***The Fitzroy Tavern Edition*** ALTERNATIVE PLATFORM FOR BOOKINGS: **EVENTBRITE** (link below) Start your public speaking journey with us. Like a lot of people, weโ€™ve had our own battles with public speaking. Thatโ€™s exactly why this group exists. Itโ€™s for anyone who wants a place to start, people who want to keep practising, and those who just need a friendly audience to try things out. We grow at our own pace and build confidence in a relaxed, safe and supportive space. Youโ€™ll meet like-minded people, make new connections, and steadily get more comfortable speaking in front of others. Thereโ€™s no judgement here. Itโ€™s just space for people to be themselves. We know thereโ€™s no single โ€œrightโ€ way to speak in public. Whether youโ€™re prepping for presentations, interviews, a best man speech, handling social situations, or simply getting more comfortable saying what you think, youโ€™re welcome to explore your own style and find what feels natural to you here. PS Free event. Groups are kept small so everyone gets plenty of stage time, usually no more than 10โ€“15 people. The pub kindly lets us use their space, so if you fancy it, feel free to grab a drink (or just a soft drink ) while youโ€™re here. When nothing happens: Bayesian approaches to testing for "no effect"
When nothing happens: Bayesian approaches to testing for "no effect"
**When nothing happens: Bayesian approaches to testing for "no effect"** We are delighted to have Mircea Zloteanu for the first Bayesian Mixer of 2026, please register here: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/bayesianmixer/2066946 **Abstract:** Non-significant p-values do not constitute evidence for the absence of an effect, yet researchers often wish to make claims about โ€œno difference.โ€ Often this will lead to publications that make incorrect statements (i.e., claim no difference when the data is just uncertain) or even deter researchers from pursuing specific hypotheses or publish their work. This talk presents Bayesian alternatives for evaluating null results. First, I demonstrate Bayes Equivalence Tests for interval (composite) hypotheses. Second, I illustrate the default Bayesian t-test method relying on model comparison (using the JZS Bayes factor), showing how routine analyses can quantify evidence for or against a point null. Third, I introduce posterior-based equivalence testing using the Region of Practical Equivalence (ROPE) via bayestestR. Together, these approaches provide principled tools for publishing credible null findings. **Bio:** Mircea Zloteanu is a Lecturer in Psychology and Criminology at Kingโ€™s College London, where his focus is on Research Methods and Statistics. He received his PhD in Experimental Psychology from University College London and has previously held posts at UCL, Teesside University, and Kingston University. His recent work focuses on meta-research, statistical methodology, and improving research practice, with particular emphasis on Bayesian methods, equivalence testing, and transparent reporting. Mircea is actively involved in the open science movement as UK Reproducibility Network Local Co-Lead and a member of ReproducibiliTea, promoting reproducible, rigorous, and cumulative psychological science.

