Silent Reading / Creating Club at W66 (Saturday) [Luma to RSVP]
RSVP on Luma: [https://luma.com/ou3ks02q?utm_source=Meetup](https://luma.com/nmfurd3p?utm_source=Meetup) Silent Reading / Creating Club is a gathering for people who enjoy focusing together in public. Bring a book, a notebook, a sketchpad, knitting needles, whatever you’d like to spend a quiet hour doing. All projects and all participants are welcome. We’re building a community of readers and creators who value depth, presence, and shared silence. The reading and creating isn't the real highlight, though, it’s in the people who return and make it feel like a familiar room. (Please RSVP “yes” only if you can make it, so we can save a seat for you and others on the waitlist.) Our Meeting Point is the **W66 Café**. There’s no entrance fee, but please order at least one item from the café and don’t bring outside food or drinks 🙂 No assignments, expectations, or pressure. Just a shared hour of intentional silence, followed by the opportunity for good conversation. 🕰 Our Agenda **10:30 – 11:00** Arrivals, ordering drinks/food, light social time **11:00 – 12:00** The Great Quiet Hour (Read. Write. Sketch. Code. Think. Sit.) **12:00 – 12:30** Optional socializing: share what you were reading or creating, or simply continue in quiet focus. ## 🏡 House Guidelines To keep this space calm and welcoming for everyone: • Silence during the focus hour (no calls or conversations) • Put cellphones on silent mode • If using technology, please avoid meetings or audio (headphones please!) • Arrive before 11:00 if possible to minimize disruptions

Come along, grab a coffee, shut up, and write! We will do at least two sessions of each 45 minutes of writing and two breaks. We will start the first writing session at 11:15. **For space reasons, we are limited to a certain number of attendees, so please update your RSVP if you can't come**. We often have a large waiting list, and not updating your RSVP or not showing up if you do RSVP yes means that others miss out. We also ask that if you do change your RSVP, do it with reasonable notice. Thanks! We typically take over all of the cafe, but try to share tables if you can to allow space for other customers. If you are new, come and say hello, as we know that suddenly going quiet for 45 minutes and staring at that blank page can be intimidating when it's your first time. We have a lot of long-term regulars who will be happy to help you feel welcome. In between sessions, we have a Telegram chat: https://t.me/joinchat/ERW3pxD5kfELGeWs9SUhjw For more information, visit [https://shutupwrite.com](https://shutupwrite.com/).
Cut the crap! - real conversations
Cut the crap! - real conversations
**Skip the "What do you do?" and get to the good stuff.** Most nights out are stuck in the shallows. We’re changing that. This is a relaxed evening for mature adults who want to skip the boring pleasantries and jump straight into interesting, unfiltered conversation. We keep it low-pressure but intentional. To get things moving, we’ll use a simple games (e.g. a round of "Two Truths and an Unpopular Opinion)" to break the ice. We also have prepared some cards to spark deeper dialogue, just in case. Let´s move past the masks we wear at work or in "polite company" to find out what people actually think and feel. Expect a room of nice, like-minded people who have lived a bit and have stories to tell. It’s fun, it’s social, and it’s a refreshing break from standard networking. To keep things intentional and avoid no-shows, we may ask for a small €5 commitment fee. But don’t worry — your first drink will be on us. It’s simply a way to make sure the people in the room actually want to be there and contribute to the atmosphere. We’ll share all final details, including the exact location, in a message to confirmed attendees shortly before the event. **Bring your curiosity, your honesty, and your best stories. Let's talk about something real.**

