Join us before the lecture for a casual get together to mingle and chat about science! You can get excited about the lecture, talk about previous lectures, indulge in completely unrelated science, whatever tickles your fancy! We'll hang out at The Board Room for about an hour and a half then make our way to the Powell Auditorium. There's no kitchen at the Board Room, so feel free to bring any snacks or dinner with you! There are, of course, drinks available. As this is a bar, this will be a 21+ unofficial gathering.

This one is a historical musical drama about Ann Lee, the founder of the “Shaking Quakers,” the Shakers. For February's game of the month we are playing the futuristic adventure game "1000xResist." From the devs: *1000xRESIST is a thrilling sci-fi adventure. The year is unknown, and a disease spread by an alien invasion keeps you underground. You are Watcher. You dutifully fulfil your purpose in serving the ALLMOTHER, until the day you discover a shocking secret that changes everything.* It is available for PC, Switch, PS5, and Xbox. Let's get into some in-person games! For those new to the group, I have a wide selection of Nintendo systems on hand, and you're welcome to bring your own games, consoles or portable systems. A second TV is available. If possible, mention when you plan to arrive, as this can help in deciding when certain games would best be played. You can park along Armistead, Quantrell or Lincolnia, or Wilson. If you arrive after 6, you can also park on Breckinridge with no time limit. I can provide transportation from Van Dorn Metro before and after the event.

Come to Ellsworth Park with your little one for a fun time. Make a swing buddy. Explore one of downtown Silver Spring's park. Ellsworth Park is located next to the Friends of the Library Bookstore (old Silver Spring Library). There is parking, but if you live in downtown Silver Spring, it is just a short walk up Colesville Rd. The park has plenty of trees for shade. Two different play ages for younger and older kids to have fun. Hope to see you there.

During the Colonization Phase, each player takes a turn during which they take actions. The available actions depend on the side of the board they are on. If you are in orbit, you can take blueprints, buy and develop technologies, and take supplies from the Warehouse. If you are on the surface of the planet, you can construct buildings with your bots, upgrade these buildings using blueprints, take scientists and new contracts, welcome new ships, and explore the planet’s surface with your rover. ***Arcs*** is a sharp, tactical space opera game, for 2–4 players, set in a dark yet silly universe. Players represent officials from a distant, decaying and neglectful Empire who are now free to vie for dominance whether through battle, gathering scarce resources or diplomatic intrigue. Ready yourself for dramatic twists and turns as you launch into this galactic struggle. A deck of cards in 4 suits with ranks from 1-7 (2-6 for fewer than 4 players) defines the action selection system. These cards are played in a trick-taking adjacent system to select actions, take the initiative and declare Ambitions. The 3 declared Ambitions are what will score in that deal. Timing is everything. Bad hands must be mitigated by careful card play and benefitting from other players' card play. Battles are resolved quickly with the attacker choosing their level of risk. The defenders must be prepared with adequate defensive ships and cards in their tableau.

We meet at lunch each week and each meeting follows a fairly organized agenda. First all participants pass their business cards around. Then each member and guest is invited to give a one-minute overview of their company and what is a perfect referral for the week.
