Shut Up & Write!Âź Waterloo, Friday evenings - Auberge pub
Join us for a weekly session of friendly and focused writing time. From 6pm every Friday:
We'll be at the Auberge pub, across road from Waterloo. See full location info for how to find us. There'll be a sign at our table.
\*(Please see full access info, further down.)
......
* We shut up for 1 hour of scheduled focus time - 6.30 to 7.30. ...Then time to chat or carry on at your preference.
This is for writing of any description or experience level. Somewhere to get on with your own work, and connect with new people.
Most importantly to not feel isolated in your pursuits, however big or small.
i.e. If you're looking to further your writing interests; and for a comfortable social space; ...or just need somewhere to sit and focus before you go home on a Friday - you're welcome to stop by.
Please RSVP to give us an idea of who is coming / how many.
........
**6:00pm - 6:30pm**
* Find our table and grab a seat. Plus any food or drink.
* We'll take 5-10 minutes to say who we all are, and welcome anyone new.
* (No need to say what you're working on, but feel welcome to).
**6.30pm - 7.30pm**
* No talking. One hour.
* You can leave the table at any point.
* Anyone arriving late feel free to find a seat, we'll give you a silent wave. You won't get glared at!
**7.30pm**
Once 'Shut Up' time is over:
* You are welcome to head off straight away, no pressure to stick around.
* You are welcome to stay to chat with other members, as late as you wish.
* Or you're welcome to just keep writing - if you're in the zone, no need to stop just because others have.
The time is for you, to get the most benefit.
.

.
If you have additional queries re. access or other requirements, do message us via Meetup or contact the Auberge directly.
.
**A note about the format**
We donât host readings and feedback. (But we can signpost to events that do).
Whether you're writing for a professional goal, academic project, private thoughts and wellbeing, or purely casual enjoyment, (or still deciding!) - don't worry we won't be asking each other to share details.
You can just arrive, make yourself comfortable with anything you need, and get on with whatever you decide.
No-one will be reading your work or judging if you've met targets. We don't set group goals and deadlines: we're just here to help each other with our own - where needed.
Or to switch off and talk about something else completely, if you need that instead!
This is a social event and aimed at bringing new people together. Not just a co-working space.
**Respect**
Please also note our Code of Conduct: [www.shutupwrite.com/code-of-conduct](https://www.shutupwrite.com/code-of-conduct)
...And be aware this is an informal event open to adults of all ages and backgrounds.
i.e. We expect everyone who attends will treat each other with appropriate respect and awareness, and feel able to interact comfortably.
Any concerns don't hesitate to raise them with us.
For a full view of events, visit [https://shutupwrite.com](https://www.shutupwrite.com).
WRITE CLUB: one hour of silent writing (or reading) in the company of others
The first rule of WRITE CLUB is that you do not talk ***during*** WRITE CLUB.
This very simple meetup is based on the premise that public and peer accountability enables more productive writing than sitting at home and getting distracted by the fridge.
We will write/read for an hour in silence. (I will be writing thought experiments for my other meetup group: [THOUGHT EXPERIMENTS IN PUBS](https://www.meetup.com/thought-experiments-in-pubs))
If you'd like to hang out afterwards, or if you prefer just to hang out, I have another event immediately afterwards in the same place :-) You can find that here: [HANGING OUT AT THE SOUTHBANK](https://www.meetup.com/experimentsin/events/313686740)
And if you'd like to finish the evening with a dance, there is a free social salsa meetup just outside The Southbank Centre just afterwards. More info [here](https://www.instagram.com/salserosfriends/).
**This event will take place in the foyer of The Southbank Centre.**
You can find us by looking out for:
* A tote bag with WRITE CLUB sewn onto it
* My T-Shirt, which will have HANGING OUT embroidered on the back of it
* A big red flag with THE SUNRISE CLUB emblazoned on it (though this clearly isn't THE SUNRISE CLUB! If you want to find out about that, you can do so [here](https://www.meetup.com/the-sunrise-club/).)
* Other writers - who may be spread out across the centre. They will have white pieces of paper with the WRITE CLUB stamp at the top of the page.
There are plenty of places to buy refreshments, but you can also bring your own if you prefer.

Waterloo to London Bridge via Leeke Street Arches, 4 miles
* We will meet outside the main entrance of Waterloo Rail station, bottom of the main staircase (pictured below) and will begin with a short walk to Leeke Street Arches (pictured above). Great photo-ops with street artwork changing daily.
* We will then proceed via South Bank and pass through the Tate Modern to explore the art installations in the Turbine Room.
* We will then proceed to cross the Millennium bridge to see the Queenhithe Mosaic, the 30m long timeline depicting the history of London.
* We will then cross over at Southwark bridge back to South Bank to see the The Golden Hinde (launched 1973), which is a full-size replica of the *Golden Hind* (launched 1577). Like the original ship, she has circumnavigated the globe.
* We will and end our walk at London Bridge.
* Optional drinks/lunch at the newly oppened Spoons.
People who decide to get food from the market can always join us later in the pub.
What to bring:
Comfortable footwear
Water
Photo-taking gadgets and chargers
An umbrella just in case (it's London after all)
The walk is free for members who have subscribed for an annual membership. For other members the fee is ÂŁ5 cash/card on arrival to contribute towards the organiser's meetup fees and costs.
The annual pass option is ÂŁ15 payable by cash/card on the day. This will provide access to at least 40 walks per year (members are welcome to bring a guest to each event).
All walks are free for the NHS staff (also welcome to bring a guest).
***'No Show' Policy:*** *If the member replied 'yes' but did not attend the event, did not update the RSVP and did not inform the organiser on 3 occasions â this triggers an automatic removal from the group. That's once for events with a waiting list.*

