Explore Chain of Ponds at Elsternwick Park then coffee at Little Ox
Meet at The Little Ox Cafe cnr Cole and News Streets in Brighton. We'll walk to Elsternwick Park and then spend some time wandering along the new paths and large stepping stones in the beautiful Chain of Ponds Nature Reserve. Apparently, there are over 100 different indigenous plant species, then back to The Little Ox for a cuppa & chat. Let me know if you have any questions. Cheers Gillian 0409 219 524

Hello Infracoders! Please join us to talk about anything related to infrastructure as code. Thoughtworks Australia have kindly offered to host the Infracoders meetup and will supply food and beverages. To speed up the office checkin you can pre-register with Thoughtworks here **[https://g.vkda.co/x/xa1puzPKhHQ8bYRb](https://g.vkda.co/x/xa1puzPKhHQ8bYRb)** We usually have 2 technical talks per meetup. We start at 6pm and will be finished by 8pm. Please note there's a quick electronic sign-in process at Reception when you arrive at the office. Presentation 1 **"Cut dev cycles from hours to seconds"** \- Dan Baker\, MetalBear\. Have you ever made a one line code change and then waited 30 minutes for a CI run to test it in a staging environment? Test changes instantly using mirrord, an open source project that allows you to run code locally, but in the context of a Kubernetes cluster. Presentation 2 **"Terraform vs GitOps - comparing two philosophies of deploying Kubernetes infrastructure."** \- Angus McInnes\, REA\. A Kubernetes-based compute platform involves many interdependent components deployed into a Kubernetes cluster. One approach to deploying such a platform is using Terraform, which tracks dependencies between components and deploys them in the appropriate order. Another approach is to follow a GitOps philosophy, storing Kubernetes manifests in a Git repository and using ArgoCD to continuously synchronise the state of the cluster with the repository. I'll demonstrate and compare these two approaches. If you'd like to present please contact infracoders organisers via Meetup with a * talk topic * one paragraph description * estimate of the time you'll need (20 minutes or shorter is best) As always, please update your RSVP as your availability changes. All venues have space considerations for safety and comfort of Infracoders. Please contact the organisers if you'd like to present a topic relevant to the group or host a meetup at your office.

Over the past 9 years, we’ve removed 342 people (around 0.8%) for breaking them—so please read carefully! ❌ Not a dating group! – We’re here to make connections, not find soulmates. 📵 No phone numbers, please! – Feel free to swap LinkedIn if both parties are cool with it, but please don’t share or ask for phone numbers. Please don’t add people to WhatsApp or other groups. 🔞 Our events are only open to people aged 18 and older. 📢 Please do not advertise other events or groups. 🚗 We don't allow carpooling due to safety incidents/our public liability insurance not covering motor related accidents. 💰 **No sales pitches! – No selling, no MLMs, no pyramid schemes, no “life-changing mentorship” offers—let’s keep things scam-free.** By joining an event, you agree to follow these rules. Wilsons Promontory (4 spots - road trip)
Wilsons Promontory (4 spots - road trip)
[Instagram: Road Trips by The Dancing Voyager: Ron Singh](https://www.instagram.com/the_dancing_voyager_ron_trips) Good weather! Spontaneous day trip to Wilsons Promontory! Very short notice! These are always fun! Over 60 road trips done in 4 years! I run 3 Meetup groups (shown on my profile). This road trip is for people new to Australia who have not been to this location (International Students, Working Holiday Makers and tourists)! No evidence is required. I will trust you! **Details given below in sections: (1) Questions / (2) Road trip itinerary / (3) Payment / (4) Responsibility / (5) Breaks / (6) Weather / (7) Phone charging / (8) Contact** **\-\-\- \(1\) QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS \-\-\-** **Your questions for me:** Why is the total fee so low at $20, covering a new, large rental (SUV), fuel and driver, on something that seems really high quality and well planned, like a private tour company? Sounds too good to be true or that there is a catch. Is