Film Narrative Engagement & Feelings of Human Connection
Film Narrative Engagement & Feelings of Human Connection
This is one of the day/time slots available for this same event. There are several others on weekend afternoons/early evenings and a few weeknights this month in July that will also be posted for the Group. The following information is the same for each of the day/time posting for this ongoing event: **Anyone 18+ is welcome to join - there are no fees to join or sign-up for an event.** **Important:** Because this is a part of an **ethically-approved research study by Goldsmiths, University of London** is required to follow research ethical standard procedure - **you'll need to click on the link provided below this message or the QR code** **in this event's image** in this posting and confirm your voluntary and informed consent (with an official Participant Information Sheet PDF for your viewing/reference) and complete your booking. Below is an overview of key information you'll need (the advert provided here is also a good quick reference): We are exploring how watching a feature-length film impacts our sense of social connection with others within the contexts of own lives. **What you get:** A **free screening** of an award-winning British social-realist drama (\~1hr 45min) inside a **real on-campus (Goldsmiths) cinema** with comfortable seats and surround sound. (Bring your own snacks!) **What to Expect:** Participants will enjoy a free screening of an award-winning British social-realist drama in a professional on-campus cinema featuring surround sound and comfortable seating. (More details below). You are welcome to bring your own snacks/drinks, but please do not bring alcohol. **What is required:** You must be over 18 (excluding Goldsmiths academic staff), complete two short surveys (\~15 mins total), and turn up on time. **Feel free to make it a different kind of social outing and share/invite friend(s) - Each person must scan and register separately.** **Eligibility and Requirements:** * Must be over 18 (Goldsmiths academic staff are ineligible). * Must not have previously seen the film *The Old Oak* (2023). * Participants must agree not to look up the film prior to the screening to preserve research integrity. * What I can tell you is that it’s a British social-realist drama - the kind that follows ordinary people's lives. It's a fictional feature film with serious, real-world social themes (hardship, community, and conflict). * It had 8 wins and 7 nominations in total including 1 BAFTA nomination. * Please bring your mobile device to complete the two short surveys (approximately 15 minutes total). * Both surveys are low effort and not strenuous (e.g. on your judgement of feelings/opinions) **Cinema Code of Conduct:** * This is a safe and inclusive space with staffed University Security members on-campus and in the building where the cinema is located. * Regular cinema social etiquette is followed like normal (e.g., respectful of others, turn off your mobile during the film, etc.) **Total Event Schedule:** We have several upcoming sessions available. Please note that capacity is strictly limited to 70 participants per showing on a first-come, first-served basis: * Thursday (**July 23**): 3:30 PM – 6:00 PM * Fridays (**July 3, 17, 24**): 5:00 PM – 7:30 PM * Saturdays (**July 4, 18, 25**): 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM * Sundays (**July 5, 19, 26**): 11:30 AM – 2:00 PM **Agenda:** * 15 minutes - Arrivals & Introductions * 2-5 minutes - Quick one question survey before the film * 1hr45 - Film (minus the credits) * up to 15 minutes - 2nd survey (you make take as little or more time as needed) * 10 minutes wrap-up - You'll be provided with a Participant Debrief. * **You’re welcome to go to the nearest pub to continue socialising!** **Scan the QR code in this event's advert or visit this link to sign-up:** [https://goldpsych.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cwfV9Cpt2qmpfRI](https://goldpsych.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cwfV9Cpt2qmpfRI) I look forward to seeing you there! Wine Not? (Women Only)
Wine Not? (Women Only)
Wine Not? is a women-only gathering before the Balancers Saturday social. Most attendees come solo, so it’s an easy and welcoming place to meet people and settle in before the night gets busier. London can make meeting new people feel awkward, especially if you're coming alone. This early social creates a comfortable environment where you can chat, laugh, and get to know a few friendly faces first. Expect a relaxed atmosphere, a few light games, and plenty of time to connect naturally. **At 7.30 pm the main Balancers social begins**, and the room fills as over **150 people usually join the night**. Wine Not? naturally flows into the rest of the evening, so you’re welcome to stay and enjoy the full experience. Coming solo is completely normal. Our hosts will be there to help everyone feel comfortable, included, and connected from the start. **Check out our past events here:** **[https://www.instagram.com/_balancers/](https://www.instagram.com/_balancers/)** **Want to stay in the loop? Sunday 5th July 🥐🏃‍♀️ THE 5-STOP GIRLY BAKERY RUN & PICNIC 🏃‍♀️🥐
Sunday 5th July 🥐🏃‍♀️ THE 5-STOP GIRLY BAKERY RUN & PICNIC 🏃‍♀️🥐
