**Film Line Up**
**Patagonian Chimeras**
Directors: Guillaume Broust
Length: 35 min
Lise Billon’s adventure with Fanny Schmutz and Maud Vanpoulle lies at the crossroads of history, dream and reality. Their goal: the first all-female ascent of the Southeast Ridge of Cerro Torre in Patagonia. This legendary line, on the world’s most beautiful mountain, is full of exploits and controversies. While this movie reveals an extraordinary achievement, it also explores questions about the place of women in mountaineering and the dreams they are entitled to pursue. Are there still gender-related limits in a discipline where everyone risks their life ?
**Chery On The Cake**
*Based on the original work by Josh Lowell (Reel Rock), directed by Léopold Renié and Cyril Salomon*
Length: 55 min
Embark on the Kamak ship, bound for Greenland and its pristine cliffs, following our favorite Belgians: **Sean Villanueva O’Driscoll**, **Nicolas Favresse**, **Jean-Louis Wertz**, and their newest Swedish recruit **Aleksej Jaruta**. After 2 weeks of sailing between storms and icebergs, the quartet sets up their base camp at the foot of the Mythic Cirque, a unique spot surrounded by rocky towers rising from the sea. Their goal: establish dream lines on these untouched summits, armed with their musical instruments. An ode to adventure and friendship!
**Why I Fly**
Director: *Jean-Baptiste Chandelier*
Length: 4 min
With a nod to E.T. and Peter Pan, **JB Chandelier** offers an intimate and moving film, a true visual ode to freedom. Renowned for his impressive proximity flights, the paraglider reveals, through a highly poetic style, the sensations he experiences while flying. But above all, he reflects on the wounds that have shaped his life choices. An invitation to listen to our inner voice, the one that pushes us to achieve our dreams and live our lives to the fullest!
**Queen Swing**
Director: *Thibaut Marot*
Length: 53 min
In speed climbing, it’s all about timing. 24 hours is the time **Kate Kelleghan** and **Laura Pineau** gave themselves to complete the Triple Crown, the three major big-walls of Yosemite: El Capitan, Half Dome and Mount Watkins. An insane bet: three big walls, over 2,000 meters of extremely difficult climbing. For this challenge, never before attempted by an all-female team, risk-taking, determination and complicity will be the keys to success!

Neighborhood Gems: Authentic Indian Dishes at Pink Saffron
Our NEIGHBORHOOD GEMS series features emblematic meals from around the world. This series shines a light on local restaurants and is designed to bring together inquisitive foodies and dishes that are unique and oh so worth a trip on roads less traveled!
Join us for authentic Indain dishes at ***Pink Saffron***!
**From Northern Virginia Magazine**
In his native India, Shashank Chatrapati grew up near a bakery. But his favorite treat sounds more like something out of his adopted home of Virginia: biscuits. "They were cooked in a wooden oven," Chatrapati recalls of the lightly sweet bread.
As a chef with 15 years of experience, he and co-founder Ankush Kumar opened Pink Saffron in Westpost at National Landing in November 2025. When they did, Chatrapati tried the biscuit recipe he remembered, complete with nutty filling, but baked it in the restaurant's tandoor. The result is a heat blistered, oily delight that's a cousin to naan, but with a trademark twist.
The goal at Pink Saffron is to serve cuisine that would play well in India. Spice levels are slightly higher than most area Indian restaurants, and dishes are mostly of the variety that diners won't find elsewhere in the United States.
Chatrapati mentions Bengali dab chingari - a helping of tiger prawns cooked inside a coconut - as a favorite. Inside the tandoor, the fresh young coconut combines with mustard paste, creating a seafood stew.
But event those who order familiar classics like butter chicken and biryani will be greeted with new flavors. "On our menu, it's called romesco butter chicken because of the high-quality tomatoes,"explains Chatrapati. He adds high-grade cashews and blends them with the signature Pink Saffron mix of the eponymous stamen and rosewater.
"When you eat out butter chicken, it will give you this different taste from any other butter chicken you get anywhere else," says Chatrapati.
Even the dessert menu includes several options diners won't likley see without a trip to India. The double ka meetha is a delight for fans of bread pudding; it's simultaneously comforting and novel. Descended from the royal cuisine of Indian Muslim rulers, the sweet features crispy ghee-fried bread in a floral condensed milk mixture called rabdi - which also serves as a base for black gulab jamun - in a startingly pretty treat.
Whatever diners choose to order at the new restaurant, they can bet that saffron, rose and freshly ground spices will make it taste like nothing else!
**Check out the menu** [here](https://thepinksaffron.com/food-menu)
Separate checks will be arranged in advance. All diners will settle their own tabs.