Saturday Acting Workshop - CORIOLANUS
Following our critically acclaimed productions of OTHELLO, MACBETH and TWELFTH NIGHT the Acting gymnasium's Saturday workshop returns to Theatre Deli on Saturday 28th March with a new imagining of Shakepeare's CORIOLANUS. Plenty of superb roles available!!
Set in a post-apocalyptic landscape, Coriolanus, a fierce and proud Roman general, earns fame after defeating Romeâs enemies, especially at Corioli. Despite his military success, he despises the common people and refuses to flatter them for political gain. Urged to seek public office, his arrogance alienates citizens, leading to his banishment. In anger, he allies with his former enemy Aufidius and marches against Rome. As destruction looms, his mother, Volumnia, pleads with him to spare the city. Moved by her words, he relents, choosing honor over revenge. His decision saves Rome but seals his fate, as he is killed for betraying his allies in return.

HAND CANING FURNITURE
**Bookable via our website âĄïž** [https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/hand-caning-furniture-95/](https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/hand-caning-furniture-95/)
**âââ**
**Also known as Hand, Strand or Hole-to-Hole Caning.**
KEY PROJECT: HAND CANED WOOD FRAME.
Suitable for beginners. Enjoyable for all.
One-day weekend workshop. 10am â 5pm.
Ever seen a great chair in a junk shop but noticed that the caning that spans the seat is sadly coming away at the edges? Sometimes a chair that had been caned has had an unsightly slab of plywood tacked onto the broken seat. This is an opportunity to increase your upholstery know-how and bring a âonce prettyâ seat up to scratch.
Now you will be able to snap up a bargain and re-cane the seat yourself. The task is not as daunting as you think and can be done easily in a domestic setting with no specialist equipment- unless a washing-up bowl and some golf tees could be defined as such.
This is a very old traditional craft, sometimes known as hand, strand or hole-to-hole caning. Specialist split cane is woven from side to side and fixed in place.
During the one-day workshop, upholstery expert Netty Erw will inspire confidence while guiding you through the stages of intertwining the fine split canes. At the end of the day, you will have completed a square panel of traditional caning to take home with pride. The skills learnt during the day will enable you to embark on your own project at home. Netty has learned her skills from her clever aunt Rachael South, who in turn learned from her grandfather. We are thrilled to share in this generation's cascade of talent.
All use of tools and materials supplied. We have a cane to buy after the course if you want to get started as soon as you get home.
Beginners welcome. No previous experience in upholstery is required.
If your chair is wobbly or scuffed â or even repainted, you can come to our â[Intro to Furniture Restoration](https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/furniture-restoration-wood-revival/)â day course and learn how to make it look loved and valued again.

COUNT monthly event: Kitchen service at Van Buren Center's shelter
Come assist Van Buren Shelter (https://ymcacolumbus.org/locations/vanburen) staff in serving dinners and cleaning up on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Dinner for the women is 5-6 pm and for the families is 6:15-7:15 pm. There is ample free parking available in the shelter's lot. The recommended area to park is in green in the image above.
There will be a new entrance for the time being. We are asking all volunteers to enter through the Donation Dock door, the orange mark on the image above. This door is located between the Single Adults and Family Shelter. You will see 2 large garage doors with a large green trash compactor in the center. Please head to the closest garage door to the building wall, with a ramp leading up. There, you will see a door with a sign stating instructions on how to enter the building. Please ring the doorbell, and a staff member will come and escort you into the building. If a staff member takes longer than 5 minutes, please call the front desk at 614-689-2020. This is a new process for us, and we do not want to keep you waiting! We appreciate your patience as we navigate this temporary change.
The shelter needs a volunteer count the day before the event so sign-up ends Monday at 4:50 PM. Afterwards some of us go to the Omnipresent Atheists Weekly Meetup in progress to have a bit to eat or drink (http://www.meetup.com/omnipresentatheists/).
Volunteers must be 14 or older. Since we will be working around families, the YMCA does not permit volunteering by individuals with convictions for violent or sexual crimes. The YMCA reserves the right to run background checks on volunteers.
For questions, comment on this page or contact: Andrew, awhit12@yahoo.com, (614)937-5802 (cell). Please let Andrew know if you volunteer anytime other than our COUNT events so that he can count your hours toward our service record.

Columbus Comedy Improv Meetup at Gresso's!
Whether you've never done improv before, or you've done it for so long you knew Del Close on a personal level, or anywhere in between, come join us! Swing by *Gresso's* for the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup** for some fun and games!
The idea behind improv is to create entire scenes from scratch based on a suggestion from the audience. This can be done in game form, like *Whose Line Is It Anyway*, *ComedySportz*, or *Wild 'n Out*; it could also be done to tell stories, like *Middleditch and Schwartz*. Our meetup, which is central Ohio's longest running (and free!) weekly comedy event, brings the games (and occasionally different forms) for you to play in a safe, supportive, and compassionate environment. Not only is it a lot of fun, but you get to work on thinking faster on your feet, plus it's an excellent way to meet new people and make friendships that'll last a lifetime!
Ask yourself if you want to join the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup**, and say "Yes, And" that you'll have fun!
