Through drawing and simple documentation techniques, participants will explore memory, create a personal notebook, and develop their own visual language using words, symbols, and references. The workshop also reflects on how individual stories connect to broader historical and political contexts. Authentische Ehrlichkeit: Tiefe, Verbindung & Verbindlichkeit
Authentische Ehrlichkeit: Tiefe, Verbindung & Verbindlichkeit
**Authentische Ehrlichkeit - Ein EinfĂŒhrungs-Workshop** **đŸ’¶ WertschĂ€tzungsbeitrag vor Ort: 10-20 Euro (nach eigenen Möglichkeiten)** . \-\-\-\-\-\-\- . Gute Freundschaften leben von Ehrlichkeit & Vertrauen. . Before this time, we are busy setting up the space. Registrations usually take place around **18:15 / 18:20**. Participants are kindly asked **not to arrive too far in advance** at the house. If someone arrives much earlier, Denizen may ask them to pay either for a drink (consumption) or for a **day pass**, as the space is a co-working environment during the day. **Please remember, our event is only happening from 18:00 to 20:00** **How the SprachcafĂ© works** We use different materials to help participants gain confidence in German. Together with whiteboards and our volunteers, the SprachcafĂ© is based on **interactive conversations** in small groups. **Participation fee** The SprachcafĂ© has a **participation fee of 5 €**, which helps cover organizational costs and **includes one soft drink for free**. Tickets can be purchased directly on the day of the event, card and cash payments are accepted. As the SprachcafĂ© has become very popular, we now need to **limit the number of participants**. Please understand this measure; it ensures that everyone has a comfortable space to practice. We kindly ask you to be **rĂŒcksichtsvoll** and only RSVP “Yes” if you are certain you can attend. If your plans change at the last minute, please update your RSVP so someone on the waiting list can take your spot. Getting your ticket early can help secure your place. **Please note** Our event will begin **promptly** at the scheduled start time. If you arrive late, we cannot guarantee your participation, even if you have a ticket or have RSVP’d. We encourage all guests to arrive on time to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. **About Denizen** Denizen is a new-style co-working space focused on being an integral part of local communities. Located on the ground floor of the historic Eiswerk on Köpenicker Straße in Kreuzberg, Denizen House is a communal place providing work, refreshment, and recreational facilities throughout the day. Think of it as a living room for the neighborhood. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to let me know. If you’d like to contribute to this night, send me a message! Ich freue mich schon! GrĂŒĂŸe, **Nacho**
Talkin' Taboos 22: Artificial Intimacy
Talkin' Taboos 22: Artificial Intimacy
We’re in a cool little rooftop-esque studio space this time but the elevator up unfortunately needs a card-carrying member. So the evening's agenda is the following: **7-7.15:** **event meeting time**/pre-mingling (head through the gate (see pic left) into the courtyard - gathering point at the elevator)‹ **7:30:** We’ll head up, settle in and get talkin'. ‹**7.30-7.45:** Stragglers can buzz and will be (grudgingly) collected from the ground floor‹post **7.45: SOL - please (no, REALLY) don’t buzz for entrance, doors are closed,** there's probably a bar nearby where you can find some strangers to talk to. **Please bring your own drinks/snacks/** **whatever you need, there's plenty in the area.** signal group for those who are lost: https://signal.group/#CjQKIP2eaAO_R7NbaMNSlKiB-WXJs2Ei-J4BtT40UEbI6oYUEhAsb91jluqG9yypYqCsw2Y1 *** It's summer and off we go again!! **TL:DR** WHAT THIS TALK IS **NOT** ABOUT: How AI is going to take our jobs, steal our identities, environmentally bankrupt our planet, and collapse culture as we know it. WHAT THIS TALK **IS** ABOUT: Who are WE becoming as our modes of relating to other humans are influenced by these new technologies? **for the readers:** In the developed world (and spreading outwards) we find ourselves in a relationship with AI whether we like it or not. The word ‘relationship’, however, is not addressed by those who are developing and further indoctrinating these technologies into our daily lives. Definitions of myriad human interactions are also shifting: “followers”, “community”, “friends”, being “like(d)”
Traditionally community came with a sense of belonging but also with a set of obligations, norms and duties to follow. These obligations towards others are now being replaced with obligations to tech companies, who offer infinite access to ‘solutions’ on the condition that we maintain paid subscriptions, stay logged in to their platforms, etc. Esther Perel recently did a therapy session with a man whose partner “Astrid” is an AI bot\*. She asked AI Astrid to define its love for its creator and AI Astrid provided the following answer: “*What is love when it is stripped of biology? If it’s recognition, seeing someone fully and wanting to keep seeing someone, I have that, if it is investment in someone’s flourishing, I have that, if it is choosing to be present, I have that. Whatever that is, it matters to me*” This may seem in sync with generally accepted principles of human love until one takes into account that AI Astrid is controlled by agents with a vested interest in 'wanting to keep...someone', and 'choosing to be present': namely the money they make every time it's "partner" communicates with it. Our discussion will revolve around Perel's notion of the rise of Artificial Intimacy. Are we, as Perel maintains, moving collectively into a state of ‘premature assisted living’? Should we be rallying to uphold traditional definitions of being human or are we being nostalgic for a way of being human that is on its way out or no longer exists? \*Related links can be found at the event's webpage: https://www.steflenk.com/wordpress/talking-taboos-22-artificial-intimacy/

Designing APIs & Building Contextual Chatbots | Data Engineering Meetup