this genuine? **My answers to you:** Because this project is my community service to give back. I explain this further below. The low fee is just a formality to confirm your place, so that I know you are serious on attending. This is genuine. Over 60 road trips done in 4 years! I have created precious memories for many people new to Australia. Photos on Instagram link further above. **\-\-\- \(2\) ROAD TRIP SUMMARY AND ITINERARY \-\-\-** Day trip to Wilsons Promontory. This is such a timeless place. The hills and the sea combine to make you reflect about life! **Itinerary: Leongatha - few coastal lookouts - Agnes Falls - enter Wilsons Prom - various scenic stops - Norman Beach - exit Wilsons Prom - scenic lookout - Leongatha (you can swim at the beach or just walk/relax)** **Meeting point: Fed Square, 9:15 am**. Back there by **8:45 pm**. Meet by the steps (main entrance, opposite the Swanston Street tram stop). **\-\-\- \(3\) PAYMENT \-\-\-** **Total fee: $20 in total (no other costs). This covers a new, large rental (SUV), fuel and driver.** **Eventbrite link for payment:** [https://wilsonsprom-road-trip.eventbrite.com.au](https://wilsonsprom-road-trip.eventbrite.com.au/) **Cancellations:** If I cancel the road trip for any unforeseen issues, a full refund will be given. If you cancel, there is no refund. **Why is the fee so low?** The low fee is just a formality. It might sound too good to be true or that there is a catch. There is no catch. I am simply someone who has been giving back for many years. I playfully call this project a “Melbourne travel secret”! There are people in this world who want to genuinely give back without any expectations because they are truly fulfilled and grateful for what they have. I am one of those people. This is my community service. I am not doing this for money and I never have. Money cannot buy passion. The nature of majestic Australia helped me find peace and passion and I want to give back by sharing that inspiring nature with people new to this country. If they are also inspired by that nature, then that is my reward. There is no hidden agenda in doing this project. The reason I am being quite upfront is because in this day and age, there is always a catch when people do something like this. There is none with me and I am not selling or promoting anything. I do not need anything because I have peace, passion and fulfilment. I have everything. I am truly humbled and grateful. Photos from road trips are on Instagram link below: [Instagram: Road Trips by The Dancing Voyager: Ron Singh](https://www.instagram.com/the_dancing_voyager_ron_trips) **\-\-\- \(4\) RESPONSIBILITY\, LIABILITY\, SAFETY \-\-\-** As your driver, I am responsible and liable for your safety while we are in the vehicle. Passengers are insured as per the Australian law. For times we are outside the vehicle, we then become responsible for our own liability and safety, just like every other capable adult in society. **\-\-\- \(5\) BREAKS/MEALS \-\-\-** There will be many breaks for sightseeing/walks. I will stop at places where food/snacks will be sold but you are welcome to bring your own as well. There will be a lunch break at either a cafe or takeaway shop. **\-\-\- \(6\) WEATHER AND WHAT TO WEAR \-\-\-** I plan events when weather looks good but please also see itinerary for location details and check the forecast to dress accordingly. My advice is to always be prepared! Recommend to have something to cover you if rain suddenly appears or if winds suddenly get cool. Also recommend to carry sunscreen and a hat. Please also wear good, comfortable shoes that can provide protection from water (in case there are muddy areas). You can bring many things, as the vehicle will have a lot of storage space. My road trips do not have a lot of long walks. The focus is on sightseeing, relaxing and appreciating the beauty of nature. **\-\-\- \(7\) PHONE CHARGING \-\-\-** Please charge your phone before joining. In the past, people have taken lots of videos and photos and used up their batteries! You can bring your charging cable if you want. The vehicle will have various charging ports. **\-\-\- \(8\) CONTACT \-\-\-** If you need to contact me, please reach out through Meetup, Eventbrite or Instagram. If you wanted my mobile number, please let me know.

