Come say hi! No experience needed, no commitment required.
Walk & Talk Wien
This week's event will be hosted by Sridhar (Srinivasan) one of our regulars, who is rediscovering the joy of being in nature and in community. He enjoys the stimulating interactions that arise from new connections while walking, and hopes that others also find their spark and are moved to flow, that eventually fulfills them.
**Walk & Talk**
**Do you speak English? Then welcome to Walk & Talk!**
This event is suited for all people who like to connect to other people and like to walk. The beauty of this regular event is that you are in the nature and you walk around 7 kilometers. In the meantime, if you feel for it, you talk, if not, you just walk. You do something for your health, get to know new people and you will feel much better.
It’s FREE, all you need to do is to show up this Tuesday at no later than 1 pm at the U6 Spittelau exit to Donaukanal.

We play light: no sliding, hard tackling, fighting, screaming, & hopefully no injuries. We need to respect current regulations in Vienna, Austria.
The main priorities are to have fun and being safe. The drinks are relatively free after the game in the local pub, served to those who have shown fantastic football fair-play skills. We will confirm the location, the pitches, and the dressing room numbers via our dedicated Football WhatsApp group/s. Keep an eye out for the group messages. See you all soon.
Sorin SMS/ WhatsApp +43 6764276984 (please ask to be added to our football groups). We will probably need to confirm your presence if you are coming for the first or second time.
Important management rule:
**\> "No shows" are penalized with 10€ fee\. Please remove your name from the list at least SIX\!\!\! \(6\) HOURS before the event\.** Book a place via FootballExperiences.NET using this link [FOOTxp](https://footballexperiences.net/kickaball/)
One small final note:
Please avoid trying to take justice in your hands. If someone is talking bad, complaining, insulting someone, fouling on purpose or committing the usual football shenanigans, please let the organizers know. Measures will be taken, we assure you. Any misbehavior on your part, such as responding in an obscene way, fighting, or leaving the pitch is not a practical and diplomatic way of resolving the issues (it tends to create more tension and cause more problems). Let’s be respectful and mature and try to enjoy the game we all love.
That’s why we’re all here. Get to know people from all over the world and have fun!
Thank you.

*Talk description:*
What happens behind the scenes when the lights blink red at Austria’s largest marketplace? This talk takes you on the full journey of an incident at willhaben - from the adrenaline of the first pager alarm to the relief of the fix, and finally, the crucial post-mortem. We will explore how we turn chaos into structured response, practice a blameless culture, and use every outage as fuel to build a more resilient platform. Join us to see how we ensure that a software failure today leads to a stronger system tomorrow.
**Patrick Favre** \- Software engineer with 15\+ years of experience\, starting with Java and evolving toward cloud\-native architectures\.
Currently a Lead Developer at Senacor Technologies, focused on building scalable systems in complex enterprise environments, with a strong interest in how cloud requirements are changing the way we choose our tech stacks.
*Talk description:*
As software has moved toward cloud-native and cloud-first architectures, the constraints and priorities of our systems have changed.
In this talk, I’ll explore how that shift reshaped the way I evaluate technologies - as a Java developer at heart - and why I sometimes choose alternatives to the JVM, while still seeking the strengths I value from the Java ecosystem.

