"Altitudes" by Lisa Johnson. Reception & Artist Talk
"Altitudes" by Lisa Johnson. Reception & Artist Talk
**Altitudes** **A solo show by Lisa Johnson** **On view: February 12- March 15, 2026** **Join us for the Reception and artist talk on** **Thursday March 5, 6 -8pm** **Free!** *Altitudes* is a solo exhibition by Lisa Johnson featuring works created during a residency in Pouch Cove, Newfoundland, in February 2025. Working primarily in oil on canvas, with a small selection of watercolours, Johnson depicts rugged terrain and cliffs from elevated vantage points. A sense of fog and stillness permeates the works, while confident, deliberate lines give the paintings a quiet momentum. Balancing restraint and movement, atmosphere and structure, the layered compositions create a quiet drama, evoking a sense of epic scale and emphasizing the powerful beauty found in nature. Through subtle shifts in tone, layered textures, and assured gestural marks, the paintings draw viewers into a meditative encounter with rugged landscapes, where stillness and momentum coexist. Toronto and the Holocaust -5TH ANNUAL EVENT
Toronto and the Holocaust -5TH ANNUAL EVENT
\*\***The Toronto History Walks Explorer Pass is available. Get it now for $125.00 for 1 year of unlimited tours, email** **torontohistorywalks@gmail.com** **for more information or for signing up!\*\*** \*\* **Please note: Please e-transfer the ticket price when booking your space for this tour! You can e-transfer to the following email at:** **torontohistorywalks@gmail.com** Let's connect and truly understand our city! That is the true path to peace! This walk is in honour of **Holocaust Remembrance Day**! This tour starts in the old "Ward" on the steps of Old City Hall, and ends at the Kiever Shul in Kensington Market. We will weave our way through Baldwin Village the real heart of the Jewish community in Toronto. Most information in books about Toronto's Jewish community tends to forget that Baldwin Village was the epic centre of the migration west out of the "Ward," and that the world famous Baycrest Hospital was established in Baldwin Village. The migration west continued in the early to mid twentieth century, and the Jewish residents established the Jewish Market in Kensington Market, and from there to Bathurst and Lawrence area. A fascinating story of heartbreak and heroism amid the horror of war and holocaust. An important walk for us all! A lesson from the past needed today! Along the way we will explore the history of the Jewish Community, The Christie Pits Riot, the infamous Swastika Club of Woodbine Beach, The Holocaust, and Toronto's place before, during and after this sad and tragic historical event. Our tour begins in the mid-19th century, and ends with the liberation of Europe in May of 1945. We will discuss ways to promote this history and how to tackle intolerance! This is our fifth annual event! This walking tour is for all walking levels and fitness skills. Please dress for the season and bring water. And remember to bring your love of history as well. Hope to see you there. This walking tour begins on the steps of Old City Hall and ends in Kensington Market. This tour has a ticket price of $15.00 per person. \*\* **Please note: Please e-transfer the ticket price when booking your space for this tour! You can e-transfer to the following email at:** **torontohistorywalks@gmail.com**

\*\***The Toronto History Walks Yearly Pass is available. Get it now for $125.00 for 1 year of unlimited tours, email** **torontohistorywalks@gmail.com** **for more information or for signing up!\*\*** \*\* **Please note: Please e-transfer the ticket amount when booking your space for this tour! You can e-transfer to the following email at:** **torontohistorywalks@gmail.com** On a warm June day in 1985, Air India flight 182 left Toronto Pearson headed east for Montreal, London, and onward to India, with 329 passengers and crew. The flight never reached London. It was destroyed by a suitcase bomb over the north Atlantic Ocean off the shores of Ireland, resulting in one of the most complicated and politically sensitive investigation in recent Canadian history. Since a vast majority of the passengers were Canadians, this was the worst terrorist attack against Canadians in our history. The outcome divided families and shone a spotlight on wrong doing at all levels here and abroad. A fascinating story, but a tragic one for the victims. This tour looks at the story in detail and the fallout. This tour also examines the history of the Humber Bay Shores, and the historic Mimico Creek, or "where the passenger pigeons take flight." The area is a walkers paradise as it follows the shoreline for great picture taking moments as well. If you have not explored Mimico and the Humber shores, or new to Toronto, this walk is for you. The price of this tour is $15.00 per person! This extensive walking tour begins at the Humber Streetcar Loop on Lakeshore Blvd and the Queensway! We end the tour at Mimico Avenue in Mimico Village on Lakeshore Blvd West. \*\* **Please note: Please e-transfer the ticket amount when booking your space for this tour! Also included: Oscar-themed trivia with prizes from local businesses, on-site paparazzi, and the Drexel's Oscar ballot contest with a chance to win a year of free Drexel movies! Plus, the BEST and most FUN way to watch the Oscars with fellow film fans and your CMG friends! PICTURES: We’ll take pics throughout the evening and the Drexel Paparazzi will be on hand as well. We’ll also take a big group photo around 6:40 near the entrance before the show begins. If you happen to take some good shots yourself, be sure to upload them on the Oscar Party Meetup event! RESERVED SEATING: As you enter the theater, the roped off section to the right marked “Reserved” is reserved for you, your guest(s) and the Columbus Movie Group! VEGAN MEALS: As previously mentioned, the food vendor does NOT have a vegan option at this year’s Oscar Party. However, we DO have a solution! I have reached out to several individuals who are affected. If you are a vegan, plan to attend the Oscar Party and did not receive an e-mail from me, please reach out via private message post a note below. I’ll provide details off-line. And while there won’t be a vegan meal option this year, I think we do have a workable solution. And, all other plans are usiness-as-usual: popcorn, sodas, candy, on-site paparazzi, decorations, bar drinks (including your first drink on the house), the Drexel’s Annual Oscar ballot contest, along with the Big Show on the Big Screen and a fun group of Movie Group friends to watch ‘em with!