Mt Baw Baw Plateau/Walhalla camping weekend
Mt Baw Baw Plateau/Walhalla camping weekend
Join us on a weekend of hiking and camping in Gippsland. It has a toilet but no showers. Fires are allowed except during total fire bans. **Directions to the campground:** From Melbourne, take the Monash Freeway (M1) east toward Gippsland. Exit toward Moe/Trafalgar and follow Moe–Erica Road (C105) through Moe, past Trafalgar, and on toward Rawson. Moe-Erica Road becomes Moe-Rawson Road as you come to the turnoff for Seninis Track. Enjoy ethical wildlife, Chocolatery, the Twelve Apostles and Wildlife Park with snacks, a free drink, instant photo and carbon-offset tree planting This Great Ocean Road day tour is designed for travelers who want more than a standard sightseeing loop. With a maximum of 10 guests, the experience focuses on storytelling, ethical wildlife encounters, honest pricing, and responsible travel. By booking this tour, you support protected wildlife and nature through our tree-planting carbon offset program. Everything listed is included in the price — no hidden fees, no upgrades, and no pressure to spend more during the day. From there, the journey follows the iconic Great Ocean Road, where every stop is tied together with stories rather than scripts. At the Memorial Arch, learn why this road is considered the world’s largest war memorial, built by returned soldiers and shaped by resilience and history. Here, native animals are viewed in a supervised, expert-led environment that prioritizes animal welfare and guest safety. This approach supports conservation education while avoiding uncontrolled interactions with wildlife. Iconic coast, unhurried Feel the scale of the Southern Ocean as you descend the Gibson Steps to sea level. Spend quality time at the Twelve Apostles, with space to explore, photograph, and absorb the scenery without feeling rushed. Designed routes, not repetition The tour travels along the coast on the way out and returns via an inland route, offering different landscapes and a more engaging journey rather than repeating the same road twice. Honest, all-inclusive experience There are no extra charges during the tour. Complimentary snacks, a free drink, and a printed Instax instant photo are included as personal touches. Lunch and dinner are not included by design, allowing flexibility for different dietary needs, preferences, and beliefs. Dale Gnidovec, Curator of the Orton Hall Museum of Geology at The Ohio State University, will be presenting a program he has wanted to share with us for a long time: Plate Tectonics. His description of his program: Continents on the move - Nothing in Earth history makes sense without moving continents - it tells us why mountains, volcanoes, minerals, and fossils are where they are. This talk examines the evidence for continental drift, why it was disbelieved, and explains how the more-encompassing theory of plate tectonics was developed and eventually proven. Dale is an energetic, incredibly knowledgeable, and very entertaining speaker and this will be another wonderful program by Dale. Hope to see you there! Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk. Going forward our meetings will be hybrid. Turning Rentals Into Income: How Investors Pay Off Properties Faster
Turning Rentals Into Income: How Investors Pay Off Properties Faster
#### Turning Rentals Into Income: How Investors Pay Off Properties Faster #### **Featuring Guest Speaker: John Blackburn** **👉 Get your FREE TICKET [HERE](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/turning-rentals-into-income-how-investors-pay-off-properties-faster-tickets-1980492192461?aff=cicmeetupapp)** #### A lot of people get into real estate because they want freedom. Then they buy a rental…and realize most of the rent goes straight to the bank. They technically own property, but the mortgage controls the income. And waiting 30 years for properties to be paid off doesn’t feel realistic. This meetup is about understanding a different way to think about rental properties… one that focuses on paying them off sooner so the income is actually usable. **Featured Guest Speaker: John Blackburn** We’re excited to welcome John Blackburn as our guest speaker for this event. John has been actively investing in real estate since 2006 and has: * Been involved in **5,000+ real estate transactions** * Helped investors **acquire over $150 million in rental property** * **Raised more than $100 million** in private