Sunday Shut Up & Write!® in Sheppard-Yonge
We are now at **Yonge Sheppard Centre** in the **food court** near **Dazzle Mi**. We start a bit past 1pm, so if you're late, please find a seat and start writing -- we'd love to hear about your story or your day -- afterwards. :) **Coworking for writers in your area!** Join us for some focused writing time. All writers and all experience levels are welcome and don’t worry, no one will see what you've written. This session is about getting your writing done and meeting other writers in your area. When you show up, say hello to everyone, grab a drink, and get your writing tools ready. Once you’re all settled, take some time to chat with your fellow writers. Once everyone’s arrived, I will lead quick introductions and then set the timer for our quiet and focused writing session. Afterward, we’ll have time to chat and get to know each other. We often talk about our successes and challenges as writers. If you don’t have time to stick around, no worries! **A note about the format** We don’t host critiques or readings. These events are a safe space for writers of all skill levels and genres to work on their craft, so no one will read or critique your writing. You can e-transfer to the following email at:** **torontohistorywalks@gmail.com** In 1918, Toronto struggled to carry on in a world without hope. A world of violence and death. With the coming end of WW1 in sight, Toronto and Canada glimpsed hope for the first time in 4 years. But something worse was on the horizon, something unseen, worse than the trenches and the death from poison gas. It was a killer that encircled the globe and struck down victims in mere hours, soldiers and civilians alike, children and adults, and was called the Spanish Flu. In time millions would succumb to the monster. With the hundreds of troop ships, and the war still ravaging Europe, the disease spread unchecked. Wave after wave of influenza engulfed entire countries. Entire populations were sickened and thousands died in a matter of hours. The Spanish Flu disappeared as quickly as it appeared in early 1918. But that was a century ago. And we have learned plenty from it. Learn about the history of the Spanish Flu and its impact on Toronto, how we fought it both on the ground and politically, and how it eventually disappeared. And to see that our world is different and our health measures are stronger. We are in a better position because of the Spanish Flu. **This is a living history tour!** This walking tour begins on the steps of Old City Hall at the northeast corner of Queen Street West, and Bay Street. The tour returns to the start location at the Old City Hall. This walking tour is for all walking levels. Please dress for the season, and hope to see you there. This walk has a ticket price of $15.00 per person. If you plan to attend please secure your spot early! \*\* **Please note: Please e-transfer the ticket price when booking your space for this tour! Drumming Circle & Uplifting Discussion 🪘✨🌍
Drumming Circle & Uplifting Discussion 🪘✨🌍
## Details **NO MUSICAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED** **About Drum & Soul** The only intention behind Drum & Soul is to help create vibrant, healthier, and more united communities – together. We believe art is the best channel for that purpose. This is more than a drumming circle. It is a practical space where we do two things at once: we develop useful skills and cultivate inner qualities, and we help others grow those same qualities. Through rhythms from many cultures, collective singing and meaningful conversation around a focused theme, we practise skills that strengthen both the individual and the community. **Why come** If you want to expand your expressive capacity, practise listening with depth, learning to lead or join others who take community wellbeing to heart, Drum & Soul is for you. This is a place to try courageously, to learn deeply, and to contribute authentically. Everyone is welcome regardless of background or musical experience. If you feel shy in groups, that is completely natural and we got you. A few of us will gently hover around newcomers like butterflies, offering a warm welcome and quiet space so nobody feels out of place. Many people tell us they arrived nervous but soon felt as if they had stepped into a family home. **How it works** At the start of each session we centre with a short breathing exercise, followed by a demonstration of simple rhythms, then break into small groups for guided conversation. Then we’ll have a potluck meal and continuing our conversation and connection over a break. Finally we move into collective jamming and improvisation. **Typical meeting flow** 1. 🫱🏽‍🫲🏻 Arrival & social time – 15 min 2. 🙋🏻‍♀️ Welcome, check in and centring – 15 min 3. 🪘 Call & Respond **Drumming & demo** – 15 min 4. 💬 Facilitated **Discussion** on the Theme (groups of five-or so) – 20 min 5. 🦋 Potluck **dinner** & social time afterwards – 40 min 6. 🕺🏽 Open **Jamming** with multiple instruments – 30 min *This outline is flexible and may shift to suit the group and the space.* **Logistics & what to bring** We meet in a large beautiful space. Drums are available on a first come first served basis. We also provide plenty of small percussion instruments so every hand can play. You are welcome to bring your own drum or instrument. After our time of drumming and dialogue, we share a simple potluck dinner, an extension of our circle where conversation continue to flourish over nourishing food. Feel free to bring whatever you love to share. **Cost & contributions** This is a free event. As a community we are encouraged to contribute even a small snack to share with everyone, or pay what or if you can, to cover the costs of refreshments and material, by E-transfer to: \*\*[hooshmandnyc@gmail.com**](http://hooshmandnyc@gmail.com**) – Contributions are optional. **Helpful notes** No prep needed. Doors open at 3:45 p.m. Please arrive by then so we can start at 4:00 p.m. sharp and keep the flow. Location and any last minute updates are posted on Meetup and in our WhatsApp group. We recommend joining the WhatsApp group (ask us for the link at the venue) for quick notices. **Why this matters** The world is ill, and is aching for a lasting remedy. We believe our sacred mission is to nurture one another, define our roles in service to our fellow humans, and become living temples of unity. A meaning growth unfolds through both self‑discovery and collective effort, and one cannot truly flourish without the other. Come open and prepared to learn, to offer your gifts, and to be strengthened by the power of community. *This ad is also posted in other groups* 📷 Follow us on [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/artsoultoronto/) 🎥 [A glimpse from one of our sessions](https://youtu.be/ejfeV1PF-0k)

It is hands-down one of the BEST brunch buffets in Toronto (and honestly, the GTA). When people ask me where to go for a truly memorable brunch experience, I always say **HotHouse**. The food is fresh. The selection is generous. The price point is fantastic for what you get. And the desserts? Unreal. 