The New Frontier of Bitcoin Mining at PubKey DC
The New Frontier of Bitcoin Mining at PubKey DC
Bitcoin mining today looks very different from what it was a decade ago. What began largely as a hardware race has evolved into a complex global industry shaped by energy markets, infrastructure development, and new demands on data centers. Companies that adapt to this new reality don’t just survive. They position themselves to lead the next phase of the industry. 👉 [RSVP on Luma](https://luma.com/cmlndtin) In this panel, executives from publicly traded mining companies will discuss how their strategies reflect this new frontier. From hardware innovation and home mining to heat reuse, large-scale energy infrastructure, and the growing intersection with AI and high-performance computing. The conversation will explore how the industry has changed, where it is headed, and why these companies remain committed to building in Bitcoin. **Guest Speakers** * James Cheng (CFO, Canaan Inc.): A seasoned finance leader with over 20 years of experience at Fortune 500 companies, James oversees the financial strategy for a major NASDAQ-listed hardware pioneer, focusing on investor relations and debt/equity financing. * Darcy Daubaras (CFO, HIVE Digital Technologies): A strategic financial expert and Corporate Director, Darcy leads global growth for HIVE, specializing in public company regulatory reporting and the intersection of crypto mining with high-performance computing. * Elizabeth Frei Duchek (Government Relations, Bitdeer): With over 15 years of experience in government affairs and policy analysis, Elizabeth leads government relations for Bitdeer (NASDAQ: BTDR). Her background in appropriations and public policy brings a critical perspective to how regulation, infrastructure, and energy policy intersect with the future of Bitcoin mining. 👉 [RSVP on Luma](https://luma.com/cmlndtin) **About the Bitcoin District Initiative** This event was organized by The Bitcoin District Initiative, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to build a grassroots Bitcoin circular economy in Washington, DC through education, business onboarding, and community outreach programs. Profs & Pints DC: Ireland’s Fight for Freedom
Profs & Pints DC: Ireland’s Fight for Freedom
**Sales for this talk have been reopened as it has been moved to a larger space in Penn Social to accommodate demand.** [Profs and Pints DC](https://www.profsandpints.com/washingtondc) presents: **“Ireland’s Fight for Freedom,”** with Kevin Matthews, assistant professor of history at George Mason University and former London correspondent for Vatican Radio reporting on British and Irish news. [Advance tickets: $13.50 plus sales tax and processing fees. Available at [https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/dc-ireland-freedom](https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/dc-ireland-freedom) .] After centuries of struggle, Irish men and women won their freedom from Great Britain after waging a war that set the pattern for all other independence struggles of the 20th century. But there was a price—the partition of their country, a split setting the stage for the Northern Ireland “Troubles” that didn’t end until 1998. Gain a deeper understanding of Ireland and its history with Professor Kevin Matthews, a historian who served as a journalist covering the last stages of the Troubles in Ireland in the early and mid 1990s. He’ll discuss in depth how the Irish won independence in a two-year war between 1919 and 1921, covering topics as the role women played in the conflict, the life and tactics of the revolutionary leader Michael Collins, and the Irish development of “urban guerilla warfare” using small, highly mobile armed units called “flying columns.” Most important, this talk will examine how the conflict between Irish nationalists and Irish unionists led to Ireland’s division and later conflict. From the Easter Rising to the Good Friday Agreement, from Bloody Sunday to Brexit, this conflict has never quite gone away. As the Irish poet, William Butler Yeats once wrote: Now and in time to be, Wherever green is worn, Are changed, changed utterly: A terrible beauty is born. Professor Matthews will explore how the Irish fought to a standstill what was then the mightiest empire in the world and how, more than he could have known, Yeats’ prediction still rings true today. (Doors: $17, or $15 with a student ID. Listed time is for doors. The talk starts 30 minutes later.) Image: Members of the Irish Republican Army’s West Connemara Flying Column in 1921. A Dual Universe Model of Reality
A Dual Universe Model of Reality
Title: A Dual Universe Model of Reality Date: March 21 2026 Noon - 14:00 EST Summary: While Terry was not the first to create the dual-universe model — that honor goes to Jennifer Chen and Sean Carroll in 2004, with a sad special mention of William Sidis in 1925 — Terry did come up with his own version in 2007 while watching a boringly one-sided high-school football game. In this talk, Terry will describe both how he later elaborated the idea into a faster-moving and more physics-compatible version of Roger Penrose’s 2010 Conformal Cyclic Cosmology (CCC) theory. In this talk, Terry will review the history of dual universes and explain how his version leads to a novel perspective on the nature of time, mass, uncertainty, and the Standard Model. Speaker: Terry Bollinger is a computer scientist with BS, MS and professional degrees from the Missouri University of Science and Technology.
Scanning Tunneling Microscope - Lab Day - Scanning and Post Processing Images #2
Scanning Tunneling Microscope - Lab Day - Scanning and Post Processing Images #2
***Join us for an evening in an electronics lab where we will attempt to run clean scans of gold samples, and then clean up that data with post processing.*** This is a high sensitivity experiment, and we do not plan on being successful so early. But we've had promising results lately - so we will be putting in the time. We are NOT meeting at our usual location, but rather at Steve's house/lab. If you RSVP, you will get a DM with the address but it's located in Silver Spring. We will attempt full, clean lab - clean tip repeated scanning tests to see what we can learn and improve. We will experiment with online attendees, but if all possible showing up in person is strongly encouraged. Online join link is: - [https://meet.jit.si/mocomakers](https://meet.jit.si/mocomakers) Our community is building (and documenting for other teams) how to build a scanning tunneling microscope using a mix of common and 3D printed parts. This will allow us to scan and visualize a single atom - an ambitious we are doing over the course of a few months. The MoCo Makers community is one of the most innovative and competent groups in Maryland, and we've done everything from [publishing cancer research](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38136356/), to [launching products](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gotim/cozy-curvy-multi-contour-pillow), [winning grants](https://covidinfocommons.datascience.columbia.edu/awards/2014255), and inspiring thousands. Now our biggest challenge yet has appeared. We are building a Scanning Tunneling Microscope, that will allow us to scan and visualize single atoms. To get a better idea of what we are doing, see our reference project here: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7N3OqTEq08g](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7N3OqTEq08g) All starting CAD, code, and reference files should exist. However, let's be the first Maker community to document the build process and share it with learners around the world. We will be publishing our work here -[ https://hackaday.io/project/202816-qt-panda](https://hackaday.io/project/202816-qt-panda) If you need a ride, let us know.