capital John didn’t start with family money or shortcuts. He built his portfolio by focusing on clear systems, real numbers, and long-term strategy. For this meetup, John will walk through how investors shift their focus from simply owning rentals to building properties that eventually pay them…without a mortgage attached. **What You’ll Learn** John will break down, in simple terms: * Why most rental properties don’t produce much usable income early on * Why buying more rentals isn’t always the answer * How investors structure their properties to pay off mortgages in a fraction of the time * How properties can work together to eliminate debt faster * What changes once rentals become free and clear This approach is often referred to as an accelerated paydown strategy — using rental income intentionally to reduce debt sooner, rather than waiting decades for mortgages to run their course. John will also share a simple calculator you can use to see how this works with real numbers and realistic scenarios. **The Core Idea** When a rental has a mortgage, the rent has one job: **pay the bank.** When a rental is paid off, the rent has a different job: **pay you.** Most people only see one timeline…30 years. This session shows how investors shorten that timeline and gradually increase their income as properties become free and clear. **Who This Event Is For** This event is for people who want more than just “owning rentals” on paper. * Rental owners who are tired of most of the rent going to the bank and want a clearer path to real, usable income * New investors who want to understand how rental properties actually build wealth over time before jumping in * People with capital who want to invest in real estate with intention and a long-term plan * Anyone serious about freedom and curious how rental properties transition from debt-heavy assets into income-producing ones **Event Details** **Location:** Ohio Brewing Company - 421 E 2nd Ave, Columbus, OH 43201 **Date & Time:** January 25th, 6–8 PM (Doors open at 5:30) **Cost:** Free (Seats are limited - RSVP required) **👉 Get your FREE TICKET [HERE](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/turning-rentals-into-income-how-investors-pay-off-properties-faster-tickets-1980492192461?aff=cicmeetupapp)** If you’ve ever wondered how rental properties actually turn into freedom —this is the room to be in.
Sunday Board Games at Land-Grant Brewing
Sunday Board Games at Land-Grant Brewing
We'll play board games at the [Land-Grant Brewing Company](https://landgrantbrewing.com/). They have multiple [food trucks](https://landgrantbrewing.com/food/) on Sundays. Ray Ray's also has coffee, and the brewery has free water (and Jeni's ice cream). You can come late or leave early. Please just sign up so I know to expect you. **Notes on Parking** * You'll (probably) have to park on the street, but street parking is free on Sundays. * There are [parking garages](https://landgrantbrewing.com/parking/) a little farther away if you want. These are obviously not free, though. * There is a [lot next door](https://www.google.com/maps/place/39%C2%B057'26.0%22N+83%C2%B000'40.9%22W/@39.957211,-83.0119921,19z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m12!1m7!3m6!1s0x88388f3efd89238b:0xc139207386232411!2sLand-Grant+Brewing+Company!8m2!3d39.9577613!4d-83.011426!16s%2Fg%2F1pzt7t9df!3m3!8m2!3d39.957211!4d-83.011347?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDEyMS4wIKXMDSoKLDEwMDc5MjA3MUgBUAM%3D) to the brewery that you're allowed to park in, but it is not free. I've never parked there, so I don't know anything about rates. (I'm told though that if you eat at Milo's Deli next door to this lot that Milo's will stamp your parking so it's free.) * You're going to see odd signs on [Lucas St](https://www.google.com/maps/place/39%C2%B057'26.1%22N+83%C2%B000'40.3%22W/@39.957256,-83.0124134,19z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m10!1m5!3m4!2zMznCsDU3JzI4LjgiTiA4M8KwMDAnNDEuNSJX!8m2!3d39.957993!4d-83.011536!3m3!8m2!3d39.957256!4d-83.011197?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDEyMS4wIKXMDSoKLDEwMDc5MjA3MUgBUAM%3D) (saying it's a "private street") that will lead you to believe you're not allowed to park there, but you actually are. * Columbus parking cops literally do not work on Sundays. This means that, even if you're driving a non-EV, you can park in the EV spots near the brewery. **Games** I do bring many games, but please bring some of your own as well.
