But look closer, and it gets complicated fast. Some people perform confidence so well they convince everyone around them — including themselves. Others are quietly certain of who they are, but would never show it. And most of us sit somewhere in between, wondering if what we feel is real or just a mask we've gotten used to wearing. Is confidence something you build — or something you fake until it sticks ? Is it about what you've achieved, or about something deeper that has nothing to do with success ? And here's the real question : if no one was watching, would you still feel confident ? **The questions we'll explore 💬** 🔹 Can you fake confidence long enough until it becomes real — or are you just lying to yourself ? 🔹 If confidence comes from success, what do you do before your first success ? 🔹 Is a confident person just someone who's better at hiding their doubts ? 🔹 Is confidence something you earn — or something you discover ? 🔹 Do we need other people's validation to feel confident — or is that just weakness ? 🔹 Is humility the opposite of confidence — or its highest form ? 🔹 If you were confident but completely alone, with no one to witness it — would it even matter ? Pour notre rencontre de juin, nous lisons l'oeuvre du l'auteur yougoslave Ivo Andric, prix Nobel de littérature en 1961, *Le Pont sur la Drina*. A Visegrad, c'est sur le pont reliant les deux rives de la Drina - mais aussi la Serbie et la Bosnie, l'Orient et l'Occident - que se concentre depuis le XVIe siècle la vie des habitants, chrétiens, juifs, musulmans de Turquie ou " islamisés ". C'est là que l'on palabre, s'affronte, joue aux cartes, écoute les proclamations des maîtres successifs du pays, Ottomans puis Austro-Hongrois. C'est la chronique de ces quatre siècles que le grand romancier yougoslave Ivo Andriécï, prix Nobel de littérature en 1961, nous rapporte ici, mêlant la légende à l'histoire, la drôlerie à l'horreur, faisant revivre mille et un personnages : de Radisav le Serbe empalé par le gouverneur turc, à Fata qui se jette du pont pour éviter un mariage forcé, et au vieil Ali Hodja, le Turc traditionaliste, qui voit avec consternation surgir les troupes de l'empereur François-Joseph. En 1914, le pont endommagé dans une explosion demeure debout. Sinistre présage, cependant, grâce auquel ce roman paru en 1945, oeuvre d'un écrivain bosniaque par sa naissance, croate par son origine et serbe par ses engagements d'alors, nous paraît aujourd'hui mystérieusement prophétique. I have been studying the question of "self" online with Prof. Ellie Anderson and so I thought a prompt on the "self" might be interesting. Full confession: I had Claude create this prompt and I like it, so here goes: Imagine a thought experiment that merges two classic puzzles: > You undergo a procedure, performed neuron by neuron, in which every biological component of your brain is replaced with a functionally identical synthetic substitute. At each step, your behavior, memories, and personality remain unchanged. When the last neuron is swapped, is the consciousness experiencing the world still you? And — more pressingly — was there ever a continuous "you" to begin with? ### Questions to Wrestle With * If consciousness is purely physical, does the *gradual* nature of the replacement matter, or is it equivalent to being destroyed and rebuilt? * Could there be a "self" without continuity of experience — even moment to moment, while you sleep? On a more practical level, consider the simpler case first: **hemispherectomy** patients — people who have had an entire cerebral hemisphere surgically removed — often retain a strong sense of personal identity and continuity. This suggests "you" are not rigidly tied to specific physical material. But does that vindicate the synthetic neuron case, or merely show that identity is more *flexible* than we thought — not that it can survive *complete* substrate replacement? In this demonstration Rachel and I show ways to use bondage elements in an artistic way. We explore the types of accessories that work best in artistic images and the best way to photograph them. Our model is Rachel Adams, an internationally known fetish model with many years of experience in this genre.
