PhysEd Run Club - Episode 2
PhysEd Run Club is here!
The weather is getting better and it's time to get outside.
Run Club is your chance to actually learn how to run. No more stumbling down the street cursing and complaining about how much you knees hurt. You'll learn technique, how to pace, how to enjoy it (again).
Set out for a steady, endurance-focused group run built around 2.5 km loops. The target pace is 6:00 min/km, keeping things controlled but consistent from the start. The loop format makes it easy to adjust distance and effort, so you can challenge yourself while staying connected to the group.
We'll meet in front of PhysEd - Rue des Veterinaires 47, 1070.
Everything kicks off at 18:00, led by super fast dude Stefan Kikyazov.
After Episode 1, we're hyped to announce the team's chosen target - 5km or 9km at Run Forest, June 26!
If you haven't registered yet - do it now, running races sell out faster than festivals these days:
https://www.zatopekmagazine.com/run-forest/inscription-individuelle-aux-9km-de-forest/
The 1st training run is done and we measured our solid 3k effort! On the basis of our 3k time we calculated our target times for Run Forest. If you missed it - feel free to time yourself and check your target time at:

Limitations and the meaning of life - The Brussels Philosophy Meetup
We are living in an age of ever increasing intelligence and power. Individual humans haven’t really become any smarter or more powerful, but together we’ve developed systems that increase the control we exert over our environment. If we look at a country like China for example, the last 50 years have seen an undeniable and unprecedented increase in living standards, which correlates with [an increase in happiness and life satisfaction](https://ourworldindata.org/happiness-and-life-satisfaction).
Another way to look at this is that we’re constantly finding ways to overcome the limitations imposed on us by life/existence/the universe. Hungry? Just go to the supermarket! Had a bad fall? Here is surgery and some painkillers! Cold? Open your tap and warm water flows out like magic!
What if we follow this process to its conclusion? What does a world without struggle, problems or limitations look like? What would the absence of limitations do to our behavior, our values and our ethics? Would we still be human or does something get lost along the way? Is our current intelligence explosion missing a balancing wisdom explosion?
We’ll be approaching these topics by thinking creatively about the following concrete questions among others:
\- If we had a vaccine against lung cancer\, why shouldn’t we smoke?
\- If we could suck all of the CO2 out of the air\, why shouldn’t we continue using fossil fuels?
\- If antidepressants had no side effects\, why shouldn’t we all take them to deal with grief?
\- If we could breed animals \(human or nonhuman\) without pain receptors\, why shouldn’t we eat them?
\- If all human activity could be automated\, why shouldn’t we become “WALL\-E people”?
Hike Vielsalm – Stavelot – Trois Ponts (29 km)
This hike takes us through the ***heart of the Ardennes*** from Vielsalm to Trois-Ponts. We start in Vielsalm, a town known for its ***deep forests and Ardennes traditions*** and follow mostly woodland paths along the ***GR 5*** and the **Promenade du Sanglier**. In Stavelot, home to the ***impressive Abbey of Stavelot*** we join the ***GR 14 for the final stretch*** leading us through ***rolling valleys*** to our destination in Trois-Ponts.
***After our hike*** we continue our good habit of ***taking a nice beer/pancake/snack in a local pub*** in Trois Ponts before returning to Brussels.
**Please don't forget to pay Maikel a drink :-)**
We will walk at ***an average speed of 5km/h*** both on paved and unpaved roads. ***I’ve never walked this road before so it’s possible that there are some mistakes in the planning***. This means it could become longer.
***●●Meeting point***
We meet at ***08h45 in front of the Starbucks in Brussels Central***. The train ( IC507-Eupen) leaves from ***platform 3 at 09h00***. It arrives at ***09h59 in Liège-Guillemins*** where we change to train ( IC5310 - Troisvierges) leaving from ***platform 4 at 10h07***. We arrive at our ***destination Vielsalm at 11h12*** and start our hike to Trois-Ponts.

Intervals Workout Session 🏃🏻♂️🏃🏼♀️🏃🏻 Hippodrome de Boitsfort
We do cycles of 4-6 weeks, with a progressive intensity, and the last session is lighter.
Program:
15’ warm up
**To be defined**
Cool down to get back to the starting point… or more
S=All out sprint
RF = Run fast, at MAS (Maximum aerobic speed)
CF = Run comfortably fast (1h threshold)
J = Jog, recuperation
Notes:
It should take about one hour in total, as the cool down will end when we reach back to the meeting point.
It's NOT required to have an activity tracker or smart watch to be able to follow the program, as I'll be giving signals with a whistle.
For the "run" part, you can follow your own pace and we'll be regrouping in the "jog" part.
Intervals training is not advised for total beginners. To have an idea, the average pace at the warm up is around 5'45"/km-6'/km so this pace should feel very comfortable
***Acknowledgement of member responsibility and release of liability.***

