Doesn't matter if you've sung your whole life or haven't sung since high school. Doesn't matter if you've been told you're tone deaf. Show up Monday and surprise yourself. Here's what to expect when you walk in: * A warm welcome and a name tag. You'll know somebody within five minutes. * Free voice coaching from me. Breath, tone, range, the stuff that makes you sound better fast. * We'll teach you the anthem in four-part harmony. You'll be standing next to a guy who's been doing this for years. He's got you. * We sing other songs too. The chorus has a full repertoire and you're welcome to stay for all of it. Rehearsals 6/1, 6/15, 6/29, 7/13, 7/27, 8/17 - Potluck Performance Jam 8/24 Learn to jam Grateful Dead songs in a group setting, exploring the balance between song structure and impromptu improvisation that made their music complex and fun for both players and listeners. Over several rehearsals students will rehearse a set of classic Grateful Dead songs in preparation for a potluck performance/ party. Open to all instruments and skill levels, this workshop will use songs selected by the class to create opportunities for all participants to play and grow. The goal of this class is to help musicians find new and cool repertoire that gets played around the DMV oldtime music scene. SMT Teacher, Jonathan Vocke, has been an active member of the community for the last 15 years and is a skilled educator, multi-instrumentalist, and performer. In each class we will cover 2-3 new tunes. Tunes will be taught using the aural method and chords and rhythmic nuance of each tune will also be discussed. We will listen to source recordings of the tunes and discuss chording, bowing and general rhythmic accompaniment.
