**RSVP on the [343 Labs website](https://www.343labs.com/events/nyc-ableton-user-group-10/) to reserve your seat!**
We are excited to bring you the next in-person NYC Ableton User Group meetup! As always, the meetup is open to producers, songwriters, DJs, and musicians of all types and proficiency levels looking to exchange ideas, network, meet like-minded producers, and learn new tips and tricks from our presenters and fellow participants.
In this special topic Ableton User Group, we'll look at drum programming in Live 12 from a beginner perspective. We'll discuss the difference between making your drums with audio samples and MIDI, when to use Session view vs. Arrangement view, and how drum programming looks different for different genres.
During the event, you will also have the opportunity to see the 343 Labs facilities, meet some of their instructors, and learn about their courses.
**This month’s Ableton User Group will be hosted by John Selway.**
John Selway is one of 343’s longest-standing instructors and is considered a pillar of the 343 community, known for his wildly popular Techno Saturdays stream on 343 TV. He is considered a techno trailblazer of his time, with a career that started in his hometown, NYC, in the 90s. He is known for his contributions to the early productions of Deep Dish, his first success as part of the seminal New York underground duo Disintegrator, his long-running collaboration with Christian Smith, and his many releases on Serotonin records.

Thomas Elliott has had a 25-year career in delivering distributed software systems whose work spans early Cassandra OSS deployments in mobile core networks and modern deterministic data foundations for AI. As Head of AI and ML Systems at BioSole International, he focuses on using Cassandra to encode data dependencies that enable reproducible, auditable, and constrained AI reasoning.
Since the early days of the Cassandra Open Source project, it has been recognized as a critical component in the evolution of telecom infrastructure, particularly mobile core networks. This talk traces how early design constraints shaped architectural decisions in large-scale deployments. It is a story told across three cities in the Persian Gulf, under tight launch timelines, geopolitical complexity, and read-after-write visibility requirements that had an upper limit of 11ms.

Inspiration trap creativity workshop
6,7&8pm Issyra Gallery presents - Inspiration Trap Creativity workshop
Only 10 attendees allowed social distancing and mandatory mask wearing.
You are invited to participate in a special session of creative thinking and fresh insight dedicated to inspiration.
We live in a world of constant change that requires us to be able to continually adapt and innovate in order to succeed. Unfortunately, many of us have forgotten how to delve into our raw creativity and leave behind the rigidity of the frameworks we have progressively interiorized.
This unique workshop seeks to reclaim our inspiration and imagination, rethink the unthinkable. It is ideal for people working in the creative arts as well as students, entrepreneurs, team managers, corporate leaders and anyone looking to implement their creative vision.
Inspiration is a vital driving force in our lives that moves us to create our best work and lights the way for new, authentic ideas. How do we invite, cultivate and harness inspiration so that we are able to bring these ideas into reality?
As a self-taught artist exploring various avenues of self-expression, Issa Sow draws a distinction between the phenomenon of inspiration itself and our task of making ourselves ready for it.
In the upcoming Inspiration Trap workshop, we will imagine ways we can invite and contain our inspiration, and well as keep our mind in the open, dynamic state as a receptacle or a “canvas” to collect, reflect and grow our ideas.
Feel free to bring along a personal object, a piece of clothing or even a small piece of furniture to play with during this hands-on experiment in innovative thinking. There are surprises and new elements in each session!

Sunday Sessions at Freddy’s (Medium Speed)
The medium speed jam is back and at a new time! This jam will now run on the fourth Sunday of each month, generally from 3-5:30pm. Let’s pick up the pace!
We’ll start playing at 3:15pm, so get there a little early, grab a beer/juice/soda, order tots, and get settled!
**How it Works**
Our medium session is leveling up! Join us for a faster-paced challenge and more of a traditional session feel. We'll gather in the space, request and lead tunes, and try to string tunes together so we play more. We want this session to function as bridge between the slow jam and sessions "in the wild."
The goals of this session will be:
* Learn new tunes by ear
* Practice calling/starting the next tune while playing
* Increase our repertoire to include more sets
* Feel how tunes link together (or don't!)
* Bring our tempo closer to "dance speed"
* Increase comfort with a session atmosphere where players are asked to start sets and/or contribute
You'll still have support from our leaders, but this will be a more collaborative session than before. It's a safe space to try new things or you're welcome to just come along for the ride! We can still play some tunes slowly or break them down a bit for learning. There will be some familiar tunes and many new ones. Tunes won't always be called in advance, although we'll try to shout out the key. We'll post the tunes played in the event comments.
SUPPORT OUR VENUE
**Please be sure to support our fantastic hosts at Freddy's**, where we get a private space, by purchasing food and/or drink(s). Plus, we sound AMAZING after a couple of beers.
Meetup puts an “unpaid” flag on everyone, but please ignore it. We put out a donation basket but don’t track this by individual at all!
Please note, the temperature at Freddy's can be a bit unpredictable, so wear layers! It’s often very hot in winter and very cold in summer.
SUPPORT OUR GROUP
**We ask that attendees donate $10**, or what you are able, to support our group. We'll be putting out a donation jar and this money will support our venues, group, and fantastic jam leaders.

First Wednesdays at the Old Stone House
**Let's play some good tunes with good people!** Join us at the Old Stone House for a welcoming slow jam. We play traditional tunes at a slow to moderate pace, perfect for learning by ear and exploring your instrument. For information about the how our jam sessions work and an idea of the tunes we're playing these days, check out our website, tune list (http://brooklyntraditionalslowjam.org/tune-list/), and the comments from the last jam session (see past events in meetup).
The last half hour we will kick things up a notch and play a little faster!
At this time, masks will be optional; however, this may change if things heat up again.
**DONATIONS**
**Please consider donating $10 to support our leaders, our group, and our venues.** We'll be putting out a donation "jar" and this money will support our fantastic jam leader and provide a small donation to the Old Stone House for providing us with such a beautiful space to play in. If you are unable to contribute, you are still welcome to attend!
You can pay cash or Venmo at the jam.
Please ignore the "unpaid" flag from Meetup. Donations are requested, but we are definitely not keeping track of this on any individual basis!
**NEW MEMBERS**
If you're new to BTSJ, check out our FAQ.

**THE SPACE**
Please arrive as close to the beginning as you can. You are, of course, always welcome to arrive/leave as fits your schedule.
The location of the OSH is in Park Slope, Brooklyn. It's located in the middle of the small park between 3rd and 4th Streets and 4th and 5th Avenues. Meetup maps sometimes get messed up, so be sure you have the right location! The 4th Avenue entrance is usually the open door, but sometimes the 5th Avenue door is open.
Please note that the venue has another event which ends at 6 and the organizers have to clean up. **Please don't go into the space before 6:15**. We have moved our jam back to 6:30 to better accommodate.
You may bring food and drink into the space, just be sure to clean up after yourself. We should leave the place as we found it.
The venue regularly has art exhibits within the space. Please be aware of your surroundings and instrument(s) to ensure the safety of all artwork.
Lastly, all are welcome to join us at The Gate (on 5th Ave across from the Old Stone House) after the jam for a drink or two!
