Let's meet up and sing some great music!!!
Always wanted to sing but worried about performing in public? Looking for a group to help coach and support your singing at all levels...? Want to learn more about music technique and sight singing while having fun at the same time? Then London Sings! is the group for you. London Sings! is a no audition local community choir which is big in personality and looking to grow. We cater both for experienced singers and those fairly new to singing, with plenty of opportunities for interesting performances. We are even planning a trip to Madrid this year! We sing a wide variety of pieces ranging from jazz and musical theatre to classical, and from unison through to four part harmony, while having a lot of fun in the process. We rehearse every Monday evening , starting at 19:30 and finishing at 21:30 (with a break for snacks and chat obviously!). Rehearsals are held at Mostyn Road Methodist Church, Mostyn Road at St Lawrence Way, London, SW9 6PH. You are welcome to drop in any Monday evening, but for more information, please do not hesitate to contact us on chair@londonsings.org.uk or by telephone on 07785 905355 For further details about the group and our fellow ensembles in South London Community Music, visit http://www.londonsings.org.uk/
Life class for painters
Life class for painters
Life drawing classes tend to involve short poses which seldom allow time for painters to adjust their paintings sufficiently. In this class we will work with a life model who will take a single pose for the two hours each week, giving us more time to adjust and correct our paintings. Artists of all levels are welcome to attend, but this is a self directed class and no tuition will normally be given. Please bring your own water-based painting material such as acrylics, gouache or watercolours as the room is not equipped for oil-based paints. There is a sink in the kitchen adjoining the studio room where water can be obtained. The two hour session will start at 2.30pm and end at 4.30pm with a 15 minute tea break at 3.30pm. Newington Green Meeting House is an historic Unitarian Chapel situated on the North side of Newington Green. Access to the class will be by the side door; please ring the bell when you arrive. The charge for the class is £10.
Iranian Women’s Voices
Iranian Women’s Voices
*Writers Mosaic* presents an evening of conversation, poetry, film and music with writers **Marjorie Lotfi**, **Sana Nassari** and **Shara Atashi** and Iranian musicians, as well as the extraordinary photography of **Hengameh Golestan**, which documents women protesting the oppression of the Iranian authorities. For generations and with great courage, women in Iran have protested against the restrictions imposed on them. The chants of ‘Women, Life, Freedom’ have never diminished. In the new publication *[Iranian Women’s Voices](https://writersmosaic.org.uk/limited-series/iranian-womens-voices/iranian-womens-voices/)*, creative women from Iran and the diaspora reflect on art, the constraints of present-day Iran and dreams for the future, inspired by the ‘The Rebel Poet of Iran’, filmmaker [Forough Farrokhzad](http://farrokhzadpoems.com/) (1934–1967). We’ll hang around after the event for a chit chat. Spotlight: Showbiz, Music, Film, TV, Media, Theatre & Radio Walkin Tour + Drinks
If you’re artistic and creative — or were always that kid who dreamed of working in exciting sexi professional worlds of entertainment, fashion, music or the performing arts — then this one’s exclusively for you! An insider showbiz and entertainment walk led by someone who’s lived inside the industry - a radio music founder, presentator and club DJ, a former Correspondent for a global News Agency bigger than the BBC, an advertising / media agency exe, a red-carpet luxury fashion brand strategist and a failed boy band muscian (I still got the spiked hair!). So you can expect stories to be told with real passion, authenticity, personality and first hand knowledge... This 90 mins backstage wander will take you straight through London’s creative arts & entertainment industry showbiz bloodstream. We’re talking live broadcasting nerve centres, global pop stars, legendary stages, Hollywood hideouts, iconic comedy clubs, ad agencies that won general elections, recording studios, fashion designers, radio powerhouses, and the secret corners where reputations are negotiated over overpriced cocktails — all set against the music soundtrack of a city that’s launched everything from Britpop to boybands to global club culture. You’ll hear where the UK’s biggest radio stations broke chart‑toppers annd turned unknowns into global popstars, where stars of the film and stage made their name, how certain streets shaped entire genres, how comedians went from dingy basements to national treasures, and why London’s music scene has always been the city’s loudest, messiest, most influential creative engine in the world This free tour will unapologetically appeal to: * **Pop‑culture lovers** who treat celebrity interviews and album drops like sacred texts * **Creatives & media people** who love a bit of insider sparkle and know the difference between a PR stunt and a genuine cultural moment * **Culture lovers** who collect fun facts from music, film, art and can name their favourite live performance of all time * **People working in or consuming** **films, theatre, radio, music, comedy, TV, dance, media, advertising**, **performing arts** and everything in between * Anyone craving something different yet authentic, fun with just the right amount of chaos Expect a crowd that gets excited about the things normal people pretend not to care about — iconic ad campaigns, legendary performances, scandalous headlines, radio gossip, film magic, music history, and the beautiful mess of how culture actually gets made. You’ll walk, you’ll laugh, you’ll learn things you absolutely did not expect, and you’ll leave feeling like you’ve unlocked a secret level of London — the one where the stories, the scandals, and the soundtracks all collide Lucas — The Entertainment Mongul

Art Exhibition & Performance—Arash Nassiri
This is a free event that requires reservation: [https://chisenhale.org.uk/whats-on/live-programme-iii/](https://chisenhale.org.uk/whats-on/live-programme-iii/) In [A Bug’s Life](https://chisenhale.org.uk/project/arash-nassiri-2/)*,* a moving image installation by Tehran-born, Berlin-based artist [Arash Nassiri](https://www.instagram.com/arash.nassiri/?hl=en), viewers are taken through a Beverly Hills mansion evoking the ostentatious, neoclassical style favoured by Los Angeles’ Iranian diaspora in the 1980s-90s. Shot from the viewpoint of an insect puppet voiced by Nassiri’s mother, the film continues a body of work interrogating architecture, space, memory and migration, as well as the fading aesthetics of a lost urban life. The film will be shown as part of his first institutional solo exhibition at London’s Chisenhale Gallery. ## Readings & Performance The third of three nights curated by writer, researcher, and radio host Nihal El Aasar in response to Nassiri’s new commission. London-based contributors will join Nihal for an exploration of memory and political resonance through words and sound. Speak Easy (Storytelling)
Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for March is "Our Bodies, Ourselves" Speak Easy: true stories, told live. The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast. Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect. The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!
Art Night - Bring Your Own Work
Art Night - Bring Your Own Work
Welcome to the Art School - 20's & 30's artists Meetup group! This is a community for young artists who are passionate about exploring different mediums and techniques in the world of art. Whether you're a painter, sculptor, photographer, or mixed media artist, this group is the perfect place to connect with like-minded individuals, have a space to work on your craft, and showcase your work. Let's inspire and support each other on our artistic journeys! Whether you're a novice or a seasoned artist, all skill levels are welcome. Join us and unleash your creativity! This month we will be discussing **Frank Santoro**, an American cartoonist, painter, and comics critic known for his expressive lines, experimental page layouts, and vibrant use of color. His graphic novels—including *Storeyville*, *Pompeii*, and *Pittsburgh*—blend personal storytelling with innovative visual structure, often exploring memory, place, and relationships. In addition to his comics, Santoro has been an influential voice in comics education and criticism, co-founding the magazine *ComicsComics* and creating the **Santoro Correspondence Course for Comic Book Makers**, which has helped train and inspire a new generation of cartoonists. Afterwards, we will have time to work on our individual art projects, hang out, and if anyone is interested in feedback on their work, there will be time for that as well.
