You're walking onto the field at a Washington Nationals game on June 14th to sing the Star-Spangled Banner with about 50 other guys. Interested? We rehearse every Monday night in DC. Doesn't matter if you've sung your whole life or haven't sung since high school. Doesn't matter if you've been told you're tone deaf. Show up Monday and surprise yourself. Here's what to expect when you walk in: * A warm welcome and a name tag. You'll know somebody within five minutes. * Free voice coaching from me. Breath, tone, range, the stuff that makes you sound better fast. * We'll teach you the anthem in four-part harmony. You'll be standing next to a guy who's been doing this for years. Hello again! After a long hiatus, the Monday meet up at Nanny O’Briens is back! We’ll have some games to play, but feel free to bring your favorites as well. Stop by for a game and a drink, and say hello! We’ll be in the back room. Other info: Nanny O'Brien's is allowing us to use their back room for some board game socializing. Please reciprocate their generosity by purchasing food and drinks. Free street parking starts at 6:30 in most areas (make sure to read the signs). If you're taking the metro, take the red line to Cleveland Park and walk two blocks southwest on Connecticut (we are located next to CVS).

Join us between 6:00 and 9:30 to play nontraditional board games at Brew Belly restaurant in Olney, MD. Some games will be provided but please do bring along games you are interested in playing! The start time is 6:00 pm. Typically attendees will begin splitting off for their first game by 6:15, but this can vary. RSVPs let us know who to look out for, and if you will be arriving much after 6:15-6:30, shoot us a message in the event chat. That will let us know if we are slower to split off or to start with a quicker game so you can get gaming sooner when you arrive! Do you want to get better at playing with others in open-ended jam situations? Tired of playing things the same way every time? Join us as we open the door to freedom of expression using improvisation. On the 3rd Monday of every month guitarist, teacher and artful improviser Luke Chohany takes students a deep dive into spontaneous music-making. This class is about listening, finding the pocket, managing space, improvising, and playing well together. Students will have an opportunity to play with others on a variety of instruments and learn how those instruments can fit together successfully in a cooperative and supportive setting. Each month Luke will bring new techniques and concepts in improvisation to help students develop their own style and expand their improvisational language. This is a great class for beginner to intermediate players looking to get into bluegrass. Students will learn the basic chords and melody of one or 2 classic Bluegrass songs and how to approach playing them in a jam setting. Over the course of about an hour the class will play the tunes several times as a group exploring different possibilities for kickoffs, solos, endings and more. At the end of the class we open up the jam! Justin plays guitar and banjo with Cherry Blossom Special and runs jam sessions along and runs jam sessions along with mandolinist Nick Cameron and fiddler Mari Carlson. He has been teaching guitar, banjo and mandolin in Takoma Park since 2012. This class was designed to give people an affordable entry point to Bluegrass music, and help grow the community. Thursdays 7:00-8:30 pm May 21st, May 28th, June 4th, June 11th (jam session), June 18th This class is designed to help aspiring flatpickers learn essential skills, concepts, and techniques for Bluegrass Guitar. Whether you are new to bluegrass guitar or you already play and you are looking for strategies to improve, this class will be great for you. Students will learn: \- productive practice habits \- exercises to improve and refine technique \- how to approach songs vs fiddle tunes \- how to interpret melodies and create a solo \- how to play confidently in jam sessions \- how to manage speed Over the first three classes students will learn and practice techniques to develop both the picking and fretting hands as well as a few favorite sons and fiddle tunes. The fourth session coincides with the Bluegrass Jam so students will have an opportunity to use their skills in a practical setting.