Filipino Community Event!
Filipino Community Event!
I would like to share some new things I have discovered about the history of the Filipino community in Berlin. Charlottenburg is a vibrant hub for the Filipino community in Berlin. Every Sunday at 3:30pm, you can attend holy mass in Filipino at the Heilig-Geist-Kirche (Holy Spirit Church) on Bayernallee 28. Just a short distance away, Pinoy—the city’s oldest Filipino restaurant, owned by Rosalinda Nolasco-Jecht at Danckelmannstr. 49—serves traditional home-cooked dishes like *Sinigang* and *Adobo*. To support the Filipino community, I would like to promote an upcoming event. On April 11, Pinoy will host a special event, Kain Tayo Day, featuring Filipino street food from 12:00–4:30pm, followed by a special *Kamayan* Dinner from 5:30–7:00pm. (You can reserve your spot for the *Kamayan* Dinner [here](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd1omVLu-bY6oZvwD82akCA3iL65I9U7KlC1ZCJCtYyJ1il7A/viewform?usp=publish-editor).) This is a perfect opportunity if you are a *Pinoy* craving Filipino food or a foreigner who has never tried it. Meetup members, shall we gather at 2:30pm for *merienda*? It will be entirely up to you if you want to avail of their dinner menu. **Filipino Vocabulary:** **Pinoy** refers to a native or inhabitant of the Philippines, or to something related to the country or its people. The term is a diminutive form of Filipino and is used as both a noun and an adjective. **Sinigang** is a Filipino sour soup with a tangy broth, typically made with tamarind and simmered with pork, beef, fish, or shrimp, along with vegetables like eggplant and string beans. Some regions use other souring agents, such as guava or calamansi. **Adobo** is typically made with pork or chicken cooked in vinegar, soy sauce, sugar, garlic, bay leaves, and black peppercorns. **Kain tayo** means "Let's eat" in Filipino and serves as a warm invitation to share a meal, reflecting the Filipino values of hospitality, community, inclusion, and generosity. **Kamayan** is the traditional Filipino practice of eating with the hands. The word comes from the Filipino term "kamay," meaning "hand," and this method emphasizes communal dining, often during celebrations and family gatherings. **Merienda** in the Philippines is a traditional light meal or snack eaten between main meals, usually in the mid-morning or afternoon. Introduced during Spanish colonial times, it features both sweet and savory dishes such as kakanin, pancit, and lumpia. More than just eating, merienda is a time to socialize and take a break with family or friends.

Instinct #20 | Workshop
**Instinct #20** \| Workshop with ***Lo Höckner*** for **LGBTQIA+** Free with **[registration](https://wearevillage.org/en/shop/village-instinct-workshop/w15-2026)** **Beyond Overwhelm** is a somatic, collective workshop that links embodied practice to social change. Together, participants explore how capitalist working cultures shape our nervous systems toward chronic overwhelm and isolation—and how we can cultivate embodied resistance. **Beyond Overwhelm** relates to embodied learning circles with clear links to social change, aiming to practice together and empower their members to gain agency and take action. This workshop deliberately addresses the body and practicing together as a collective political practice, accessing the collective wisdom of a group. In this workshop, we are going to explore how working cultures under capitalism are creating a sense of overwhelm in our nervous systems, and furthermore, how we can cultivate embodied resistance. The session offers tools for coming out of overwhelm as a foundation for building relational strategies and counteracting individualization; exploring why this is necessary for political agency while refraiming activism. Through body-based practices, collective inquiry and imagination, this workshop gives space to explore the participant’s lived environment and how practices of connection, care and existing otherwise could be brought into it 🔵 **Beyond Overwhelm** ist ein somatischer, kollektiver Workshop, der verkörperte Praxis mit sozialem Wandel verbindet.

Just be yourself, no masks needed. \#\# 🗣️ 2\. Listen with Empathy When someone shares, listen with your full attention and an open heart. Avoid interrupting or offering unsolicited advice. Sometimes, the most powerful support is simply being present and listening. \#\#\# 🤝 3\. Respect Confidentiality What’s shared in the circle stays in the circle. Trust is the foundation of this group, please don’t repeat or post about anyone’s personal experiences outside of the meetup. \#\#\# 🧘 4\. No Judgment\, No Fixing Everyone’s experience is valid. This isn’t a space for therapy or debate, but for compassionate sharing. Let’s honor each person’s truth without trying to “fix” or analyze it. \#\#\# 🌍 5\. Diversity Is Our Strength We celebrate people of all backgrounds, beliefs, and identities. Discrimination, harassment, or exclusion of any kind will not be tolerated. Bring curiosity and kindness, we learn so much from each other’s perspectives. \#\#\# 🕊️ 6\. Honor the Flow Please arrive on time if you can, and stay as long as feels right. Our events are flexible, but being punctual helps maintain the shared rhythm and presence in the group. \#\#\# 📍 7\. If you’re quiet, know that your presence still matters deeply. \#\#\# ☕ 8\. Kind Curiosity Over Critique It’s okay to disagree, that’s part of rich conversation. But let’s do so mindfully, with respect and empathy. Ask questions to understand, not to challenge. \#\#\# 🌸 9\. This Is a Shared Space\, Not Therapy Mindful Mingle is about community and connection, not a substitute for therapy or crisis support. If you’re struggling, please know you’re not alone and professional help is always encouraged. We’re here to listen and care, not to diagnose or treat. \#\#\# ✨ 10\. A Final Note Mindful Mingle is a living community, these guidelines grow with us. By showing up with kindness, honesty, and openness, you help create the safe, heartfelt atmosphere that makes this group special. Thank you for being part of it. 🌿 **\*\*\* \*\*\* \*\*\* \*\*\* \*\*\* \*\*\* \*\*\* \*\*\* \*\*\* \*\*\* \*\*\* \*\*\* \*\*\* \*\*\* \*\*\* \*\*\* \*\*\* \*\*\* \*\*\* \*\*\* \*\*\* \*\*\*** Hello, dear friends, My name is Alicja and I'll be taking over as the host of Mindful Mingle. I’m really glad to step into this role and continue what Behnam has built over the years − a community of empaths of all walks of life and ages coming together to connect and share their experiences. It feels both exciting and a little challenging but on the other side of fear is freedom and I'm willing to take that leap. In the past, I held space for women's circles for two years before I moved to Berlin so it’s meaningful for me to return to something I care deeply about − this time in a mixed group, which I’ve been wanting to explore for a while. I intend to uphold the values and guidelines of the Mingle, so if you would like to be part of the journey, join us at an upcoming meeting!

