Our certified coaches will guide you through the basics of the game and help you to develop your technique and strategy. Our second meetup will be to the longstanding live music venue of Blujaz, located near Bugis. I was last there many many years ago, but there's free live music every single night! We'll each pay for our own food and/or drink (let's support the venue by purchasing something), and get to enjoy what's likely to be some swingy jazz music that evening. It is pretty free and easy so if you might need to arrive late or leave early that's fine too. To join just RSVP and I'll help make the table reservation for the group. So the venue doesn't hold seats it doesn't need to, do let me know one day before if you're not able to make it anymore. The Alliance is part of the Greater Central Ohio Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. We are an all-voices chorus dedicated to providing an inclusive environment for all those who love to sing, regardless of their race, gender identity, sexual orientation or musical background. Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor.