🎳 Let’s play skittles! „Queer Kegeln“
Join our monthly “Queer Kegelabend”, which is mostly a pure fun event with a slight sportive touch. No previous experience required. Beginners and all genders most welcome! It is our ambition to welcome a broadly diversified crowd! Your own omfortable footwear might contribute to an enjoyable evening.
**Schedule:**
1. 19:20 Get together
2. 19:25 Instructions (including safety), line-up of participants
3. 19:30 Getting started
* *Latecomers unfortunately can´t be admitted.*
* *Please bring a few EUR 1 coins to keep the coin operated machinery going.*
There is no drinks or food service in the basement (Kegelbahn) of Café Weidinger. So feel free to order something on arrival and take it downstairs before we get started. Alternatively bring your own drinks or food. Yes, this is possible!
Its chatting, meeting (new) people, catching-up with the ones you might already know from our monthly MeetUps at the HIVE or other events. Communication is key, like always. Let’s enjoy a nice evening together with a modest sportive touch on the side!
**Please show respect to the others and arrive on time.** As we need to line-up the players before getting starteted, hence late comers unfortunately can´t be admitted.
**What is skittles play (Kegeln)?**
Skittles play has a very long tradition in Europe and is the game before the Americans "invented" bowling. So we will play with 9 pins and smaller balls with less weight compared to bowling.
**Costs:** To rent the skittle alley is just EUR 8 per hour for the whole group. We will divide costs by the number of participants.
So expect a contribution of around *EUR 2-3 for the whole evening*. The number of participants is limited.
The machinery of the skittle alley is coin operated and accepts EUR 1 coins only. So please bring along a few EUR 1 coins to keep the machinery going!
**Participation Fee:** To help cover the Meetup maintenance fee, we recommend a donation of 1-2 Euros directly to the organizers.
**Results:** The results of the evening (Igo is so kind to count the scores and enters theses for each participant in a spreadsheet) are published in the "pictures" area of the MeetUp. Historic results are availble there.
**Cafe Weidinger** has not been renovated over the last at least 50 years.
The skittles alley dates from 1964. You can feel this "special flair". A bit shaby, but inexpensive fun for a whole evening.
It´s almost a museum of a skittles alley.
**The difference between bowling and skittles play**:
* The bowling lanes are covered with an oil film, the skittles lane is not.
* In bowling, the ball is is considerably larger and heavier.
* Bowling lanes are slightly curved, our lane is flat.
* Bowling balls have three holes, our balls have none, one or two. Most of our balls have two holes.
* Nine pins are thrown instead of ten.
* In bowling, the pins are set up by so-called pin-setter machines and therefore stand freely in contrast to skittles, where the pins hang from strings.
* Our skittles lane is an asphalt lane.
* You do not need to rent or bring special shoes llike for bowling. But to play in sneakers or sportive footwear is more comfortable.
Run+B-fast
Hi Running fellows,
Whether you’re a walker, new to running, a semi-pro, a marathonist or a sprint star - if you want to start your weekend in an active way and enjoy the outdoors in lovely surroundings with a fun, international and multilingual group of people, you are welcome to join us!
Every Saturday at 9:30 am, we meet, we run, in the magnificent Schönbrunn park, and then we go for breakfast.
Want to discuss politics or the best recipes for banana pancakes? Not a problem. Not feeling social? Tune out with your earbuds - we can talk over breakfast. We are casual. You can be too.
What to expect: Start by meeting Adrian, Ali, Liz, Paul and Sonia on-time at 9:30am outside the Schönbrunn U-Bahn stop (exit Grünbergstraße). (Coordinates: 48.1858130, 16.3200640) From there, we walk to the side park entrance where the “running” part begins. The important thing is that you run at your own pace. Typically, small groups of people will run at the same pace as you, so you never have to walk/run alone :)
We finish one hour later, at about 10:40am, reconvening just inside the Hietzinger Tor exit. (Coordinates: 48.1858825, 16.3032647). From there, we’re off to breakfast!
Breakfast Details: Anker bakery opposite the U4 Hietzing station and depending on the weather, grab something for a picnic in Schönbrunn park, or hang out in the bakery. If you missed us earlier, you can always go there around 10:45.
We are a fun group of runners who don’t take things too seriously. We meet, chat, RUN, stretch, chat, EAT and we hang out over a beer every now and then. It's that easy. Please join us for breakfast after the run! The more the merrier.
Typically we are 10-30 people, as not everyone who comes signs up on meetup.
Important disclaimer: Please only run as much as you feel you can, considering the temperature, weather conditions, your own fitness etc... run and walk at your own pace as the organizers do not assume any liability for any injuries or health issues. Sonia, Adrian, Ali, Paul and Liz

