Festival Doc With Big Music Name and Reception - Must Buy Ticket
Festival Doc With Big Music Name and Reception - Must Buy Ticket
JxJ, the DC Jewish Film and Music Festival does an excellent job of scheduling interesting films, conversations and receptions. This documentary film short looks particularly absorbing and very cool that Regina Spektor will be there to discuss. (It now says her husband will appear instead. But still good reception.) **The cost is $18 and includes a reception after. Tickets can be bought [here](https://www.edcjcc.org/jxj/show/my-friend-sam/) and in person that night if it does not sell out.** Singer-songwriter Regina Spektor’s life changed forever when, as a child, she was taken under the wing of musicians Sonia Vargas and Samuel Marder. Blending frank interviews with powerful animation, Samuel walks through his childhood in Romania, the trials he faced as a Holocaust survivor, and the transformative impact that music had even during the darkest times. His endurance as a violinist and the lessons he shared with Regina charted the course of her own musical development for the decades that followed. **Q&A with producer Regina Spektor following the screening.** **A catered reception will follow the conclusion of the Q&A**.

The Piano Man SOJO (5/16/26)
The Piano Man SOJO (5/16/26)
Lots of Bill Joel songs to add to the mix for his birthday! We're all in the mood for a melody at SOJO! Seasoned SOJO'ers already know the program, but below are all the details which may be helpful to our new members. MOST IMPORTANT POINTS: 1. If you have copies of Rise Up Singing and Rise Again, please bring them. If you don't, we may have some extras available for you to borrow (one time only, please). Both books are easy to find and order online. And here's a link to find YouTube Videos of any song in either book. https://www.riseupandsing.org/songs/search 2. Feel free to bring lyrics and chords to hand out for songs not in the books. If you'd like to bring a song that most people don't know well, see if you can find a YouTube link and post it in the comments when you RSVP. We'd like to listen a few times before the SOJO to get the hang of it. 3. Bring something to drink, as singing is likely to make you thirsty. 4. We appreciate (but do not require) contributions to cover our room rental costs of $75 per session. 5. Please do RSVP. It helps us know how to set up the room and allows us to contact you if we have to cancel. *** FURTHER DETAILS, if you like: * Our regular gatherings take place on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month. We meet from 2 to 5 p.m. with a break around 3:30. You can come for the whole time or just part of it. If you can arrive a little early to help set up or stay a little late to help put things back in order, that would be great. Occasionally we take pictures of our events. If you would rather not be photographed, just politely let the person with the camera know and step out of view. We'll be respectful of your wishes. Whether you're new to SOJO or not so new, we look forward to singing and playing with you!
I & You: The Musical - Curtain at 7:30PM
I & You: The Musical - Curtain at 7:30PM
Join the group for *I & You: The Musical* at Olney Theatre Center on Saturday, May 16 at 7:30PM! Apologies for making it the same weekend as *The Great Gatsby*, but my availability is limited during this run. Please comment below on your ticket location preference so we can try to create 1-2 ticket blocks. In 2015, Olney Theatre produced the Rolling World Premiere of *[I And You](https://youtu.be/BFG0NoiJh4M?si=1RLJFHShibUtkBUB)* by Lauren Gunderson, which went on to become one of the most-produced plays in America. Now, we’re bringing you the World Premiere of the musical adaptation of her hit play. Anthony turns up in Caroline’s bedroom one night bearing waffle fries, a beat-up book, and a homework assignment they’re supposed to do together: explore Walt Whitman’s poem “Song of Myself.” Chronically sick, Caroline hasn’t been to school in a while… and can’t even remember meeting some kid named Anthony, which dials up both her suspicions and her “snark-o-meter.” But as the two get to know each other, they finally learn of the deeper mystery that brought them together. Whitman’s powerful poetry inspires the music and lyrics by American Idol veteran Ari Afsar, which expands the magic of Gunderson’s remarkable story.

Sting at Wolf Trap
$53 + Fees Lawn [Tickets](https://www.wolftrap.org/show/26filene/052126/) This is the first of three shows by Sting at Wolf Trap over Memorial Day weekend. Thursday night, hopefully weather will be nice. Former Police front man and solo singer songwriter, the now 74 year old, Gordon Sumner (aka Sting) still puts on a good show. Please join us on the lawn at Wolf Trap where you can still bring in your own food, drink, and alcohol. It should be a fun time. Sting release an album called *The Bridge* in 2021. I have not heard it. He also released a *Duets* album that did well in the UK. [Sting Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sting_(musician))