Walk & Talk About Life's Big Questions
[The Board Walks](http://www.theboardwalks.com/) are for curious people who love deep conversations.
If that sounds like you, **bring a thoughtful topic** and join us for a 5-mile walk (10,000+ steps!).
**HOW IT WORKS**
**Step 1: Bring a topic**
Before you arrive, think of **one** topic you want to explore. A question. A thought that's been on your mind. An obsession you want to geek out on. This is your ticket to the event.
**Step 2: Circle up & share**
We gather in a circle. Your friendly walk host gives a speech to set the tone. Everyone shares: your name, what you're grateful for, and your topic. That's it. 60 seconds.
**Step 3: Walk, talk & float**
We walk 5 miles. You naturally drift into conversation with 2-3 people at a time, pulled by topics that spark your curiosity. When you're ready to move on, just say: "I'm going to float!"
**Step 4: Feel more alive**
Two hours flies by. You're back where you started — but you feel different. More alive. More energized. More connected to yourself and others. That's why regulars join 20+ times.
*For more details, read our [Orientation Guide.](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation)*
**HOW TO BRING A GREAT TOPIC**
A great topic = something you're genuinely curious about.
Recent topics include:
* "What are you passionate about right now?"
* "What makes a good friend?"
* "What's a belief you used to hold that you've completely changed?"
* "How do you want to be remembered?"
* "What would you do if money wasn't a factor?"
Think of your topic like the dish you're bringing to our conversational potluck. If everyone brings an A+ dish (i.e. energizing, uplifting, expansive), we'll all walk away feeling lighter and brighter.
**WHAT TO EXPECT**
This isn't a fitness event with casual chitchat. It's a walking think tank where we explore life's big questions together, beyond small talk. *If you're looking for light banter or a standard networking event, this probably isn't the right fit.*
But if you crave depth, genuine connection, and conversations that make you feel alive? You'll love it here.
**FAQ**
* Wear casual athletic attire and sneakers. It's a long walk!
* We have multiple first-timers at each event. We work hard to create a welcoming, inclusive, clique-free space.
* We welcome people of **all** ages, backgrounds, and industries who align with the [intention](https://www.theboardwalks.com/ground-rules) of this space.
* Rain or shine, we've been out here nearly every week since July 2022. If the event is cancelled, we'll let you know.
* Dogs, babies in strollers, parents, and friends are welcome — please text/email them the event link so they can RSVP and prepare a topic!
**LOGISTICS**
* If you'll arrive over 10 minutes late, we suggest skipping the event. It's hard to find us once we start walking, and your host can't answer messages during the event.
* This walk is designed for everyone to *move together at the same steady pace* (about 20 min/mile). This format works best when the whole group moves in unison. If you have mobility limitations, we kindly encourage you to find an event better suited to your needs.
* Read our [Orientation Guide](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation) for full details.
* If you enjoy the event, send **[this](http://www.theboardwalks.com/)** to a friend or sign up for our **[newsletter](https://theboardwalks.beehiiv.com/)**. We're in multiple cities with more on the way. 🤠👋

Two For Tuesday : Social walk and Duckpin (option)
**Not everyone will come. That is exactly why you should.**
**Two for Tuesdays** is for the people who actually want to get out and do something instead of just talking about it. We’re kicking off the night with a one-hour social walk before Duckpin Social.
**Expect a laid-back** But an Intentional 1 hour walk (2-3 miles), good people, and a better way to spend your Tuesday than staying home and doing the same thing you always do.
**If the weather does not cooperate, we’ll move indoors.**
**This is a paid event.** A small contribution helps keeps events sustainable and ensures those **who RSVP actually show up.**
Payment **Link Found in comments** or you can pay on Venmo, Paypal, @WiseUnlimitedLLC or Cashapp $WiseUnlimitedLLC.
Walk RSVP **$2**
Walk / DuckPin Social **$5**
Walk / DuckPin Social + 1 game of duckpin **$12**

Mindful Photography Walk – A Gentle Pause in Nature
Join me for a small, mindful photography walk in nature. (**NOTE Time is 9:00 AM EST(Meetup is having technical Issue))**
This is a slow, intentional gathering — not focused on fitness or perfect photography — but on simply pausing, observing, and being present.
We’ll walk at a gentle pace, with moments of quiet, and a few light prompts to help you notice details you might normally miss.
📷 You don’t need any photography experience — a phone camera is enough.
This is also not a business networking event. It’s a calm space to connect with nature and, if it feels natural, with like-minded people.
🌿 What to expect:
• A slow-paced, relaxed walk
• Moments of silence and observation
• Simple reflection prompts
📍 Location: [ Red Trabue Nature Preserve]
⏱ Duration: \~60 minutes
This is a small, initial gathering as I begin creating this space through WellGratiVibes — a blend of mindfulness, nature, and quiet connection.
If this resonates with you, you’re welcome to join.