C-food and Eat It @ Coastal Flats
They have great seafood so if you see some of it, eat it!
Here is their menu: greatamericanrestaurants.com (https://www.greatamericanrestaurants.com/coastalflats/gaithersburg/Menus/Dinner)
Yes, “it’s a chain, but the food is delicious” at these moderately priced seafooders where “wonderful” lobster rolls, “terrific” crab cakes and “to-die-for” shrimp and grits arrive in “noisy”, “beach-themed” dining rooms; the “efficient” servers “know the menu well”, and though they generally “don’t take reservations”, “you can call ahead” to get a spot in line.
All aboard mates!
Cheffy Vietnamese Street Food at Chao Ban!
Join us for some cheffy Vietnamese Street food from Moon Rabbit's chef, Kevin Tien, at his new conept - ***Chao Ban*** in Tysons Galleria!
***Washingtonian:***
At his upscale restaurant Moon Rabbit, chef Kevin Tien and his team reimagine Vietnamese food with modern dishes like mochi beignets with fresh eel or green-curry sponge cake. But at his new fast-casual spot, Chao Ban, in Tysons Galleria, Tien is focusing on more familiar staples like pho and banh mi—albeit with some of his usual cheffy twists.
“If you want super traditional Vietnamese food, definitely go check out the original mom and pop places,” says Tien, citing Eden Center and standbys like Pho 75. “We’re just trying to do what our version is.”
At Chao Ban—meaning “hello, friend”—Tien has teamed up with Alan Vo, his partner in Hot Lola’s fried chicken joint and a longtime friend from his early restaurant days in Louisiana. One of the banh mi at Chao Bun features Hot Lola’s Sichuan-chili-oil-spiked Nashville hot chicken. Other sandwiches come stuffed with salt and pepper shrimp—a nod to the chef’s late nights at New Big Wong in Chinatown—or crispy pork belly rubbed in pho spices.
All of them come on bread that arrives par-baked from Leidenheimer Baking Company in New Orleans. “When you take a bite, there’s like a million crumbs everywhere, with a super soft interior,” Tien says. The toasted bread also accompanies a couple bowls, such as a lemongrass beef short rib stew or a lemongrass chicken coconut curry.
Other snackier dishes include fried spring rolls, nuoc cham chicken wings, and honey pecan shrimp (a riff on honey walnut shrimp) with yuzu kosho mixed into the condensed milk drizzle. Tien expects a sleeper hit to be the shrimp chips and dip with a Vietnamese “salsa” made from charred tomatoes, chipotles, shallots, lime, and fish sauce.
On the more traditional end of the menu is pho, including a beef version with 12-hour brisket and another with halal lemongrass chicken. (All the chicken on the menu is halal, and Tien is hoping to expand the offerings soon.) “We’re toasting all our spices by hand for the pho, so it’s like the freshest all our spices could be,” Tien says.
Check out Chao Ban menu [here](https://www.eatchaoban.com/menu)
**WAITLIST:**
Meetup does not allow a waitlist for paid events. If this event fills and you are interested in adding your name to the waitlist, please send host a message through the app.
To enhance the opportunity for great conversation, we would like to keep the group small. Please feel free to sign-up to meet us along with up to 2 friends.

VSDC Volunteer Day at Rosie's Farm Sanctuary - Saturday
Join us for a volunteer day helping the animals at Rosie's Farm Sanctuary in Potomac, MD.
Before attending this event, you must sign a liability waiver. Please use this link [https://waiver.smartwaiver.com/w/b5nky2tonaovjqgjn6ap5p/web/](https://waiver.smartwaiver.com/w/b5nky2tonaovjqgjn6ap5p/web/)
The chores you will be doing are physical. You will be working on big projects that require many volunteers like removing old bedding, sanitizing stals and replacing with new bedding, along with the daily clean up chores. Wear boots and clothing you don’t mind getting dirty.
Feel free to bring a filled water bottle. On sunny days a brimmed hat and sunglasses may be helpful. Sunscreen is also suggested.
Please do not bring any food or yummy-smelling items on your body or in your bag as our animals love to eat and are on special diets.
Out of respect for the animals, we do not allow any food with animal products to be consumed at Rosie’s Farm Sanctuary. Please ensure that all edible items are plant-based (no dairy, no cheese, no cow’s milk ice cream, no meat, no fish, no eggs). Thank you for your cooperation and respect for this. It is very important to us.
There is a gift shop where you can browse and warm up during the event.
Please post your pictures and tag Rosie’s Farm Sanctuary and VSDC! Stick around at the end for a group photo behind the barn.
If there is interest, we may go out to eat in one of our local vegan restaurants afterward.
We are limited to 30 volunteers, so please change your RSVP if you cannot attend.
Rosie's Farm Sanctuary is always in need of volunteers. If you want to volunteer with them outside of VSDC's volunteer days, make sure to visit [Rosies Farm Sanctuary ](https://rosiesfarmsanctuary.org/volunteer/) to sign up.

Korean Cuisine @ George's Hotpot and BBQ (4.5 rating!)
Back by popular demand (One person)! George's Hotpot and BBQ has separate dishes for reasonable prices. It's not all you can eat. You buy each dish and cook it in the BBQ or hot pot or both. Prices on average are about $6-10/dish. Two dishes are enough!
They have wine and beer and soft drinks and tea. They also have a sauce bar similar to K-Pots.
It's nice to be able to bring home what you can't eat and reheat it for dinner the following night.
I thought the food was very tasty and they had good quality meat and seafood.
Have a look at their menu: http://www.georgeshotpotandbbq.com/
All aboard mates!
Simply Social - Fairfax
We've been to the Reston location - this is their store in Fairfax. It's a little smaller, so I've set an attendee limit. Same menu, same good food, and I recommend the housemade blackberry syrup for a latte, or their Rose Matcha Latte. Both are kinda unique. This weekend we're meeting on Sunday, a great way to rest and reset, especially after a busy Saturday. Join me.
(No discussions on politics, religion or potentially controversial topics. We're here to relax and have fun. Just be respectful and we'll be alright. Pay your own way, and enjoy!)
Roggenart - Reston
This event is inspired by a suggestion from one of our members. I'm curious what we'll find, as I've never been to Roggenart. Join us in Reston for good vibes on a midweek morning, complete with essential fuel!