Let’s be real... the only thing better than a Sunday morning run is a Sunday morning run that involves **FIVE** different bakeries, immaculate vibes, and a park picnic with the girls. Welcome to the Girly Bakery Run - not your average run club, but a rolling 5k pastry crawl through central London! Whether you run every day, haven't run since school, or literally just want to walk and eat baked goods (same), you need to be here. This is the ultimate, low-pressure Sunday morning. Think: beautiful London streets, securing the bag(s) at five iconic spots, and ending with a huge community picnic in the park to sip our coffees, debrief, and eat our body weight in butter. ### 🎀 The Setup We’ve escalated this to a 5-stop tour because we simply couldn't narrow it down. We've got the route, the timings, and the picnic spot completely sorted so you can just rock up and vibe. * **The Route:** We’re doing a \~5k loop hitting up **Chestnut Bakery**, **Ole & Steen**, **Cöödie**, plus **two surprise stops** along the way (& moreeee!). We will be ending the route at our final stop to grab iced coffees/matchas before heading to the park. * **What’s included:** Your ticket is a tiny cover charge to help us host the event, map out this epic 5-stop route, run the community, and set up our post-run picnic spot! * **The Strategy:** Sharing is HIGHLY recommended! The best way to survive a 5-stop pastry crawl is to split treats with your new besties so you get to taste a little bit of everything without crashing before the park. * **What to bring:** * **The Cargo:** Bring a small backpack, tote, or cross-body bag to safely stash your pastries as we move! * **The Funds:** Everyone will be buying their own treats and final coffees, so have your Apple Pay ready. (You can obviously eat a little as we go, hehe, but the ultimate goal is to build a massive stash for the park!) ### 📍 The Details * **When:** Sunday 5th July, meeting at 10:00 AM sharp. * **Start Line:** Bond Street Station (Elizabeth Line). * **The Paces:** Choose your own adventure! We’ll be splitting into two groups, and **we will have a dedicated leader for both**, so absolutely no one gets left behind: * 🏃‍♀️ **The Slow Run Group:** A super easy, chatty, sexy pace. * 🚶‍♀️ **The Walking Group:** A gorgeous, leisurely stroll between bakeries. * *(Note: We are leaving lots of time for the movement, queuing at 5 different stops, and getting to know each other. This is a rough itinerary, so if things shift on the day, we just roll with it!)* * **Dietary Requirements:** Please note that we’ll be visiting standard bakeries. While many will offer vegetarian and vegan options, if you have strict dietary requirements or severe allergies (like gluten, dairy, or nuts), please double-check with the staff at each location before purchasing! * **The Finish Line:** After our fifth and final coffee/bakery stop, the movement part is *done*. We'll walk together to a nearby park, lay out the blankets, and feast on everything we’ve gathered! ### 🎟️ Tickets * **Bakery Run & Picnic Ticket:** £6.00 **Lace up your favourite running or walking shoes, grab your pastry-carrying backpack, and come spend Sunday morning with the best girls in London! 🥐☕️👟✨**

Hi everyone! We're Jared and Petria Walker, local real estate investors based in Columbus, Ohio, with a passion for short-term rentals and hospitality. Whether you're just getting started or have years of experience, we'd love to connect, collaborate, and grow together. We believe some of the best opportunities begin with great conversations. See you soon!
Wine Tasting - Newcomers Night
Wine Tasting - Newcomers Night
This is "***New Members Night***." If you are one of the many folks on the fence about coming to your first wine tasting with the *Hilliard Wine Club*, this is the night to come. There will be many other new people, so you won't be alone. And the regulars will be there to help make you feel welcome. We're a relaxed and warm group. We hope to see you. **New Venue:** After more than a year on Norwich Street in Old Hilliard we have found a new home at The District's Club House. It's about 3 miles from the former location but is brighter and more spacious. See photos and map. **SIDE NOTE:** New members are welcome to ALL our Friday night wine tastings, but this night is a special overture to those who don't want to feel that they are the only new person in the room. Don't worry. You won't be. And don't hesitate to RSVP to other events. **OLD MEMBERS NOTE**: Hey Old Members! You're not excluded from this event. We expect to see you there to help make the new members feel welcome. **Sample 4 different wines** this Friday for $15 (*Cash or Venmo only please*). Glasses are provided. Bring a snack to share. Bring a bottle to share if you care to. See all the details below for the Hilliard Wine Club Wine Tasting. In Person. In Real Life. Actual Wine from glass bottles with corks and everything. **Wine**: Tastings will be $15 for four samples as always. And you are welcome to bring a bottle of your favorite wine to share with others. Participation in the wine tastings is optional. But since you’re going, I will buy enough wine to cover you. If you bring your own wine and do not participate in the tasting you will only pay $10 to cover the door charge. **Parking**: There are 15 visitor spaces along the North curve if you make a right hand turn after the first stop sign when you are facing the clubhouse. If all of those spaces are taken, there are 30 more visitor spaces across the back of the community (westerb edge) where the concrete wall separates the world from I-270. It's only about a 100 yard walk back to the clubhouse from there. **Glasses**: …will be provided. Please note that after the wine tasting, the glasses need to be returned to the boxes at the service table. Please be gentle, our glasses are fragile. Uh, they are made of glass! **Food**: You are welcome to bring a snack to share. It is not required. Most people do though. If no one brings anything, there will be nothing. **Code of Conduct**: Though mostly understood, it’s still worth mentioning. We don’t have rules per se, but we highly discourage the following topics of discussion because they are likely to incite anti-social responses - Sex, Politics, Religion. Please don’t mistake this as an attempt to limit your free speech rights but rather a guide to a place and time for appropriate discussions. **Extra Wine**: After everyone has had their samples, we remove the pouring spouts and any remaining wine is poured freely to whomever wants it. I hate having leftover wine. **Queen of Hearts**: The Queen of Hearts raffle is a fundraiser for the club and a Barnum and Bailey type extravaganza - minus the dancing ponies, clowns, and actual circus. Bring your ***cash*** as the Queen does not accept American Express or other plastic. Again, We look forward to meeting new members and reuniting with old friends. Sincerely, ***Paul Uttermohlen***, **Red 1 Realty** *Your Hilliard Wine Club Host*
