The goal of this class is to help musicians find new and cool repertoire that gets played around the DMV oldtime music scene. SMT Teacher, Jonathan Vocke, has been an active member of the community for the last 15 years and is a skilled educator, multi-instrumentalist, and performer. In each class we will cover 2-3 new tunes. Tunes will be taught using the aural method and chords and rhythmic nuance of each tune will also be discussed. We will listen to source recordings of the tunes and discuss chording, bowing and general rhythmic accompaniment. Samba gives a great cardio work out and introduces to Brazilian culture. Join the fun staff of Vava United School of Samba instructors for a samba experience. 8:00pm class is for absolut beginners to dancers looking to sharpen technique. 9:00pm is for experienced sambistas that want to heighten their stamina, learn Combinations and love the samba rhythms. A favorite of the DMV's swing dance community, the Rock-A-Sonics play a mix of Rockabilly, 50's rock and country, and Western swing. Frontman Willie Barry's pure tenor is accompanied by a group of very talented musicians. Tommy Joe's in downtown Bethesda occupies the second and third floor of corner building. Bands play the second floor and there's no cover. It's easily accessible by metro or car (I use parking garage 36 Auburn- Del Ray).
