đ HFH Book Club â First Meeting "Empire of AI" by Karen Hao
**Fellow Humans, we're starting a book club!**
We focus on understanding what's actually happening on the crowded stage of AI: the companies driving the AI race, the decisions being made on our behalf, and what it all means for the rest of us.
Every few weeks, we'll choose and read one book together and talk about it. Bring your **thoughts**, your **questions**, your **highlighted passages**, and your **honest reactions**.
**Our first pick: *Empire of AI* by Karen Hao**, who has worked for The Wall Street Journal and contributes to The Atlantic. *She argues that the pursuit of an artificial superintelligence has become its own figurative paper clip factory, devouring too much energy, minerals and human labour. She portrays OpenAI and other companies that make up the fastâgrowing A.I. sector as a âmodern-day colonial world order.â* (excerpt from the NYT review)
**What to expect:**
A relaxed, semi-structured conversation (around 2 hours).
We'll dig into the themes together, share what stood out, and connect the ideas to what we're actually experiencing.
**No expertise required, just read the book and show up curious.**
**Why a book club?** Because some things can't be captured in a headline or a 60-second video. The questions AI raises for our work, our relationships, and our futures deserve more than a scroll. They deserve a real conversation with real people, and a book gives us common ground to start from.
**After this first Meetup, you help define what's next!** Suggest books that have changed how you think about AI, technology, or what it means to be Human. This is your club.
**No tech background needed. Just curiosity and willingness to think out loud with fellow critical thinkers.**
**Join our [LinkedIn Group](https://www.linkedin.com/groups/10088542/) and [Substack](https://humanfuturehub.substack.com/)** for articles, perspectives, and resources between events.
See you there, Your HFH Team!
**Humans, together. Nobody is left behind.** â€ïž
đłđ„ŸWalk: Heathland (Heide) Dallgow-Döberitz â 16 kmđ„Ÿđ
It's a 16 km round tour from/to **train station Dallgow-Döberitz**, starting on **Saturday** at **12:40** pm (RB21 arriving at 12:37).
We'll be mostly in green areas and have a nice tour on paths that are moderately easy to walk (could be a bit sandy in parts).
*nature preservation zone: chances to see wild ancient horse breeds and deer
- in general a nice, open landscape (heathland/Heidelandschaft)
*area is a former military training grounds, landscape mostly untouched by human
Depending on the composition of the group, it should take us around **4.5 hours** for the **16 km** pure walking time. We'll be doing a few **shorter stops** (5-15 min), so no designated "lunch stop".
Komoot [Route](https://www.komoot.com/de-de/tour/1390642365?ref=&share_token=a8JZCwsAwGMoPMfwrSMvM20UIVFeibYmeXxw6tKnol64HWx513)
Please don't forget to BRING enough food, liquids and clothes, ... according to the weather forecast.
Please, please, please try to be on time. If not, please understand that I cannot make +10 people waiting idly. I can share my live location for those who are late, but for the sake of the group (and my nerves) cannot communicate much via chats after we start.
I'm not a professional guide and according to Meetup rules not liable for anyone's safety. We're all grown-ups, everyone should be able to take responsibility for themselves.
If you can't make it, please be respectful enough to update your confirmation of participation in a timely manner, to give those on the waiting list a fair chance to prepare.
Membership fees at the moment for Organizers are at 174 $ per year.
I want to avoid collecting money for the events, but maybe someone likes to support a bit with a tip to alleviate the costs.

Silent Reading / Creating Club is a gathering for people who enjoy focusing together in public.
Bring a book, a notebook, a sketchpad, knitting needles â whatever youâd like to spend a quiet hour with. All projects and all participants are welcome.
âThis year is about creating more â quietly, consistently, imperfectly â and shaping environments that support that. If youâre building something of your own, youâre especially welcome here.
âWeâre building a community of readers and creators who value depth, presence, and shared silence. The magic isnât just in the quiet hour â itâs in the people who return and make it feel like a familiar room.
â(Please RSVP âyesâ only if you can make it, so we can save a seat for you and others on the waitlist.)
âThis quiet ritual unfolds at **W66 CafĂ©**.
âThereâs no entrance fee, but please order at least one item from the cafĂ© and donât bring outside drinks đ

Mavericks Bouldering â A Casual Climb & Hangout in Berlin
A small NEXUS gathering built around movement rather than discussion alone.
This is for high-bandwidth Mavericks who spend most of their time in conceptual thought and need some physical counterweight. Why bouldering? Because itâs deliberate: short problems, full focus, and immediate feedback. Youâre on the wall, solving something tangible. The mental noise drops instantly!
Conversations happen naturally in between climbs. No pressure, you move at your own pace. Some exchanges stay light. Others go deep. Both are fine. This is not about athletic achievement. Itâs about presence, recalibration, and being around people who donât require you to shrink or translate yourself.
Come as you are. Try some bouldering problems. Rest when needed, and engage where it makes sense.
**Bring comfortable clothes and climbing shoes if you have them (rentals are available at the gym).**
*Registration equals commitment. If you sign up, you show up. Read the group description first and decide consciously. For context about NEXUS, visit our* ***[website](https://thenexusformula.com)*** *and* ***[newsletter](https://news.thenexusformula.com)****.*

Lesen. Schreiben. Teilen.

