De-Stress from Work with Somatic Exercises
De-Stress from Work with Somatic Exercises
[TICKETS FOR THIS EVENT ARE SOLD VIA EVERSPORTS](https://www.eversports.ch/org/activity/a3ac0cae-7fe8-4a6d-ae56-3961e0214445) Stress is eating you up? Can't stop overthinking? And when you finally want to get some rest after a hard day at work, you can't sleep? Prolonged stress can seriously affect your health, even contributing to burnout. The good news, there are many ways to reduce stress and keep it at a reasonable level. Somatic exercises help you regulate your nervous system, calm your body down, and release built-up tension. The exercises are part of a body psychotherapy method created by doctor and therapist Alexander Lowen in the 1950s. We are guided by one key concept: our feelings are reflected in our bodies. And our bodies have the power to regulate our emotions and heal the mind. Remember the last time you were extremely stressed? Chances are high you experienced it on a physical level. Sensations such as: * Faster heartbeat * Headache * Tense shoulders * The feeling of something sitting in your throat * Stomach pains or nausea * A sense of having soft and weak legs These are just some of the examples of how our bodies react to stress. [Research ](https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5579396/)shows that chronic stress can have a negative impact on our heart, immune and digestive systems, hormones, and memory, to name but a few. According to a [review of various studies](https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8458738/) body psychotherapy approaches may bring about the reduction in people’s psychological distress. This workshop will give you easy tools to use when your stress levels rise. Deepening the practice at home will help you build stress resilience in the long run. The workshop will be especially useful for people who experience work-related stress but anyone can benefit from the practice. What you'll learn and try out: * You'll understand your own stress response better. * You'll pay more attention to early stress signs and will be able to react before stress hits you hard. * You'll try simple exercises to manage stress tension on the go, even during a coffee break at work, not just sitting on a meditation pillow in a quiet spa! You'll gain the tools to build your lifelong stress resilience. We’ll cover the most common body symptoms and experiment with relevant somatic (bioenergetic) exercises for stress. The workshop is open to participants of all genders. **Your Facilitator** Anka Grzywacz is a psychologist and body psychotherapist in training (final year of a 4.5-year training). She has extensive experience and 1.5 years of training in the facilitation of psychological workshops. She is also a sex therapist.: [TICKETS FOR THIS EVENT ARE SOLD VIA EVERSPORTS](https://www.eversports.ch/org/activity/a3ac0cae-7fe8-4a6d-ae56-3961e0214445)

SILENT WEEKEND RETREAT: Deepening Into the Mystery - In-Person and Online Hybrid
[**NOTE:** An RSVP to this Meetup event is not sufficient for registration. To register and pay for the event, please follow [this link](https://imcw.org/event/?eventId=1682).] **ABOUT:** The rhythms of Spring invite us, to tune into the deeper currents of life, to sense our deeper spiritual roots, and to experience unity. We tend to identify ourselves with our separateness: our personalities, our achievements or failures, our beliefs, our worldly selves. Yet there is something more fundamental about ourselves that we can explore, both in our minds and in our bodies, in our beings. As we cultivate a letting go of clinging to a worldly identity, we can begin to explore who we are at a deeper level. This shift in identity has the capacity to bring a great deal of freedom, peace, and joy. Through dharma talks, group meetings with the teacher, meditation instruction, personal meditation, and gentle movement practices, you will be guided toward a sense of who we are more fundamental than our experience of our personalities, our ego, or our worldly selves. **TEACHER:** **Stan Eisenstein** has been guiding self-inquiry and other meditation practices since 2012. He is a teacher for the Insight Meditation Community of Washington, with founder Tara Brach. Stan is a an instructor for various courses: Mindfulness-Basted Stress Reduction; Inviting Chronic Pain and Illness to Tea; Self-Inquiry. He is also a mentor for the international Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program, taught by Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield, and run by Sounds True. In keeping with the Buddhist tradition, the teachers and retreat managers receive no payment. Donations offered by students at the end of the retreat are appreciated and support the teachers and retreat managers in continuing to make the teachings available to all. **[REGISTRATION](https://imcw.org/event/?eventId=1682) :** The registration deadline for in-person participation is May 11 and online participation is May 23. **QUESTIONS :** Contact manager at imcwretreatmanager@gmail.com **TESTIMONIALS** I have found this Deepening Into the Mystery retreat a refuge into myself and the wider world around me. I discovered and rediscovered Truths with a capital T. Truths that cannot be sensed, as my scientific training so desperately wants to do - to observe. But truths that can only be experience in the quiet stillness of consciousness. When thoughts and emotions have melted away, and the only thing left is the territory itself. There we find the mystery which words cannot explain or even describe. **\- Kris** This retreat gave me the special opportunity to sit with and touch the embodiment of no-self. The practices presented worked in a systematic and congruous way that, both rationally and subconsciously, helped us to touch deep into our being and be with the emptiness and awareness that is our true nature. **\~Ari** A moving an insightful retreat--even over Zoom I felt connected to Stan and to the larger group. It helped me to feel "unstuck" in my life and feel into where my life choices could be in better alignment with what I really want/need. **\~Beth**

MEDITATION RETREAT: No Self, No Problem - Exploring Anatta
MEDITATION RETREAT: No Self, No Problem - Exploring Anatta
***\*Both In-Person & Private Live-Streaming*** **The word anatta** – which means no permanently abiding self – is at the very heart and core of Buddhist meditation practice, yet it is one of its most misunderstood concepts. **When we explore anatta** through our meditation practice, it doesn’t mean we’re trying to get rid of who we are; it means we’re becoming more and more willing to see through the small, false, often negative ideas or beliefs of what we call “self.” **In actuality,** we are so much bigger than who or what we think we are. In fact, we are not only vast, but constantly fluid and changing: new in each moment, and dying in each moment … much like waves on the ocean. **During this silent meditation retreat,** we’ll be exploring anatta through various teachings, along with meditations designed to help us loosen our tenacious grip on the ego and sense of “self,” so that we can experience more freedom, peace, and ease in our lives. **The format will include** both guided and silent meditation, a dharma talk, and walking meditation both inside and on the lovely, spacious church grounds. Lunch will be in silence, and participants are asked to bring their own. **We’ll be gathering for our retreat on Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5:00 p.m** in the beautiful St. Francis Episcopal Church in Great Falls, VA. The peaceful interior is filled with large bright windows overlooking the great lawn and a canopy of trees. The expansive grounds include a special labyrinth, and many natural places to sit and walk. **The format will include both guided and silent meditation**, a dharma talk, and walking meditation both inside and on the lovely, spacious church grounds. She is a Buddhist teacher, trained in the Tibetan Vajrayana tradition at Naropa University – the nation’s leading contemplative university – and in the Theravadan Vipassana (Insight) tradition by Dr. Tara Brach – one of the world’s foremost Insight teachers. She is a graduate of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction teacher-training program led by Jon Kabat-Zinn, founder of MBSR and the Stress Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.
