Photography Workshop
Shooting only in Auto or Program mode is a thing of the past. We will learn when it makes sense to use Manual (M), Shutter Priority (TV), or Aperture Priority (AV) modes to create artistic compositions under a wide variety of conditions. This workshop is designed for beginners as well as photographers who want to dive deeper into their camera settings, lenses, and the many features their gear has to offer. **Part 1: Getting Started (2h)** * **Full Control:** Mastering Manual (M) mode. * **The Essentials:** Understanding Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO, and how they shape your image. * **Semi-Auto Modes:** When and why to use AV or TV modes. * **Focus:** An insight into various autofocus options. **Part 2: Lenses & Perspective (2h)** Unlike prime lenses, telephoto lenses offer more flexibility without having to move—but they also come with specific challenges. We will explore the pros and cons of different lenses and learn which glass is best suited for which purpose. **Part 3: Practical Application (2h)** Putting theory into practice outdoors, followed by a final Q&A session. **Course Hours:** The course runs from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. **Registration:** Please register by **May 24, 2026**, via email at admin@michaelcalabro.com. Some will go less (especially those walking or walk/running), and some over-achieving fast runners will go further. • The '*Hare*', which changes each event (along with location), cleverly lays the trail (typically with flour marks) so that everyone reaches the end at the same time. • There is always a place to deposit your bag and sometimes a place to change. • **After Trail**, we group for \~20-40 minutes for drinks, snacks, and some fun. This '*Circle*' is typically outside, so leave something warm in your bag in winter (and bring a flashlight when it's dark). If you don't want to stand around drinking afterwards, you can head home. **Photo Laundry is an exhibition made up of images from its visitors.** We offer photographers the chance to showcase their work on a laundry line under the open sky. No matter your age or experience level, you can bring up to **five photos** per featured topic (Exception: Photo Laundry Challenge) and hang them on the lines. I'm really excited to announce our next Meet Up event. It will take place at Core studio in Rennweg Rennweg 12, 8001 Zurich. Designed to strengthen, release and stretch muscle tensions, conditioning your body by increasing your range of motion and flexibility as well as overcoming back pain; improving your posture and circulation so you can exercise more efficiently, whilst keeping your body injury free. The class is structured as a workout & stretch combination. Open to all levels. You will need to bring a smile, some water and wear comfortable exercise cloths. The class will be 60 minutes which should be more than enough to get those muscles warmed up and you posturised ready for the next session. Whether you’re brand new to yoga or a long time practitioner, this class is designed to help you slow down, stretch, breathe, and reconnect with yourself. Expect a relaxed, accessible flow focused on easing tension, moving mindfully, and leaving you feeling a little more grounded. All levels welcome! Bring water and a yoga mat (or towel if you don’t have a mat). A suggested donation of $10 is appreciated, but payment is absolutely not required to attend and enjoy class. However, if you bring your camera we can test it for compatibility with the studio lights.* Bondage elements can add an extra layer of emotion and artistry to your images. Sample images on the internet are however dominated by BDSM style shots that are often sexualized and emphasize the model being in distress. In this demonstration Rachel and I show ways to use bondage elements in an artistic way. We explore the types of accessories that work best in artistic images and the best way to photograph them. Our model is Rachel Adams, an internationally known fetish model with many years of experience in this genre.
