**Hike: Hike Junk Peak and Lung Ha Wan Country Trail** **STOP! Before you click "Attend,” please read the full event description carefully. This hike is not suitable for beginners. If you sign up and later decide not to join, please cancel as early as possible. Last-minute cancellations (within 24 hours) prevent others from having the chance to participate, and you will be marked as a NO-SHOW.** **Difficulty Level:** 3.5 out of 5 **Distance:** 12 km (approximate) **Time:** 5 hours **Description:** Join us for an all-day hike as we tackle High Junk Peak and Lung Ha Wan Peak (both around 344 m). This hike is rated 3.5/5 in difficulty, so please come prepared and ready to maintain a brisk pace without assistance. Along the way, you’ll enjoy sweeping views of Port Shelter, Clear Water Bay, Po Toi O, Shelter Island, Jin Island, Basalt Island, Green Egg Island, and even the Ninepin Group. We’ll also pass through Tai Hang Tun Park, which features a kite-flying area—hopefully we’ll catch colorful kites in all shapes and sizes dancing in the sky! Before finishing, we’ll visit the Lung Ha Wan Rock Carving, an ancient relic with bird and geometric patterns dating back about 3,000 years. **What to bring:** * 2-3 liters of water (water available for sale along the way) * Snacks to eat along the way (sandwich, fruits, nuts, etc) * Comfortable shoes * Sunglasses * Headgear (cap/hat) * Sunscreen * Bug Spray * In case of Rain: plan accordingly **Toilets:** There are 3-4 along the way; however, I do not know if they will be in service. **Stores:** There are places at the beginning and at the end of the trail. It is best to come prepared with water and snacks. **Meeting Point:** Hang Hau MTR Station - B2. Once everyone arrives, we'll transfer to Bus 16 and alight at Pui Shing Road; outside Po Leung Kuk Fung Ching Memorial Primary School. **Time:** 10:00 am (SHARP!) **IMPORTANT:** Out of respect to the members that arrive on time, we will only be able to wait a maximum of 5 minutes. If you can't make the hike, we should be there by noon. **How to find our starting point in Big Meadows:** If you are new to Highbanks, the Big Meadows picnic area is 1.5 miles into the park just after you turn into the park off of U.S. Route 23. That is, after you enter the park, drive a mile and a half into the park. You will come to a crosswalk with a yield sign in the middle of it (this is not to be confused with the first such crosswalk you come to just in front of the Nature Center, which you arrive at maybe a quarter of a mile into the park). Just after this second crosswalk, make a left. Then make another almost immediate left into the parking lot on your left. There you will see the jungle gym and the kiddie zip line to your left. I will be just in front of the restrooms just a bit further down from the jungle gym and picnic shelter; the restroom building will also be on your left.

We'll play board games at the [Land-Grant Brewing Company](https://landgrantbrewing.com/). The brewery has multiple [food trucks](https://landgrantbrewing.com/food/) on Sundays, including [Ray Ray's Hog Pit](https://rayrayshogpit.com/franklinton), [Buck City Sammies](https://www.buckcitysammies.com/menu), and [Hai Poké](https://www.haipokefoodtruck.com/). The brewery also has (passable) drip coffee, free water, and Jeni's ice cream. You can also walk over to the [Land Grant Extension](https://callinyourbluffcoffee.com/) for "real" coffee. (You may have to stand in line, though. The Extension is popular.) You can come late or leave early. Please just sign up so I know to expect you. **Notes on Parking** * You'll (probably) have to park on the street, but street parking is free on Sundays. * There are [parking garages](https://landgrantbrewing.com/parking/) a little farther away if you want.