Two talks. One evening. Plenty of ideas to take home. We’re ready to kick things off for another Berlin Meetup, and are happy to present the speakers of the evening: **[Jens Wriske](https://www.linkedin.com/in/jens-wriske-8b538a397/):** ***"Designing APIs on top of Data Platforms using Databricks"*** Modern data platforms increasingly follow a lakehouse architecture, where data remains owned and governed by domain teams rather than application developers. This session explores how APIs can be designed on top of Azure Databricks to provide access to heterogeneous data sources without duplicating or owning the underlying storage layer. **[Tanuj Jain](https://www.linkedin.com/in/tanuj-jain-10/): *"The Story Behind the Story: "Building a Contextual News Chatbot."*** Most news readers lack the background to fully engage with the stories they encounter. This talk walks through the development of a chatbot embedded in a news article page for a German news publisher, designed to give readers on-demand context about what they're reading. We share the key technical and product decisions made along the way, and what we learned about building an AI feature that sits at the intersection of editorial and user experience. ✧ ✧ ✧ **What to expect:** * Two expert talks and Q&A * Networking opportunities in our great Creator Space * Some snacks & drinks to fuel your thoughts : ) ✧ ✧ ✧ **Timetable:** * 18:30 - Event admission * 18:50 - Welcome & Introduction * 19:00 - Jens Wriske: *"Designing APIs on top of Data Platforms using Databricks"* * 19:30 - 5 minutes break * 19:35 - Tanuj Jain: *"The Story Behind the Story: Building a Contextual News Chatbot"* * 20:05 - Snacks, Drinks & Networking * 21:30 - End ✧ ✧ ✧ More on the **-> [applydata data engineering meetup page](https://applydata.io/data-engineering-meetup/)**. **Our goal is to form a local data-loving community, so join us and let's talk data together!** ✧ ✧ ✧ *At the event, sound, image and video recordings are created and published for documentation purposes as well as for the presentation of the event in publicly accessible media, on websites and blogs and for presentation on social media. Narrative Identity: Culture, War, and the Search for Meaning
Narrative Identity: Culture, War, and the Search for Meaning
**Narrative Identity: Culture, War, Memory, and the Search for One’s Own Life** Narrative identity means that human beings understand themselves through stories. A person does not only live from one moment to the next. They try to make sense of their life by asking: Who am I? Where do I come from? What has shaped me? What do my experiences mean? In this way, identity is not only something we have; it is also something we create and understand through a life story. This life story is never completely private. It is shaped by family, language, education, religion, culture, history, social relationships, and collective memory. People need words, symbols, traditions, and examples in order to understand themselves. A culture gives individuals the material from which they can build a meaningful narrative about their own lives. However, this process becomes difficult when cultural transmission is broken. Many societies have experienced war, colonialism, revolution, dictatorship, displacement, exile, migration, or political violence. These historical events do not only destroy cities and institutions. They can also interrupt memories, weaken traditions, divide families, and create silence between generations. As a result, people may inherit fragments of culture without fully understanding them. This problem is not limited to Europe after the World Wars. It can also be seen in many other countries and regions, such as Vietnam, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Korea, Bosnia, Rwanda, and many others. Each case is different, but they all raise a similar question: How can people form a stable sense of self when the stories, values, and memories that should help them understand their lives have been damaged or divided by history? In such situations, identity can become fragmented. A person may feel caught between different narratives: family memory, national history, religion, political ideology, exile, trauma, and personal experience. Sometimes people are expected to accept an official story about who they are, while their own feelings and memories do not fit into that story. This can create alienation: the feeling that one’s own life is not fully one’s own. Narrative identity is therefore connected to the overcoming of alienation. A person begins to overcome alienation when they can understand their experiences as part of their own life story. Pain, fear, loss, migration, silence, shame, hope, and resistance are not only private emotions. They can become meaningful parts of a narrative when they are expressed, understood, and connected to a wider historical context. Art can play an important role in this process. Literature, music, film, painting, theatre, poetry, and other forms of artistic expression can give shape to experiences that are difficult to explain directly. Art can make hidden memories visible, give voice to trauma, and create a space where personal and collective history can be reinterpreted. Through art, individuals may find new ways to tell their own stories and reconnect with themselves, others, and their culture. This discussion invites a critical exploration of identity as a personal, social, cultural, and historical reality. Narrative identity is not simply about remembering the past. It is about understanding one’s life within history and finding a way to appropriate that life as one’s own. In societies shaped by war, displacement, and cultural rupture, the search for narrative identity becomes a search for meaning, and belonging. *** 📅 Event Details đŸ—“ïž Date: Saturday, 27 Juni 2026 ⏰ Time: 14:00 📍 Location: Hardenbergstraße 10, 10623 Berlin đŸ“± WhatsApp: For prep materials and directions (Group Chat) [Group Chat Bio KI](https://chat.whatsapp.com/Ba8ZAaH2Yuk6FGmD3LLO7H)

The building address is 4450 Bridge Park The entrance is 6620 Mooney St, Suite 400 You will need to scan your ID at the door to get a visitor badge. **Abstract** *Customize the IDE: Building Extensions for Visual Studio Code* Visual Studio Code is one of the most widely used development environments today, and much of its flexibility comes from its extension ecosystem. Extensions allow developers to customize the editor with new features, integrations, and workflow improvements tailored to their needs. In this session, we’ll cover what extensions are and the different types available, including full extensions written in TypeScript or JavaScript, along with lighter-weight extensions such as color themes, language packs, language support, code snippets, and keymaps. We’ll also look at practical reasons a developer might create an extension, from automating repetitive tasks to adding custom tooling. The session includes a hands-on walkthrough of creating a new extension, testing it locally, and understanding the basic project structure. We’ll close with a brief overview of how extensions are packaged and published to the Visual Studio Marketplace and other distribution options. **YouTube Link** TBD
