deal with our daily lives and our "unique" times. So, let's share our feelings and thoughts about which philosopher/philosophy we turn to in order to deal with our crazy events. Who/what helps you stay focused in your daily life and helps you sleep at night. I find that Stoicism with a little philosophical pessimism mixed in goes a long way in helping me deal with what I see as very destructive, fearful and mean spirited public policies at both the state and federal levels. Hope to see you on March 28th!
