Lunch at Yiaga
Lunch at Yiaga
Our wonderful host LeAnn held a meal at Yiaga in early November shortly after the restaurant first opened (credit to those diners for the featured photo). For those who missed out, this is your chance to experience Hugh Allen’s new venture (you’ll know his name from Vue de Monde), set in the beautiful Fitzroy Gardens. The restaurant itself is a masterpiece, crafted almost entirely from Australian materials and traditions of local craft. You’ll enjoy a multi-course lunch degustation that celebrates Australia through its farmers, fishers, growers, makers, artists, and creatives. You can read Broadsheet’s write up here: https://www.broadsheet.com.au/featured/yiaga-opens-fitzroy-gardens I’ve booked for 6 Fine Diners to enjoy the set menu at $295 per person for lunch from 12pm on Saturday 10 January. There are options on the day for drink pairings - see the website for more detail on price points for the various matching choices if you are interested.
Join the waitlist to express interest. Once I have names in the waitlist, I’ll send you a ā€˜Meetup Message’ to confirm you have a spot and how to pay. You’ll need to send me $295 to secure your place (the restaurant charges the full menu price for cancellations with less than 72 hrs notice - this will be deducted from your bill when we settle up). Once paid I’ll move you from the waitlist to going. Any dietary requirements must be advised in advance or Yiaga may not be able to accommodate, so please note these when you join the waitlist.
Please check that you don’t have your settings blocking messages; if I can’t contact you I’ll have to move on to the next person. Also if you don’t respond to my message within 3 days, I’ll let you know that I’m offering the seat to the next person on the waitlist.
Thanks and looking forward to trying Yiaga with you!

Southern Cross - Organ Pipes - Sunbury, 53 kms, Beginners
Southern Cross - Organ Pipes - Sunbury, 53 kms, Beginners
Everybody's welcome! Non MBTC members need to join club by the fourth ride with us, ask us how! An easy ride, on this balmy weather, aimed to leisure cyclists mostly on bike paths and quiet suburban streets. Leaving Southern Cross station we'll get on the recently opened Dixon Veloway over Foostcray road, then we'll take the Maribyrnong bike trail that deliver us to the Steely Creek trail, then on to the Taylors Creek trail. Following this, we get for a couple of kilometres into the busy Calder Highway to arrive to the Organ Pipes National Park, we may need to lock our bikes, then walk to see the rock formations. Continuing on we'll deviate for a couple of k's to check the site of the Sunbury Festival held here in the mid-70's, there is also a commemorative plaque in honour of Billy Thorpe and The Aztecs. Trains from Sunbury station every 40 minutes or so. In the event of extreme temperature, over 30 deg C, we'll ABANDON the ride and look for a rail station to go back home! Please bring your own food, drinks and plenty of water for the day. Ride end time is a guesstimate only. Check route here (give or take a couple of wrong turns): https://ridewithgps.com/routes/53649754 Early lunch at the 24 k mark, at Keilor Village, many choices. The route is 100% sealed, and the terrain is pretty easy to navigate with no climbs. So bring your, in good condition, bike, we suggest 32+ mm tires. We'll keep a steady pace, stopping often to regroup. No one left behind policy applies, but you need to keep yourself properly fueled and hydrated through the ride. RIDE REGISTRATION FORM This is to be completed when you RSVP and can be found at: [www.mbtc.org.au/registration-forms-rider](www.mbtc.org.au/registration-forms-rider). ESSENTIAL ITEMS Functioning front & tail light, spare tube and a puncture kit MYKI card, ATM card/cash, basic tools, rain gear, etc. Suncream; sunglasses; lip balm; hat brim; etc. Check your app for any changes the day before a the ride, as the ride may be cancelled in the event of extreme weather or other unforeseen circumstances. When I RSVP for this event/activity I acknowledge that the activity of bicycle riding can be dangerous and that I may suffer loss or injury or death and I agree that in consideration of my participation in any event conducted by the MBTC that I will absolve from liability the MBTC, its officers, and any event organiser from all claims, demands, or suits whether for personal injury or property loss suffered whether by negligence or breach of contract or otherwise, save for any right I may have pursuant to the Australian Consumer law. Mindful Walk/Movement in Yarra Bend Forest + Lunch
Mindful Walk/Movement in Yarra Bend Forest + Lunch
This is a weekly event for our community to meet in-person at the beautiful Yarra Bend forest for some inspiring mindful walking and movement. We do this movement practice online twice each weekday (7am and 7pm) - but this is our community's chance to meet up in real life! Specifically the practice is called Good Vibrancy and is a fairly concise 30-minute practice involving a sequence of... \- Breath\-work for inspiration \- Movement for grace \- Compassion for love/gratitude \- Mindfulness for balance \- Visualisation for intention \- Qi Gong for abundance It is designed to align one's whole self (mind, body, spirit) around one's higher ideals - for example freedom and abundance. This not only feels amazing but also, over time, will make success a simple and straight-forward choice - because limitations, distractions and complications will become increasingly irrelevant. If this is your first time doing the practice you will likely feel highly elated from engaging with your fullest self (perhaps for the first time - and on a public beach). This is not a bad thing it's just part of the process of starting a new practice - stick with it and you will feel grounded and refreshed. The visualisation part (Life Visualisation) involves reimagining your past "story" and future "script". So please have a general idea of your ideal life/future in mind and note that if you have unresolved trauma it's not a good time to delve into that aspect of your past. The compassion part of the practice (Heart Invocation) involves a short/silent/personal prayer (because this is an effective method of tuning into abundant, universal love) - if you don't want to pray you can sit this part out but please respect other peoples' choice to pray. Perhaps around 11.45am we will go to Studley Park Boathouse for lunch for about 45-min - if you are attending lunch please purchase a beverage or something to eat! Thanks

Our January program is privileged to have Kristen Tregar as our speaker. Ms. Tregar is the co-author with John de Lancie (the actor who portrayed the character Q on Star Trek next generation) of a radio play depicting the events surrounding the Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District trial. The trial decided the issue of some of the Dover school district board members attempting to insert creationism disguised as "intelligent design" into the 9th grade biology curriculum. She will discuss the trial and the process of writing the play. (Bob Leonhard has seen the play and it is riveting and tense). Ms. Tregar's bio is below: Kristen Tregar is a dramaturg, director, playwright, and theatre teacher. She earned her Ph.D. in Drama and Theatre from the UC San Diego and UC Irvine joint program. In addition, she has a MS in Forensic Science from City University of New York- John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a MA in Educational Theatre from New York University- Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. In 2013, in collaboration with Irish colleagues, she founded *The Ireland Project*, an intercontinental devised theatre work with high school students in New York and Tallaght, Ireland. Her original short story "Far From Here" was recently published in *Stay Awhile Longer: More Scenes From Temecula Valley*. She has two rescued dogs (Kira and Harry) and she rides, competes, and foxhunts with her horses, Andromache and Baker Street Irregular. Food and drinks will be provided at the event.
