ENGLISH! WEDNESDAY / The Central House - Philosophy Meetup: 19:30h - 21h
ENGLISH! WEDNESDAY / The Central House - Philosophy Meetup: 19:30h - 21h
Hi and welcome to our next Socrates Café philosophy meetup! Do you have a hunger for deeper understanding of yourself and the world? Do you value deep, honest and respectful dialogue? If yes, then this meetup will be very interesting for you. • WHAT IS A MEETUP ABOUT? At every meetup we have a discussion using Socratic method: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socratic_method](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socratic_method) We ask, answer and discuss questions and ideas to stimulate critical thinking and to widen our perspectives with new concepts and thoughts. The main purpose of these meetups is to enrich ourselves with the perspectives of others, not to convince others about our own perspectives. Our meetups are about our own philosophies of life and not necessarily what the great philosophers and academics have said or written. It is not a debating club or a platform for proselytizing. Instead, we place the emphasis on questioning, open mindedness and challenging our own assumptions while listening to and respecting the views shared by others. A Socrates Café meetup is considered a success when participants leave a discussion with many more questions than they had at the beginning. • WHAT TOPIC IS DISCUSSED AT THE MEETUP? Participants suggest topics at the beginning of each meeting. We then vote and choose that event's most popular topic for discussion. No academic training in philosophy necessary; just enthusiasm for exchanging ideas and points of view. Some examples of subjects chosen on previous meetups: * What ideals are worth dying for? * Why are we never satisfied? * Why is it that human beings know that the society is going wrong, leaders are well informed about it and things continue as is? * Is identity necessary? * How can it be that people in democratic societies are so obsessed with power? (Desire to be different, better, stronger than others) * What is friendship? • WHO PARTICIPATES AT THIS MEETUP? Anybody is more than welcome to join our meetups. Our events gather people from different backgrounds, different cultures, while no philosophical background is mandatory. Our usual participants are people that have a hunger for deeper understanding of themselves and the world. People that value deep, honest and respectful dialogue. The inspiration for Socrates Cafe originates with the book of the same name, written by the philosopher Christopher Phillips. (Socrates Cafe: A Fresh Taste of Philosophy, 2002). Phillips felt that the Socratic method of dialogue and discussion should be practiced not just in academic settings, but among everyday people interested in examining deep questions together. Hundreds of Socrates Cafe groups now exist around the world. Why Is Your Language Learning So Slow? (And How to Fix It)
Why Is Your Language Learning So Slow? (And How to Fix It)
When I moved to Barcelona, I worked long hours and somehow still couldn't find people to actually practice Spanish with. I tried courses. I tried Duolingo and Babbel. They all felt the same: awkward exercises about topics I didn't care about, completely disconnected from my real life. So I figured out my own method. It worked. I learned Spanish in 4 months, and I'm now accelerating my French, not in a classroom but by integrating the language into my daily life. That's exactly what I'm sharing in this free 1-hour session. **What you'll walk away with:** * Why traditional methods get you stuck at the intermediate level * The one thing that actually moves the needle (it's not more tutoring) * Daily practices you can start tomorrow - built around your life, not a textbook **Who's this for:** * You've been learning a language but got stuck somewhere between A2 and B2 * You want to actually use the language, not spend years chasing perfection * You're open to rethinking how you learn **Logistics:** We'll meet at Sandwichez to have a Coffee all together and talk about our language experience.
Vente y hablamos. Rafa. \-\-\-\- Hi! Every day there are new ways to learn Spanish, (or any language) new apps, grammar methods, AI, teachers explaining things on videos, and they are all great. If they help you to understand more and to speak better, they are great. The main plan in this group is to improve your Spanish with games, real activities and exercises to speak more. All the games and activities are a good excuse to correct the most difficult/ frequent mistakes: Difficult words, confusing past tenses, prepositions, verbs that mean many things, ser and estar in the past, sentences with two or more verbs, subjuntive, colloquial expressions, and also “cultural" mistakes: How we, Spanish people, use the language in different situations? People participating are (almost always) very nice, and usually leave very positive reviews of the classes. If the plan fits you, come to practice your Spanish and we'll talk about food, travel, work, culture, Internet, local issues, business, news and many more things. There is a contribution to participate of only €10 per person/2-hour class (materials included, drinks not included) or €30 for 4 classes. Let´s talk. Rafa.
