Maxwell Park Wine Bar, DC š· Monday Apr 13 Blind Wine Tasting (#28)
PLEASE READ AS THERE IS AN IMPORTANT CHANGE for the blind tasting at Maxwell Park only: prepayment will be required. Please note that refunds for cancellations are allowed up to 12 hours before the event start time. (This would be 6:15 AM so best to cancel the night before and definitely as soon as you know.)
Please bear with me as we navigate this new process. The real maximum number of attendees will remain at 14, but since the Meetup App wonāt let me make it a requirement to pre-pay when you RSVP "Yes," Iām not going to set a cap on Meetup's RSVP list, and we will see how that goes.
Because there is no linkage between the Meetup App and Maxwellās prepayment link, you canāt rely on Meetup's RSVP feature to know if there are still spots available. You will only know with certainty that the attendee cap has been reached if you are rejected while trying to prepay.
Here is the pre-pay link:
Let me know if you have any specific questions. Thank you for your patience as we transition to this new process!
Maxwell Park is 4 blocks from the Mt. Vernon Sq/7th St-Convention Center.
š· RSVP Please:
--**If your plans have changed, please change your RSVP to No.**
*Note start time of 6:15 PM!* Please plan to arrive on time.
š· What is blind wine tasting?
In a blind tasting you use your sense of smell, sight, and taste to try to deduce which variety(wine grape) is in your glass.
š· Do I need to be a wine professional?
Definitely not - this group is experience diverse and we welcome both wine newbies and wine pros (and everyone else in between).
š· How does this work?
--Please arrive slightly before 6:15pm to grab a seat.
--Maxwell Park will serve us two wine flights: 3 white wines around 6:20 pm and 3 red wines around 7:30 pm. Each flight is $20. A 20% gratuity and tax is added to that. Food and other wines are also available for purchase.
--We will discuss each flight as a group and try to reach somewhat of a consensus. Then comes the *big reveal* where we discover if our guesses were right.
Full vaccination is required, masks are optional. Unfortunately, while we will try to be as careful as possible, we cannot promise that this will be 100% Covid risk free, please keep that in mind when deciding whether or not to attend. Stay home if you are experiencing any symptoms of Covid 19. Please keep an eye on this event for possible changes.
Hope to see you there !
\~ Linda

Profs & Pints DC: What Digital Detectives Find
[Profs and Pints DC](https://www.profsandpints.com/washingtondc) presents: **āWhat Digital Detectives Find,ā** on the afterlife of your digital data and the methods of those who investigate it, with Jim Jones, associate professor at George Mason University and cyber security and digital forensics expert.
[Advance tickets: $13.50 plus sales tax and processing fees. Available at [https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/dc-digital-detectives](https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/dc-digital-detectives) .]
What happens when you delete digital data such as a picture, video, or email message?
The truth is that ādeletedā doesn't mean āgone,ā and digital forensic investigators can extract and make sense of the residual fragments left over from data often assumed to be gone forever.
Learn about the field of digital forensicsāand the lessons it offers those who worry about sensitive data being exposedāwith Jim Jones, who has been a cyber security and digital forensics practitioner, researcher, and educator for more than 30 years.
Youāll learn how all investigations today, criminal and otherwise, to some degree involve digital forensics, an interdisciplinary field that draws from computer engineering, computer science, information technology, law, and ethics. Digital forensics doesnāt just respond to specific incidents, but also seeks out threats within organizations, analyzes malware, and buttresses cyber security. Much of the work of Dr. Jones, his colleagues, and students involves examining digital systems of all types to understand how data persists and decays and how it can be found and recovered.
Dr. Jones will discuss how what happens to the digital data that you deleted depends on the type of device you are using, along with a host of other factors. You'll learn how digital data is stored on different devices and what does and doesnāt happen when you delete that data. You'll see examples of data extracted from different devices, demonstrations of what can be inferred from these remnants, and how investigators can tell if such remnants are genuine or not.
Finally, you'll learn about strategies to mitigate the risk of exposing sensitive data. Dr. Jones will sort those that work from those that donāt. (Doors: $17, or $15 with a student ID. Listed time is for doors. Talk starts 30 minutes later.)

LIVESTREAM | Two Trips, Two Strategies: When a JGOOTer Masters the Skillset
Click here to attend: [https://www.jgoot.com/livestreams](https://www.jgoot.com/livestreams)
Some trips are fixed.
Some trips are flexible.
Some are mostly cash.
Some are almost entirely points.
The mistake is thinking those are different games.
Theyāre not.
In this special session, JGOOT Advisor Ajay breaks down two completely different trips booked back-to-back:
⢠A fixed-date Hawaii family trip for five
⢠A three-month Asia adventure starting in late February
One required specific dates and limited flexibility.
The other leaned heavily into optionality and points.
One used a mix of cash and over 90,000 points.
The other unlocked nearly $18,000 in travel for around $1,000 out of pocket.
Different constraints.
Different strategy.
Same skillset.
Itās time for:
**Two Trips, Two Strategies: See Whatās Possible When a JGOOTer Masters the Skillset.**
Ajay will walk through how he thinks about flexibility, how he chooses when to use cash versus points, and why thereās no such thing as āa points tripā or āa cash tripā inside JGOOT.
Inside this session, youāll learn:
⢠How to approach fixed-date travel without abandoning strategy
⢠How flexibility dramatically increases leverage
⢠How to decide when to deploy points and when to preserve them
⢠How JGOOT becomes a skill you use on every trip, not a tactic you turn on and off
This isnāt about showing off a big redemption.
Itās not about extremes.
Itās about understanding that once you master the skill, every trip becomes an opportunity.
Whether youāre planning a family vacation with fixed dates or dreaming about a long-term adventure, youāll walk away seeing exactly whatās possible when strategy compounds over time.

