Rust at MWC Talent Arena — Workshops + Community Meetup
We’re thrilled to announce a special edition of BcnRust taking place inside the **Talent Arena at Mobile World Congress 2026**, thanks to the collaboration between the **[Rust Foundation](https://rustfoundation.org)** and **[Mobile World Capital Barcelona](https://mobileworldcapital.com/)**.
This unique event brings together hands‑on workshops, a community meetup, and exclusive access for Rust developers across Spain — including our friends from **[MadRust](https://www.meetup.com/es-es/madrust/)**, represented by our meetup speaker **[Jorge Ortiz](https://www.linkedin.com/in/jorgeortiz/)**.
**📅 Schedule — Wednesday, March 4th**
**Workshop 1 — General Access**
9:30h – 10:45h
**When Floats Lie:** *Performance, and why Rust keeps AI from corroding* **Speaker:** [Lawrence Freeman](https://www.linkedin.com/in/thedatachef/)
"Floating-point numbers are prone to subtle failure modes that erode performance and correctness. We will build a small quantization framework in Rust, evolving step by step as we move from numeric fundamentals to Post-Training Quantization (PTQ) for AI inference. You’ll learn how quantization works at the bit level, and why Rust is becoming critical infrastructure for high-performance, resource-constrained, AI-driven systems."
This session is free to attend. Simply register at: 👉 [https://talentarena.tech](https://talentarena.tech)
**Community Meetup — XPRO Access**
13:30h – 14:30h (extended until 14:50 if needed)
**Make Rusty AI**
*Building an agent from scratch using Rust and open‑source tools* **Speaker:** [Jorge Ortiz](https://www.linkedin.com/in/jorgeortiz/) (MadRust)
"Artificial intelligence has infiltrated nearly every aspect of our lives. Assistants are now capable of performing tasks that were once science fiction, and we’ve started integrating them into our daily routines. But do you fully understand the concepts at play? Can you distinguish between a chatbot and an agent? Could you write your own AI tools? In this talk, we’ll build an agent from scratch using Rust and open-source tools. While the session will involve live-coding, the focus will be on understanding the core concepts and applications of artificial intelligence. It’s an opportunity to explore how emerging technologies are reshaping the way we interact with computing—and how you can contribute to this revolution."
Join us for a deep dive into practical Rust‑powered AI, followed by community discussion and networking with Rustaceans from Barcelona, Madrid, and beyond.
**Workshop 2 — XPRO Access**
16:45h – 18:00h
**From fRusTrait‑ion to Async Mastery**: *Become a Rust Trait Hero in 90 minutes*
**Speaker:** [Lawrence Freeman](https://www.linkedin.com/in/thedatachef/)
**🎟️ About the XPRO Passes**

ENGLISH! WEDNESDAY / The Central House - Philosophy Meetup: 19:30h - 21h
Hi and welcome to our next Socrates Café philosophy meetup!
Do you have a hunger for deeper understanding of yourself and the world? Do you value deep, honest and respectful dialogue?
If yes, then this meetup will be very interesting for you.
• WHAT IS A MEETUP ABOUT?
At every meetup we have a discussion using Socratic method:
We ask, answer and discuss questions and ideas to stimulate critical thinking and to widen our perspectives with new concepts and thoughts.
The main purpose of these meetups is to enrich ourselves with the perspectives of others, not to convince others about our own perspectives.
Our meetups are about our own philosophies of life and not necessarily what the great philosophers and academics have said or written. It is not a debating club or a platform for proselytizing. Instead, we place the emphasis on questioning, open mindedness and challenging our own assumptions while listening to and respecting the views shared by others.
A Socrates Café meetup is considered a success when participants leave a discussion with many more questions than they had at the beginning.
• WHAT TOPIC IS DISCUSSED AT THE MEETUP?
Participants suggest topics at the beginning of each meeting. We then vote and choose that event's most popular topic for discussion. No academic training in philosophy necessary; just enthusiasm for exchanging ideas and points of view.
Some examples of subjects chosen on previous meetups:
* What ideals are worth dying for?
* Why are we never satisfied?
* Why is it that human beings know that the society is going wrong, leaders are well informed about it and things continue as is?
* Is identity necessary?
* How can it be that people in democratic societies are so obsessed with power? (Desire to be different, better, stronger than others)
* What is friendship?
• WHO PARTICIPATES AT THIS MEETUP?
Anybody is more than welcome to join our meetups. Our events gather people from different backgrounds, different cultures, while no philosophical background is mandatory.
Our usual participants are people that have a hunger for deeper understanding of themselves and the world. People that value deep, honest and respectful dialogue.
The inspiration for Socrates Cafe originates with the book of the same name, written by the philosopher Christopher Phillips. (Socrates Cafe: A Fresh Taste of Philosophy, 2002). Phillips felt that the Socratic method of dialogue and discussion should be practiced not just in academic settings, but among everyday people interested in examining deep questions together. Hundreds of Socrates Cafe groups now exist around the world. Mandala drawing workshop: a journey into body, art & presence 🫀
This workshop is an invitation to slow down, listen, and express yourself through art.
We will begin with a short Buddhist-inspired meditation 🧘♀️, followed by an introduction to mandalas ⭕️ — what they are, their symbolic meaning, and how drawing a mandala can support self-awareness and emotional exploration.
Through gentle body-based activities 🤍, we will move, release tension, and awaken creativity.
Then, you will have time to draw your own mandala freely and intuitively 🎨✨ — using colors and shapes to express emotions, sensations, and inner landscapes.
🎯 No drawing skills needed
🤍 This is not about technique, but about presence, listening, and self-expression
🧑🏫 The workshop will be facilitated by Laura, a Buddhist practitioner with a background in neuroscience and psychosomatics, who integrates meditation, body awareness, and creative practices into her work.
🌍 The event will be held in English
✨ Welcome as YOU are
💶 Cost: 15€

