๐ธ Early Morning Badminton
๐Hello folks, this is Manish!
Iโm trying to build a daily habit of playing badminton in the early morning, and Iโm scheduling this event for anyone who is interested in joining.
๐ธ The idea is simple โ start the day with energy, fitness, and a good game of badminton before work.
Itโs a great way to stay active, refresh your mind, and carry that energy into work and everything else you do. Imagine showing up to work already feeling accomplished, energized, and in a great mood โ thatโs what a morning like this can do for you!
๐
Thereโs something special about early mornings โ the fresh air, the quiet, and the satisfaction of doing something great for yourself before the day even begins.
Whether youโre a seasoned player or have never picked up a racket before, you are welcome here. No pressure, just good vibes, friendly competition, and a whole lot of fun.
If youโre interested, feel free to join us! All skill levels are welcome. Letโs make mornings more active and fun! ๐ช๐ธ
๐ฐ About the cost โ just $5 per person!
Thatโs less than your morning coffee, and way more rewarding. For just $5, you get a full session of fun, fitness, and great company. Itโs one of the best investments you can make in your health and your mornings. ๐
Letโs build something great together โ one morning at a time. See you on the court! ๐ธ
Midnight Martial Arts Presents: JabโCross!!!
## **Beginner Boxing Fundamentals**
Midnight Martial Arts starts at midnight โ so weโre meeting under the city lights for a late-night beginner boxing fundamentals session, under the lights of **Mel Lastman Square**.
This first, very much **weather-dependent** meetup, is a simple, non-contact deep dive into one of the most important combinations in striking: **the jabโcross**.
Whether you stand square, bladed, orthodox, southpaw, or youโre still figuring that out, weโll break down the basics together: stance, guard, footwork, rhythm, balance, distance, and how the jab and cross work across different striking styles.
### **Why Mel Lastman Square at midnight?**
Yeah, fair question. Since this is the very first event, I genuinely don't know if anyone will show up or ten. And honestly, even if I booked a world-class facility (Which would be kind of hard because most of them are closed), I'm not sure that would change the turnout for a first meetup.
So for now I'm keeping it simple, free, and low-commitment โ an open, well-lit public space where anyone who's curious can sign up and we can see if this thing has legs. If there's interest, finding a proper venue is the natural next step.
### **What this is not**
This is not sparring. This is not a fight club. This is a relaxed, beginner-friendly technique lab for night owls, martial arts nerds, and curious people who want to move, learn, and talk technique in a low-pressure environment.
### **What weโll cover**
Basic boxing stance and guard
How to throw a clean jab
How to throw a clean cross
How the jab and cross connect together
Footwork, weight shift, rhythm, and distance
Orthodox vs. southpaw basics
A few style variations and discussion points
### **Got a martial arts rabbit hole you want to explore?**
Bring it in. If thereโs a specific boxing style, technique, or idea that connects to the jabโcross, feel free to share it during the session so we can work it into the discussion.
A short video, a clear question, or a few notes can go a long way.
If itโs about another area of martial arts like grappling, kicking, clinch, or anything outside the main theme.
Thatโs welcome too, but weโll try to save those bigger side quests for the end so we can keep the main session focused.
Iโm always happy to get into the weeds about these things, but Iโm not an expert in every corner of martial arts, so a little context helps a lot; You might teach me something, and I'm here to learn too.
**Time:** 12:30 a.m. โ 2:30 a.m.
**Location:** Mel Lastman Square
**Safety and well-being are the are number one priority!!!**

Riverdale Park 5K Run / Walk / Jog
5K every week till the snows come down! Or try to!
We'll meet by the track. I'll be there early to warm up. We will start the 5K exactly at 9:30am. As mentioned in the About Us,
* Using the park track we can all go at our own pace and never really be left behind unless we all finish way ahead of you. :D I think an hour is enough time to dedicate to the run. I'm pretty slow, so you will likely have me around for most of the hour.
* Members are free to leave the run whenever they want.
* Bring your kids, your pets, your partners, etc.
* All encouraged to stick around afterwards and enjoy the park or neighbourhood on your own.
* Let's get stronger, healthier and foster a great community at the same time.
We also welcome runners who are not in our neighbourhood and want to join us spiritually and run from their own neighbourhoods. :-) Imagine how much healthier and communal the world would be if we all stopped for an hour once in a while to run together; re-centring and re-charging together?