**Host's Philosophy on this event:**
The purpose of this meetup is to create a fun and supportive environment where we can improve our skills, enjoy competitive games, and connect socially. While we do aim to play seriously and challenge ourselves, the focus is more on growth and enjoyment than simply winning at all costs. Thatās why the title doesnāt include ācompetitiveā or āsocialāāwe want a healthy mix of both. We do expect a mindset geared toward learning and getting better over time. That said, this event isnāt intended for total beginners; an understanding of the game is expected so that everyone can contribute to meaningful and engaging matches. The host holds the right to remove you from the game if they believe that you are at a C level(absolute beginner). if you can't pass to the setter for example, you are a beginner.

Vibe Coding & OpenClaw
āThis meetup is for anyone building with OpenClaw (& Claude Code) or experimenting with other AI tools to create agents that can act and make decisions on their own. If you havenāt tried these yet, come hang out, ask questions, and see what others are building. Weāll trade notes, troubleshoot setups, and explore what it takes to run these systems openly on the web instead of inside closed platforms. Bring your laptop, grab some power, and jump into a night that feels part LAN party, part live build session, where people test ideas and show what their agents can actually do.
š [RSVP on LUMA](https://luma.com/53dx7no1)
Weāll also have some fun by running a live test to see if a few of our agents can send Bitcoin back and forth and talk about why thatās a meaningful step for autonomous AI. Itās a chance to connect the dots between open AI tools, Bitcoin, and the wider goal of creating technology that no one can turn off.

Turkey Run: A Challenging-Moderate 4 or 6.3 Mile Hike with Rock Scrambles
**Turkey Run: A Challenging-Moderate 4 or 6.3 Mile Hike with Rock Scrambles**
SEE IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON REGISTRATION UNDER "NOTES."
This is a great hike to step up your hiking to a more challenging level due to the terrain. There are two loops in this hike: one for 4 miles and a second for 2.3 miles. Work on building your hiking strength while challenging yourself to a rock scramble. This hike would be rated a moderate hike other than the rock scramble over a stream and other stream crossings using ropes, which earns it a āchallenging moderateā. Please be aware, that the stream crossings and scrambles are challenging, and that good footwear is a must.
Turkey Run Park has a number of wooded and riverside trails. Turkey Run Park preserves a vertical slice of the Potomac Gorge ecosystem. A unique combination of flora and fauna makes a home in the park's riverbanks, flood terraces, upland forest, streams, and underground seeps. There is also a variety of fauna that lives along and in the river. You may see cormorants and a variety of water birds. Trails in Turkey Run Park cross through several of the distinct habitats that make up the Potomac Gorge ecosystem. The Potomac Heritage Trail (http://www.nps.gov/pohe/planyourvisit/index.htm) also runs through the park. Along our route is a fun rock scramble and six stream crossings that you cross using rocks, and of course, a helping hand is always offered. The extra 2.3 miles is challenging in its own way. While we hike mostly along the river and its beautiful views, we will need to navigate several downed trees including one that is quite a challenge.
The 4 mile hike should end around noon and the second around 1:30 PM.
A leashed, well-trained Fido is allowed on this hike.
Bring a lunch to enjoy between the two hikes.
**Time to Meet**: Please meet at 9:45 for introductions and sign in. We will start hiking promptly at 10:00
**Contact Information**: Please use the comments feature for routine comments and questions. The hike Leaders are Christa (410-610-6254) and Tim (202-744-0289). Call or text as needed.

Turkey Run Park in Virginia is located along the George Washington Memorial Parkway in McLean, VA 22101. It is accessed via the GW Parkway (Exit 43). We will meet in the main parking, C-1 lot near the parkway exit when coming from the North; when coming from the South the exit is almost immediately.

**Abstract**
GitHub Copilot is powerful, but what if you could scale from a solo AI assistant to an entire team of specialized agents working in parallel? This session introduces Squad: an open-source framework for multi-agent orchestration that lets you define teams of AI agents with specific roles, responsibilities, and expertise.
We'll progress from Copilot basics to the Copilot CLI, explore how Agents add autonomy, and see how Instructions and Skills let you customize agent behavior. Then, the climax: a live demo where a Squad team of 3 agents (Lead, Developer, Tester) stands up and builds a working application in real-time, showcasing true multi-agent collaboration.
Whether you're new to AI or exploring how to scale your use of Copilot, this session will show you what's possible when agents work as a team.