Film: Reading the World
“Education does not change the world. Education changes people. People change the world.” (Paulo Freire) Featuring newly unearthed archival footage of Brazil in the 1960s, this fascinating excursion into the early work of Paulo Freire shows how he implemented the ideas of democratic, non-hierarchical education that made him the internationally revered education philosopher he became. “Learn to read in 40 hours” was not a slogan but a promise Freire and his teaching corps made to illiterate farmworkers in the Brazilian countryside, and that they made to themselves. Simply put, instead of rote memorization, educators used familiar surroundings and objects to construct meaningful vocabulary. Moving interviews with some of the hundreds whose lives were forever changed by learning to read, sign their name, and thus vote personalize the link between education and democracy. Both were upended by the 1964 military coup that exiled Freire for 16 years and gave him to the rest of the world.—Judy Bloch
Ticket Info/Price: Single Admission: $15 ($10 for ages under 25). Director’s Pass: $110 (10 tickets)

***👑 In a world filled with hate, the King of Pop still dared to hope, to inspire, and to make a difference*** 🕺🏾
**👋 Hello guys!** Let’s hear it for the King of Pop in this upcoming musical biographical drama directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Logan.
The film will follow the life of **Michael Jackson**, with his nephew **Jaafar Jackson** taking on the lead role. Early footage has already drawn attention thanks to his striking resemblance and his natural ability to capture Michael’s iconic stage presence and dance moves.
The story is expected to offer a broad and balanced look at Jackson’s life, following his journey from the **Jackson 5** to becoming one of the most famous entertainers in the world, while also touching on the more difficult and complex parts of his story.
**The Plan:** is to start out at the **Look Dine-In Bar** (far end, past the box office) for casual drinks and chat. Then we’ll head over to **PX** **Screen 1**, where we'll be seated at **F19-F20**, but you can pick where ever it suits you best. DESCRIPITON: This true-life story follows a Scottish man diagnosed with Tourette's at 15. Targeted as 'insane' by his peers, he struggled with a condition few had witnessed. City Lights (1931)
"The SOB is a ballet dancer. He’s the best ballet dancer that ever lived, and if I get a good chance I’ll kill him with my bare hands." - W.C. Fields
In *City Lights*, Chaplin's Little Tramp meets a blind girl selling flowers who mistakes him for a wealthy man. When he learns that an operation may restore her sight, he sets off to earn the money she needs to have the surgery. He also befriends an alcoholic millionaire who only recognizes him when he is drunk. When the blind girl and her grandmother fall behind in the rent and face eviction, he tries working and even enters a boxing competition to raise the money they need.
Regarded as Chaplin's masterpiece, *City Lights* has been ranked on more than seventeen "100 greatest movies of all time" lists. Orson Welles cited it as his favorite picture.
*City Lights* is available for streaming on Amazon Prime, Hulu, HBOMax, Tubi and PlutoTV. The Columbus Library lists three copies on blu-ray and eight copies on DVD. Watch the movie on your own, then join us upstairs at East Market to discuss the film.
If you want more, *Unknown Chaplin* is a three-episode lost-footage documentary available on Youtube. It covers his time on *City Lights* beginning at the twenty-six minute mark of episode two: https://youtu.be/f8960Uc15hI?t=1558

Unknown Number: The High School Catfish
A very unusual choice for his group... Unknown Number: High School Catfish is an American [true crime](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/True_crime "True crime") documentary film directed by [Skye Borgman](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skye_Borgman "Skye Borgman") and released to [streaming](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streaming_media "Streaming media") on [Netflix](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netflix "Netflix") on August 29, 2025.
The documentary explores the events and investigation into an unknown person [cyberbully](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberbullying "Cyberbullying") and [harassing](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harassment "Harassment") teenagers in [Beal City, Michigan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beal_City,_Michigan "Beal City, Michigan") using an unknown number via insults and sexual claims. It also explores the increasingly great impact of the harassment on the community, the eventual reveal of the culprit, and the trial that followed.
IMPORTANT INFO: I strongly suggest not reading anything about it online before seeing it. It's best viewed with no previous knowledge. This documentary contains crude terminology and deals with cyberbullying, which may be a trigger for some folks.
PLEASE NOTE - WE ARE STARTING AT 6:30, WHICH IS THIRTY MINUTES EARLIER THAN USUAL.