Scientific Paper Reading: ICLR2026 Beyond Transformers & Multimodal Frontiers
Scientific Paper Reading: ICLR2026 Beyond Transformers & Multimodal Frontiers
**Scientific Paper Reading Club: Beyond Transformers & Multimodal Frontiers** This is part of the scientific paper reading club. This Saturday, we are expanding our horizons beyond standard LLMs! Following our recent discussions, we will be diving into points 3 and 5 from our reading list presentation: **Alternative architectures (SSM/RNN)** and **Multimodal foundation models**. To make it even more exciting, we will be connecting these topics to some of the freshest breakthroughs presented at the recent ICLR conference ([https://iclr.cc/](https://www.google.com/url?sa=E&q=https%3A%2F%2Ficlr.cc%2F)). **What to expect:** Our presenter, Maxim Musin, will guide us through these two major frontiers in modern AI: 1. **Alternative Architectures (SSM/RNN):** Transformers are incredibly powerful, but their computational costs remain a massive bottleneck for long contexts. We will discuss why State Space Models (SSMs) like Mamba are emerging as the next big leap. We will look at fresh ICLR[[1](https://www.google.com/url?sa=E&q=https%3A%2F%2Fvertexaisearch.cloud.google.com%2Fgrounding-api-redirect%2FAUZIYQGC4niR9aCGjHBT9LMF4wz46OkiGKU9B7nghuo3OzbRQCWNy4fGizlUydBsvuhZgYay8Y31rCTrfquWnuEHjAibPui0IrBi71JMXQG59U0rk5DKa-hzJg%3D%3D)] insights, such as "Mamba-3: Improved Sequence Modeling using State Space Principles" [https://arxiv.org/abs/2603.15569](https://www.google.com/url?sa=E&q=https%3A%2F%2Farxiv.org%2Fabs%2F2603.15569) and "MambaSL: Exploring Single-Layer Mamba for Time Series Classification" [https://arxiv.org/abs/2604.15174](https://www.google.com/url?sa=E&q=https%3A%2F%2Farxiv.org%2Fabs%2F2604.15174) 2. **Multimodal Foundation Models:** We will explore how AI is learning to "think" natively across different continuous spaces and complex interactions. We will touch on standout ICLR papers like "Massively Multimodal Foundation Models: A Framework for Capturing Interactions with Specialized Mixture-of-Experts" [https://arxiv.org/abs/2509.25678](https://www.google.com/url?sa=E&q=https%3A%2F%2Farxiv.org%2Fabs%2F2509.25678) and "Theory of Space: Can Foundation Models Construct Spatial Beliefs through Active Exploration?" [https://arxiv.org/abs/2602.07055](https://www.google.com/url?sa=E&q=https%3A%2F%2Farxiv.org%2Fabs%2F2602.07055) You don't need a heavy math background to join—Maxim will break down the intuition behind these complex architectures so that the core concepts are easy to follow for everyone. **Meeting Details:** 🗣 **Presenter:** Maxim Musin 💬 **Language of the meeting:** English 🎟 **Entrance donation:** 10 eur 📍 **Location:** Maui coworking (Note: For some reason, Meetup maps sometimes wrongly point to other addresses. Here is the exact address: [https://maps.app.goo.gl/fjx9t4zG8GnEmXLr9?g_st=ac](https://www.google.com/url?sa=E&q=https%3A%2F%2Fmaps.app.goo.gl%2Ffjx9t4zG8GnEmXLr9%3Fg_st%3Dac) ) Looking forward to a great discussion this Saturday! Aparently there is no way of fixing meetup's markdown mess, sorry for this guys, just use your abstract imagination and experience with latech to read anouncement, this markdown render problem seem so be some kind of bug, i cleaned it in the redactor but with no effect, probably copying and pasting it clean into editor will solve it, but generating clean landing page with similar capabilities in claude code would also solve it in a way, so i didn't bother, see you at saturday

Data & Analytics Wednesday - Learning from Everyday Data
Data & Analytics Wednesday - Learning from Everyday Data
**Practical Curiosity: Learning from Everyday Data** How do we actually get better at utilizing our day-to-day data? Fancy dashboards and complex models might look nice and draw attention, but that’s not where most of us spend our time. In fact those shiny outputs frequently sit unused, while the real insights are drawn from the analyst’s daily practice. Sometimes it’s as simple and as powerful as noticing that a segment is shrinking, a channel is underused, or certain links keep getting all the clicks. There’s many different places that the spark of insight can come from, but you have to keep your head in the data and know where to look. In this session, we’ll explore real-world examples of how segmentation, testing, and click behavior can uncover practical digital marketing opportunities. You’ll leave with inspiration for your own use cases, along with a few simple ways to ask better questions, spot meaningful patterns, and make smarter decisions without overcomplicating it. **About Our Speaker:** [Elaine Armbruster](https://www.linkedin.com/in/elainearmbruster/) is a Director of Digital Experience at the [American Diabetes Association](https://diabetes.org/), where she focuses on using data and insights to create smarter, more effective digital experiences. A lifelong Columbus resident, she has built her career in email marketing and the broader digital user journey, and is finding she most enjoys working in the messy middle where systems, data, and big ideas don’t quite line up yet. Stop Guessing: How to Measure and Improve LLM Outputs
Stop Guessing: How to Measure and Improve LLM Outputs
Most people use LLMs by feel: ask a question, read the answer, decide whether it “seems good,” and move on. That works for casual use. It does not work when you are building software, automating workflows, writing important documents, or relying on AI for anything that needs to be repeatable. In this talk, we’ll look at how to improve and evaluate the inputs and outputs of LLMs using practical measurement techniques. We’ll cover how prompt changes affect results, how to compare outputs, how to build simple evaluation sets, and how math-based methods like similarity scoring can help you move beyond guesswork. This will be beginner-friendly, so even if you don't know anything about AI, you should get something out of it. However, this will be a little more technical than our intro talks. You do not need to be an AI researcher, but programmers and technically curious attendees will get a lot out of it. We’ll cover: * Why “it looks good” is not enough * How to improve prompts by changing the input, context, and constraints * How to compare LLM outputs more systematically * Basic evaluation techniques for accuracy, consistency, and usefulness * How embeddings, cosine similarity, and scoring can help evaluate results * Where automated evaluation works — and where humans still need to stay in the loop By the end, you’ll have a practical mental model for treating LLMs less like magic and more like systems you can test, measure, and improve. LOGISTICS AND PARKING: The talk starts at 7:00 PM. The first half hour is reserved for everyone to get set up and mingle. Free pizza and drinks! The cheapest parking option is to find street parking, which will only cost you a few bucks. Otherwise, park in the nearby veteran's museum lot for $8. It's highly recommended you avoid the nearby $15 garage parking.
