Ultimate Frisbee in *HAGGERSTON Park* on Saturday afternoons
Ultimate Frisbee Pickup! All experience welcome!
Main details:
• For first-timers: you're very welcome, no experience necessary, we can teach you the rules and how to play. You just need a willingness to run around a LOT! Bring trainers (or cleats/football boots) and clothes you can run in and plenty of water
• Please try to bring both a light top and a dark top as this makes splitting into balanced teams easier
• Throwing from 2:00pm ish, we'll kick off a friendly pick-up game around 2:15. It's fine if you can only make it later on - we play with substitutes so you can join in at any point. If no one is there when you arrive, don't worry, people are probably just late! If the meetup is not cancelled, frisbee will be happening!
• Afterwards we always head to a pub garden and have a drink or two :)
• Frisbee is a non-contact sport, but the occasional bumps can happen, we're all playing at our own risk
The Justice Trap: Law and the Disempowerment of Society
Hello Everyone,
For this meeting, we’ll be reading and discussing Peter Gelderloos’ essay **[“The Justice Trap: Law and the Disempowerment of Society.”](https://theanarchistlibrary.org/library/peter-gelderloos-the-justice-trap-law-and-the-disempowerment-of-society)** It’s a provocative text that questions what happens when social movements rely on “justice” through legal frameworks and state institutions, and how the justice system can end up weakening collective power, autonomy, and even community bonds. The essay also explores alternatives: restorative approaches to conflict, decentralized ways of resolving harm, and what “social peace” might look like without policing and prisons.
Gelderloos argues that the “justice system” can harm movements even when it appears to be fair. He describes how repression can work without convictions: two people are arrested, and an entire community ends up “punished” through stress, time-drain, fundraising, legal admin, fear, and disruption — meaning the **process becomes the punishment**, even if the court later “absolves” them.
He also pushes us to separate *resolving harm* from *justice institutions*. He gives examples of restorative and community-based ways of arbitrating conflict without police, prisons, punishment, or a legal code. In these models, conflict is often **defined subjectively** by the people involved, based on shared cultural values that are **not codified** into law. Resolution is **decentralized** (not one official space, not one official outcome), and responsibility is **shared rather than specialized**. Instead of punishment, communities may use **social sanctions meant to discourage harmful behaviour** — from criticism and ridicule to withdrawing social ties, sometimes escalating to ostracism in serious cases. The underlying assumption is that most people want to remain part of the community and can be brought back into relationship through accountability and repair.
**Guiding questions for the discussion**
• Subjective conflict: if conflict is defined by individuals, how do we prevent constant conflict or bad-faith accusations — and how do we ensure real harms aren’t dismissed?
• Non-codified norms: what do we gain from not codifying values (flexibility, context)… and what do we risk (arbitrariness, bias, exclusion)?
• The spectrum of sanctions: which sanctions feel acceptable in your context, and which feel dangerous? Where is the line between “discouragement” and “punishment”?
• If we step away from the justice system, what practices or structures could communities use to address serious harm and protect people, without reproducing prisons and policing under a different name?
Looking forward to seeing you all for what should be a stimulating and welcoming session.

Some say: “….we are a down-to-earth and friendly bunch of people with a relaxed and light-hearted attitude to questions of ‘truth’ and ‘reality’ since we are aware that nothing that we can say, and none of our opinions, can ever really capture the essence of non-duality or of this present moment in awareness. There is no wish to impose any particular belief or approach since neither can ever be conclusive. Please do come along and share your thoughts and understandings with us….”
"Here is not a location in space, just as Now is not a moment in time. Here is the dimensionless point at which all experience takes place and is identical with Now. These two points are the same dimensionless point called 'Now' or 'Here' - the eternal Now and the infinite Here."

Singles Sunday Park Walk | Ages 30 to 45
BOOK YOUR TICKET 👉🏼 [HERE](https://itsadate.club/event/sunday-park-walk-26/).
Connecting with potential partners is a walk in the park when you’re doing something you love! If you’re active, enjoy a good social scene, and are into the outdoors, join us with 30 single guests for a 6.5 km walk around the Regents Park and Primrose Hill Circular. Switch scrolling for strolling during this wholesome morning, which includes a hosted walk, coffee (or tea), and a homemade chocolate brownie.
Meet James, your host, outside Regents Bar and Kitchen in Regents Park Inner Circle and just a short walk from Baker Street Station. After a stroll around Queen Mary’s Garden, we will continue through Marylebone Green and the English Gardens of Regent’s Park. We’ll then head north, crossing Regents Canal via the Monkey Gate, and make our way up to the viewpoint at Primrose Hill. Here, we’ll stop for coffee and homemade brownies—a great opportunity to socialise more widely with the group and get to know as many people as possible. If the weather isn’t kind to us, we’ll take refuge in a nearby café around Primrose Hill.
After this short interlude, we will continue clockwise on the circuit, re-joining The Board Walk in Regents Park as we pass London Zoo, and then return to Marylebone Green, where we’ll conclude at the Japanese Garden.
This is a super-relaxed morning walk and a fantastic opportunity to meet a fun bunch of people while getting your steps in along the way. After the walk, the usual post-event matching and messaging will be available on your It’s a Date dashboard. Alternatively, there are plenty of nearby trails and cosy Marylebone pubs to extend your date with newfound connections.
If you have any questions about the event or how things will work, please get in touch with James at 07517 065492 or james@itsadate.club.

The Writers Corner (in-person session)
Join our group for under-represented writers who want more time to write, feedback on their work, and tips on developing their craft.
\*\* Please come to the bar downstairs \*\*
The Writers’ Corner is a peer support community for under-represented writers, with bi-monthly meet-ups both online and in-person. Join us if you want more time and space to write, get feedback on your work or to develop your craft.
We welcome all writers who tend to get overlooked by the publishing industry, or struggle to afford the costs of other writing courses and groups. We’ll let you self define, but we particularly welcome writers of colour, those from the LGBTQ+ community, disabled writers, unpaid carers, low income writers and anyone who self-defines as a woman.
While we have done our best to pick venues that are accessible to all, if you have any specific access requirements please send us a message so we can discuss how we can meet your needs. That includes anyone feeling anxious about attending a group for the first time (very happy for you to come a bit early, before everyone else, if that helps).
While we are establishing the group we will be deciding week-by-week how each session will be structured. This will be led by the group. Once we are more established we will have a structured programme of events that you can chose to take part in.
