A Sci Fi/Fantasy Feedback Session
Join us at Craft Beer Co. Brixton for our structured Sci-Fi & Fantasy Feedback Session. A supportive, focused space where writers can share their work and receive constructive, thoughtful critique.
These sessions are designed not only to help authors refine their writing but also to strengthen our community. Giving feedback is as valuable as receiving it: by learning to critique effectively, we sharpen our own editorial instincts and deepen our understanding of craft.
Whether you’re submitting work or attending as a reader, this is a collaborative, growth-focused environment.
**FOR THOSE SUBMITTING WORK**
**We allow up to 4 people to submit their work** **for feedback. In order to submit please RSVP and send your submission to** **scififantasyauthors@gmail.com no later than the Sunday prior to the session** to give organisers time to review submissions and arrange critique groups in advance. *Priority for submission slots is given to those who have attended a previous session.*
To ensure quality and fairness, submission guidelines are as follows:
* **A short introduction (2–3 paragraphs max.) explaining:**
* The context and status of the piece (early draft? polished?)
* What kind of feedback you’re looking for
* **An excerpt (chapter or short story) of up to 3,000 words**
* +10% flexibility allowed
* Strict cut-off beyond that
**FOR THOSE PROVIDING FEEDBACK**
* Please RSVP and read the “How to Give Feedback” document that will be shared prior to attending.
* Bring a device suitable for reading the submitted piece
* There is no expectation to read anything in advance. All reading takes place during the session itself. We begin with dedicated silent reading time, ensuring that everyone engages with the piece equally and no one feels pressure to prepare outside the session. Just show up ready to read, think, and contribute.
**SCHEDULE**
Attendees will be placed into small critique groups of 5–6 people, each with an experienced facilitator to guide discussion and manage time.
**6:30–6:45pm** – Arrival, drinks & group seating
**6:45–7:30pm** – Silent reading & note-taking
**7:30–8:00pm** – Structured feedback delivery
**8:00–8:30pm** – Open roundtable discussion & author questions
Each participant will have up to 5 minutes to share feedback during the structured critique section. Authors listen without interruption, with space for clarifying questions later in the roundtable.
Whether you’re looking to polish a chapter, test an opening, or strengthen
your editorial instincts, these sessions are an opportunity to grow together.
RSVP early, as places are limited to ensure productive group sizes. If you can no longer attend, please update your RSVP.

Sweeney Todd Tour - Fleet Street Terror
Fleet Street in London has a grim history - it is named after the River Fleet , one of London's filthiest and most dangerous rivers. Dickens based Fagin's lair along the river in "Oliver Twist" . The river has long since disappeared but the legends remain , including the tale of a bloody barber and his murderous assistant.
Join actor and tour guide Nick Richmond for a dark journey through the bloody streets of London in search of Sweeney Todd, tracing his Victorian roots in the Penny Dreadful's to the musical version by Sondheim and the Tim Burton film from 2007. This is an adult themed tour and may not be suitable for younger children or those of a nervous disposition. You have been warned !
Tickets are £10 and we meet at the North entrance of Blackfriars station

*Join Elena at her atelier on the Thames for a creative writing collage experience.*
Connect with forgotten stories and uncover hidden narratives from within.
Explore creative writing through text collage. Cut, rearrange, and transform found words into new narratives, shaping unexpected connections into your own original piece.
This hands-on process bypasses the pressure of writing from scratch, opening space for discovery, play, and personal insight.
Fragments become portals to echoes of memory, imagination, and new worlds.
In this words cloud collage workshop, you’ll be guided through a creative process that combines writing and visual composition. We begin with a short meditation and breathing practice to settle the mind. You’ll then be provided with magazines, newspapers, 30 x 30 cm white cardstock or A3 coloured paper card, scissors, and glue — everything you need.
With gentle guidance, you’ll create your own collage of words, allowing meaning to emerge intuitively as you work.
If you feel comfortable, at the end of the workshop, you’ll have the opportunity to share your piece with the group, if you wish, and we can enjoy a brief moment of collective reflection.
**No prior experience needed — beginner-friendly**
**All materials included**
**Step-free access**

Write-in at the Mitre: work on your own material in convivial company
**We will be at The Mitre pub in central Greenwich.**
**This meetup will start half an hour earlier than usual, as we need to finish half an hour earlier to give the pub the room back for another meeting.**
This meetup is free and casual. We just sit around for a few hours and write together. Bring a laptop, or use a pen and paper or clay tablet and stylus if that's what works for you.
The structure of the session is roughly:
2pm: chat
2:20–3:25: writing time
3:25: chat/coffee break
3:40–4:45 writing time
4:45: chat
But our Saturdays are very casual, so feel free to drop in and out.
**This is usually in the meeting room at the Mitre. If you arrive a bit later, you may need to ask the bar staff to show you through to the room.**

The Story So Far: A WiA Reflection Circle
A WiA Collective Wisdom Exchange
At the start of this year, we gathered to look back, set intentions, and imagine the next chapter.
This is the follow-up.
Not a check-in. Not a progress report. A small, facilitated circle to reconnect with what you said mattered — and honestly explore what’s actually happening now.
Together, we’ll explore:
• What you intended at the start of this year - and what that looks like three months in
• What’s surprised you, supported you, or shifted
• What the next chapter needs now that you know what you know
If you were at our January gathering, bring whatever you made or wrote — your word, your artifact, your intention. We’ll look at it with fresh eyes. If this is your first time, you belong here too. You’ll start where we all started: with what’s true right now.
Optional art materials will be available for anyone who wants to reflect creatively alongside conversation. If you brought something home from January, you’re warmly invited to bring it back.
The intention is the same as always: everyone leaves feeling more clear, more connected, and a little lighter.
Space is intentionally limited to keep the experience intimate.
What to Expect
• A small, welcoming circle (not a large meetup)
• Structured conversation so everyone has space to speak
• Reflection, listening, and lived experience — not advice-giving
• Optional creative reflection alongside conversation
• A calm, supportive environment
Who This Is For
Women and underrepresented folks working in or around agile, product, technology, leadership, or organizational change — especially those looking for honest conversation and community beyond frameworks and buzzwords.
Good to Know
• No preparation required
• If you attended in January, we invite you to bring anything you created or wrote (or something that represents your intention at the start of the year) - it’s optional but invited
• Participation is invitational; listening is always welcome
• Creative activities are optional

Pop-up Book Club 3: The Ballad of The Sad Café, by Carson McCullers
Let’s meet and share our thoughts about Carson McCullers’ novella, The Ballad of The Sad Café.
Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for May is "Ink"
Speak Easy: true stories, told live.
The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast.
Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect.
The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!
Shut Up & Write!® East Side Columbus
Join us for an hour of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at 7:00pm on Wednesday, April 22 at Streetlight Guild.
Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.
**SCHEDULE:**
6:45ish - Quick introductions
7:00 - Timer starts: write for 1 hour
8:00 - The End
**OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING** happens before and after the writing hour. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing.

* **WIFI/OUTLETS:** Outlets are limited, so please ensure your devices are charged when you come! But Streetlight Guild does have free WiFi! Yay!