Hablar es mejor (Clase de conversación y errores en español)
Buenas!
(English below)
Vente y hablamos.
Rafa.
\-\-\-\-
Hi!
Every day there are new ways to learn Spanish, (or any language) new apps, grammar methods, AI, teachers explaining things on videos, and they are all great.
If they help you to understand more and to speak better, they are great.
The main plan in this group is to improve your Spanish with games, real activities and exercises to speak more.
All the games and activities are a good excuse to correct the most difficult/ frequent mistakes:
Difficult words, confusing past tenses, prepositions, verbs that mean many things, ser and estar in the past, sentences with two or more verbs, subjuntive, colloquial expressions,
and also “cultural" mistakes: How we, Spanish people, use the language in different situations?
People participating are (almost always) very nice, and usually leave very positive reviews of the classes.
If the plan fits you, come to practice your Spanish and we'll talk about food, travel, work, culture, Internet, local issues, business, news and many more things.
There is a contribution to participate of only €10 per person/2-hour class (materials included, drinks not included) or €30 for 4 classes.
Let´s talk.
Rafa.

Crafting runes, from clay.
We will be doing homemade runes with clay. It can take a bit of processing. To let them dry and paint. But I hope every one enjoys them. ^^
## Rune Making Class
**Carve Meaning. Shape Intention. Create Something That Lasts.**
Runes are more than symbols. They are an ancient alphabet rooted in early Germanic and Norse traditions, historically used for writing, protection, divination, and marking objects with intention. Each rune carries layered meaning. Strength. Protection. Prosperity. Movement. Transformation.
In this Rune Making Class, you will create your own handcrafted rune set while learning what each symbol represents and how it has been used across history.
### What Runes Are Used For
Runes have traditionally been used for:
• Divination and guidance
• Protection markings on tools, weapons, and homes
• Meditation and self reflection
• Setting intention and personal focus
• Symbolic storytelling
Whether you approach them from a historical, spiritual, or symbolic perspective, runes are tools for reflection and intention.
***
## Who This Is For
This class is for:
• Fantasy and history enthusiasts
• Writers and world builders
• Spiritual practitioners
• Makers who enjoy hands on craft
• Anyone drawn to ancient symbolism
No prior experience is required.
***
Runes were once carved into clay, wood, bone, and stone to carry intention into the world. Now you will make your own with clay.
Seats are limited.
Reserve your place and create something timeless.

CBusData - Discover the Power of Window Functions
Window functions have nothing to do with the Windows operating system but provide a “window” to a result set when used in SQL queries. They are powerful, set-based methods to view data in unexpected ways. Window functions provide easy, set-based solutions to solve some common problems:
* Using running totals
* Performing operations in intervals
* Identifying data gaps and islands
* Performing aggregates without losing detail
Many people are confused by window functions and do not know how to use them properly. This session will explore window functions, how they work, and how to use them. Demonstrations with several examples will solidify how window functions can simplify queries and make them more powerful.