🍰 If you love cake, this is your moment. Join us on Saturday for an hour of uninterrupted wordmaking! • What we'll do Join us for an hour of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at 10AM on Saturday mornings. Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. (I’ll be the person with the Shut Up & Write! sign.) If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer. Happy writing and I look forward to seeing you! • What to bring Whatever you need to be able to write! Bad Girls Book Club April 2026
Bad Girls Book Club April 2026
**Our April novel is: *The Hong Kong Widow* by Kristen Loesch** **This month’s novel blends gothic atmosphere with historical fiction and chilling horror, set against the haunting backdrop of China. The book is 368 pages in print and 10 hours and 42 minutes on audiobook.** In 1950s Hong Kong, Mei is a young refugee of the Chinese Communist revolution struggling to put her past in Shanghai behind her. When she receives a shocking invitation—to take part in a competition in one of the city's most notorious haunted houses, pitting six spirit mediums against one another in a series of six séances over six nights, until a single winner emerges—she has every reason to refuse. Except that the hostess, a former Shanghainese silent film star, is none other than the wife of the man who once destroyed Mei’s entire life. It is promised the winner will receive a fortune, but there is only one prize Mei wants: revenge. Decades later, the final night of that competition has become an infamous urban legend: The police were called to the scene of a brutal massacre but found no evidence, dismissing it as a collective hallucination. Mei knows what she saw, but now someone else is convinced they know what she did. She must uncover the truth about the last night she ever spent in that house—even if the ghosts of her past are waiting for her there. . . .
Free In-person Meeting: Unwanted Emotions & Loneliness, How to Get Over Them
Free In-person Meeting: Unwanted Emotions & Loneliness, How to Get Over Them
This is an in-person meeting. Did you know that unwanted emotions like loneliness, sadness, hopelessness, anger, fear, anxiety, or feelings of irritation don’t just fall on you for no reason. They are not random occurrences that simply happen to people's minds. They are definitely not chemical imbalance in your brain due to some nebulous chemical reactions by chance. Your negative emotions are the symptoms of the painful experiences that you have which are not healed, and which are still affecting you. The effects of these painful experiences are exacerbated by the pressures or difficulties of the other problems in your life. For instance, let's say you are already carrying a huge load on your back, then you cannot take on much more, but, let's say something else happens to you, such as the difficulties from the Pandemic, then the resultant combined weight on you can take you over the edge, kind of like the straw that break the camel's back. When this happens, people's attention usually goes to the straw that was added, but actually the majority of the weight had come from the huge load that were already there, holding a person down and causing a person issues. So how do you remove the huge load that was already there? How do you lighten them up? Is it possible to get rid of them? That is what this meeting will be all about. Come to our Meetup, where we can introduce you to some of the knowledge, tools and techniques of the breakthroughs in the field of the mind that we can apply to this ever important area of life. Be sure to click on the red "Attend" button below to come to this local event. We look forward to seeing you there. This group is created by the Dianetics and Scientology Life Improvement Center of Central Ohio.

Pay attention! We’re delaying a week for those of you who may be on Spring break and/or celebrating the holiday. Ok, no pancakes, but waffles-a-plenty. Join the local UX and Digital Design community for a casual monthly breakfast. Look for us upstairs!
Shut Up & Write! Kingsdale Shopping Center
Shut Up & Write! Kingsdale Shopping Center
Greetings writers! Come down and join your fellow wordsmiths for one hour of uninterrupted writing time in the upper level of the Market District Supermarket in Upper Arlington. The main entrance of the shopping center opens onto stairs/elevator leading up to the 2nd floor cafe section where we will have a table displaying a sign with the Shut Up & Write logo. Writing is largely a solitary craft. Practicing with others in a community setting may be the thing you need to fire your own routine. We’ll meet on Wednesday evenings, starting the clock at 6:30, following a brief period of introductions. This is solid writing time and all inclusive. Any project is acceptable, be it fiction, non -fiction, work or homework assignment. All is welcome and will remain private to you. The market boasts a Starbucks, a full service bar and various affordable food options. Parking is plentiful, free Wifi is provided as well as outlets for charging your devices, though they are somewhat limited, so plan accordingly. Show up as early as you like, or stay late. This group tends to socialize some, both before and after the alloted time, but this is not mandatory to you. Feel free to come and go as you please and late arrivals are welcome. The cafe may be noisy on occasion so headphones/ earbuds are reccommended as you see fit. Please try to RSVP if possible so that we may grab enough seats for all—the venue can be busy at times. Feel free to message me privately wth any questions and/ or concerns you may have. Happy writing!