This is a 3 phase meetup. You can come at any time.
1.) 6:45 -7:00 p.m.: Gathering at the meeting spot (see gmaps link!)
2.) 7:00 - 7:30 p.m.: Walk & Talk to the Kerb food court.
3.) 7:30 - 10:00 p.m.: Immerse conversations in the Kerb food court.
đȘ: Reserved tables for the meetup.
**1.) How to the find Quartier 205 Stadtmitte:**
[https://goo.gl/maps/6Fhft3LbPhcEsQrdA](https://goo.gl/maps/6Fhft3LbPhcEsQrdA)
The exact meeting spot can be seen in the photo below!
We meet on the 1st floor where the trash sculpture can be seen. Look for a meetup sign or organizer wearing a black or red lanyard with "staff" written on it.
**2.) Walk & Talk to the Kerb food court**
The best part. This time we'll walk all the way to Checkpoint Charlie, pass the Gropius Bau and end at the former Sony Center where our final destination - the Kerb food court - is located.
**3\. How to find the Kerb food court**
[https://maps.app.goo.gl/xJTQg9oBoGL67syz7](https://maps.app.goo.gl/xJTQg9oBoGL67syz7)
Kerb is located at the former Sony Center. The new flagship food court of Potsdamer Platz. Most likely we will be sitting upstairs on the first floor next to the bar (take the stairs to the left).
***Best ways to get there:***
1\. U2 \(subway\):
Get off at Potsdamer Platz and walk around 7 min to Kerb.
2\. Bus M41 or M85
Get off at Potsdamer Platz and walk 5 min to Kerb.
*Who is this meetup for:*
1\. Internationals who want to practice German or any other language\.
2\. Germans who want to improve their language skills\.
3\. Anyone who is interested in cultural exchange and wants to socialize\.
*What you can expect:*
1\. A professionally organized meetup that can adapt to any changes given the current situation\.
2\. A Walk & Talk to break the ice\.
3\. A collaborating venue where you can further socialize with other members\.
*important:* This event is at the same time and meeting location like the "Asian Languages & Culture Exchange đæ„æŹèȘ, íê”ìŽ, æ±èŻđ„" one. So I'm basically organizing 2 events at the same time which means that you can expect way more people than on the list.
***
Whenever you attend a meetup, the most common as well as first question you get is: "Where are you from?"
You probably heard this question a million times. Well, at least I did.
From my own experience of attending over 200 international meetups in various countries such as Germany, Japan, Australia and Thailand, I can tell you that asking for the name is a better approach.
âA personâs name is to that person, the sweetest, most important sound in any language.â - Dale Carnegie
If you really want to connect with like-minded people you should remember their name, but you don't have to remember every persons name you've talked you. Be picky about that, don't be me who can somehow remember everyones name easily.
Don't tell yourself sth. like "I'm bad at remembering names." It's all about developing the habit of asking for a name and keep the conversation going on.
Furthermore, you want to learn German or any other language. Learning the local language is crucial to connect with the locals and developing a true friendship.
This can be accomplished with immersion. My goal is to inspire you to go out of your comfort zone and improve yourself each time you join this meetup.
SU&W In-person Mitte
Come along, grab a coffee, shut up, and write! We will do at least two sessions of each 45 minutes of writing and two breaks. We will start the first writing session at 11:15.
**For space reasons, we are limited to a certain number of attendees, so please update your RSVP if you can't come**. We often have a large waiting list, and not updating your RSVP or not showing up if you do RSVP yes means that others miss out. We also ask that if you do change your RSVP, do it with reasonable notice. Thanks! We typically take over all of the cafe, but try to share tables if you can to allow space for other customers.
If you are new, come and say hello, as we know that suddenly going quiet for 45 minutes and staring at that blank page can be intimidating when it's your first time. We have a lot of long-term regulars who will be happy to help you feel welcome.
In between sessions, we have a Telegram chat: https://t.me/joinchat/ERW3pxD5kfELGeWs9SUhjw

Hacking the Stack: Using OpenSearch Dashboards as an Application Framework
**Agenda:**
* 6-6:30 pm: Networking and food/drinks
* 6:30-7:15 pm: Announcements and presentation
* 7:15 pm-7:30 pm: Q&A and close-out
**Hacking the Stack: Using OpenSearch Dashboards as an Application Framework**
Most developers treat OpenSearch Dashboards (OSD) strictly as a visualization layerâa place for charts and graphs. They are missing the bigger picture. OSD is a powerful, untapped environment for full-stack application development. In this session, we peel back the architecture of **an enterprise-grade risk, compliance, and security platform built entirely *on top of* OSD**. We moved beyond simple plugins and pushed OSD to its limits to create a seamless, interactive application experience.
Join us for a deep dive into the engineering reality of the OpenSearch stack, including:
* **The Analysis:** Why the OpenSearch stack beat out the competition.
* **The Build,** **Beyond Visualization:** How to implement custom React components to build complex workflows and interactive UIs within OSD.
* **The Integrations:** Integrating Wazuh for agent management and ingesting data at scale.
* **The âGotchasâ:** Honest, real-world lessons on data handling, state management, and what to look out for.
**If you are ready to push your plugins from âreporting toolsâ to ârobust software,â do not miss this session!**