Soul Choir and Band
Soul Choir and Band
We're back - after a summer break - and we want more voices and more instruments for our workshops and for our next public performance (optional, no pressure - but I know you'll love it). Ideal entry for singers new to our workshops. Classic Soul songs in full vocal arrangements with live band. Let's bring the backgrounds to the foreground (where they belong) and put them on an equal footing with the lead vocals. Visit the "Thursday" page of our new spreadsheet to see vacancies, current members, current repertoire, and to make and see suggestions for new repertoire: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Zb1cMKrOMDvxacsw9AoRRstkx-M7r_NIrF4tZJIREU0/edit?usp=sharing This is for you if you are: โ€ข a backing vocalist โ€ข a lead vocalist โ€ข a backing vocalist who wants to develop their lead vocal skills โ€ข a lead vocalist who wants to develop their backing vocal skills โ€ข a singer who wants to develop their percussion skills โ€ข a musician who wants to accompany singers and support them โ€ข a musician who wants to develop their own vocal skills โ€ข a guitarist, keyboard player, bass player, drummer, horn player, string player, percussionist Use your existing skills and develop new ones. The Soul repertoire offers an incredibly rich variety of vocal combinations. We will be able to choose songs to suit whatever combination of leads and backing vocals we get. Have fun singing essential, but often neglected elements of the arrangements. Vocal backgrounds play an important role in Soul - using call-and-response; creating variety of texture; defining sections of the song; differentiating repeats of the same section; building excitement. The workshop will be led by Andy Dummett. Andy has been privileged to play with many of the great singers, songwriters and musicians from Stax, Atlantic, Motown and more The way we use the studio has changed. This should be reassuring for those who are hesitant or cautious. Husky is a very Covid-secure venue and itโ€™s important that all our members are protected, especially the most vulnerable. I would not be starting up again if I wasnโ€™t confident in their procedures. Full details are available on the studioโ€™s website: https://www.huskystudios.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Husky-Studios-Coronavirus-COVID-19-customer-guide.pdf Please read it all. Itโ€™s too long for me to copy it all here, but Iโ€™d like to draw your attention to some of the main points. ยท Wear a mask when you come in ยท Use the hand sanitiser at the entrance ยท Bring your own hand sanitiser for use in the room ยท Bring spare masks if you need them (they are available from the office โ€“ but for ยฃ5 each!) ยท Let me know youโ€™re coming. If Iโ€™m expecting you, let me know if youโ€™re not coming. ยท Let me have your phone number AND postcode for NHS Test & Trace ยท Microphones will be available and will have been disinfected. There is a deposit of ยฃ5 per mic, refunded on return ยท Microphone cables are not available. If you need to use a mic, please bring your own cable These workshops can support what you do in your own bands and in band workshops run by the Institute of Rhythm & Blues (http://www.meetup.com/London-Institute-of-Rhythm-Blues-Meetup/) Please check the studio's website for the latest Covid procedures: https://www.huskystudios.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Husky-Studios-Coronavirus-COVID-19-customer-guide.pdf Fees: Per session (drop-in): ยฃ15 Your fees include the group's costs for rehearsal studio rental and hire of mic's, PA, bass amp, guitar amps and drum kit. We will work towards a public performance. Shanty Singing on the Golden Hinde ship- London Bridge
Shanty Singing on the Golden Hinde ship- London Bridge
The Golden Hinde was first English Ship to sail around the world, captained by Sir Francs Drake in the Elizabethan era. Besides hearing us, and joining in singing the choruses, you can also explore the ship. And for your further convenience, there is an on board bar with wine and beer at pub prices, and a flushing WC or two. We have been performing here for a year. All these events sold out weeks before we performed. We have had top class guests who were lively, and all joined in singing the choruses, Tickets are ยฃ10 plus booking fee, and the link is below. The ship is currently in dry dock undergoing hull maintenance, and you can reach it by going to London Bridge Underground station, and from there it's five minute walk walk through Borough Market. And, by the way, in 1975, this ship sailed from Devon to San Francisco, and from there onto Japan, where is starred in the original film production of Shogun Below is the ticket link to Eventbrite for Wednesday 11th March- ยฃ10 plus 10% booking fee [https://www.eventbrite.com/e/shanty-singers-of-colliers-wood-on-the-golden-hinde-tickets-1966033663612](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/shanty-singers-of-colliers-wood-on-the-golden-hinde-tickets-1966033663612?aff=oddtdtcreator)

CBusData - Discover the Power of Window Functions
CBusData - Discover the Power of Window Functions
Window functions have nothing to do with the Windows operating system but provide a โ€œwindowโ€ to a result set when used in SQL queries. They are powerful, set-based methods to view data in unexpected ways. Window functions provide easy, set-based solutions to solve some common problems: * Using running totals * Performing operations in intervals * Identifying data gaps and islands * Performing aggregates without losing detail Many people are confused by window functions and do not know how to use them properly. This session will explore window functions, how they work, and how to use them. Demonstrations with several examples will solidify how window functions can simplify queries and make them more powerful.

Shut Up & Write!ยฎ Easton Town Center
We'll meet at The Capital One Cafรฉ, 167 Easton Town Center, Space A-103. This is in the main mall where the Microsoft store used to be, on your left if you're standing at the bottom of the AMC Theater escalator. Join us on Sunday for an hour of uninterrupted wordmaking! โ€ข What we'll do Join us for an hour of writing! Weโ€™ve discovered that itโ€™s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if itโ€™s true for you at noon on Sundays. Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. SCHEDULE: 12:00 - quick intros. 12:10 - timer starts: write for 1 hour. 1:10 - chat / take off / keep writing. OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens at 1-1:30ish. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing. BEING LATE IS OKAY: just show up and get settled, then check-in with me after the session. If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer. Happy writing and I look forward to seeing you! โ€ข What to bring Whatever you need to be able to write! Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block noise or the occasional conversation by other patrons. Electrical outlets are limited, so charge your devices before whenever possible. See you at The Cafรฉ on Sunday!

Dance with us in the afternoon then you can still go out in the evening! **Sponsor: All Soles Contra and Square Dancing, First Unitarian Universalist Church, 93 W. Weisheimer Rd., Columbus OH 43214** WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like youโ€™ve seen in period films such as โ€œPride and Prejudiceโ€, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. Thatโ€™s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like โ€œswing your partnerโ€ and โ€œdo-si-do,โ€ like youโ€™ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alรก โ€œRiverdance.โ€ Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THATโ€™s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor. Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 1:30 - 2:00, followed by dancing 2:00 - 430. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner. Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot. Please bring your own refillable water bottle.

Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast. Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect. The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!