COUNT monthly event: Kitchen service at Van Buren Center's shelter
COUNT monthly event: Kitchen service at Van Buren Center's shelter
Come assist Van Buren Shelter (https://ymcacolumbus.org/locations/vanburen) staff in serving dinners and cleaning up on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Dinner for the women is 5-6 pm and for the families is 6:15-7:15 pm. There is ample free parking available in the shelter's lot. The recommended area to park is in green in the image above. There will be a new entrance for the time being. We are asking all volunteers to enter through the Donation Dock door, the orange mark on the image above. This door is located between the Single Adults and Family Shelter. You will see 2 large garage doors with a large green trash compactor in the center. Please head to the closest garage door to the building wall, with a ramp leading up. There, you will see a door with a sign stating instructions on how to enter the building. Please ring the doorbell, and a staff member will come and escort you into the building. If a staff member takes longer than 5 minutes, please call the front desk at 614-689-2020. This is a new process for us, and we do not want to keep you waiting! We appreciate your patience as we navigate this temporary change. The shelter needs a volunteer count the day before the event so sign-up ends Monday at 4:50 PM. Afterwards some of us go to the Omnipresent Atheists Weekly Meetup in progress to have a bit to eat or drink (http://www.meetup.com/omnipresentatheists/). Volunteers must be 14 or older. Since we will be working around families, the YMCA does not permit volunteering by individuals with convictions for violent or sexual crimes. The YMCA reserves the right to run background checks on volunteers. For questions, comment on this page or contact: Andrew, awhit12@yahoo.com, (614)937-5802 (cell). Please let Andrew know if you volunteer anytime other than our COUNT events so that he can count your hours toward our service record.

This month's prompt concerns the idea of the “warrior philosopher” (seemed appropriate in these times)--that is someone whose understanding of violence, power, and justice is forged through direct experience of war. We are looking at Major General Smedley D. Butler, a highly decorated U.S. Marine raised in a Quaker (pacifist) tradition who later became a prominent critic of American militarism (there is a wonderful biography of Gen. Butler called "Gangsters of Capitalism") Butler's argument in *War Is a Racket* (1935): that many U.S. interventions were driven less by national defense than by corporate and financial interests, with Butler portraying himself as an enforcer for business and Wall Street. We can consider the moral ambiguity of his insider critique—whether complicity strengthens or undermines credibility and also consider some of the concrete reforms he proposed (e.g., “conscript” capital before soldiers, restrict the military to coastal defense, and have only those who fight decide on war). Butler’s life arc clearly changed from pacifist upbringing to warrior to antiwar crusader—and asks whether true understanding of peace requires firsthand knowledge of war, and what that implies about the cost of suffering. So do we need to suffer to understand suffering? Do we have to experience war to appreciate peace? As one more question: in the movie "A Few Good Men" Jack Nicholson's character says that "you have the luxury of not knowing what I know" so do most of us go through life oblivious to real violence and suffering? See you at Drunken Philosophy!

Humanist Program
Humanist Program
The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event. We will be hearing from Becca Powell, Director of Advocacy and Outreach at Unchained At Last, an organization whose mission is dedication to ending forced and child marriage in the United States through direct services and systems change. Unchained At Last's mission clearly meshes and addresses several of our Humanist Ten Commitments. Becca will educate us about an issue many of us may not be familiar with--but should be. Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk. Going forward our meetings will be hybrid.
