Each Saturday, apart from the obvious conversations, we try to do some magic just so you can get a feel for it. The people that come along range from complete beginners to those that have been living the pagan life for some time. It doesn’t matter. Today's meetup is not to diagnose, treat or cure. Its educational. So would you not like to know what anxiety is? and what it is you can actually do about all your unwanted conditions so that you can be free. The education shared today is not related to Faith, Psychology or Psychiatry. It's related to Dianetics the Modern Science of Mental Health. By L. Ron Hubbard. If you ever felt there was something holding you back in life, ruining your plans and stopping you from being who you want to be, you were right. The Answers related to any condition that you don't like about yourself and want to handle can be found in this book. ***** What is Anxiety? Every problem can have a YES, a NO or a MAYBE as its answer. A person is as sane as he has YESES and NOES and as he does not have MAYBES. The number of maybes which a person is carrying in his mind is directly proportional to the extreme foolishness or irrationality which he is demonstrating. Now, you get what i mean? A fellow says "well, I- shall I go downtown? If he says yes or no, he gets action or no action. If he says maybe, he gets turbulence. Now, life consists of action or no action - just these two things. And as a result you get turbulence when a state of beingness or a state of not -beingness cannot be entered with regards to any particular subject. "Was it my fault or wasn't it my fault?" is the toughest of those problems. "Was she to blame or wasn't she to blame?" And when these things hang up on maybes on major problems, an individual becomes uncertain. Anxiety is simply the state of maybeness. It's "what will happen if ...?" That's Anxiety. "What will happen if....?" A person then doesn't have a yes or a no. He has an inaction category which is a turbulent category. (Category here means each of a possibly exhaustive set of classes among which all things might be distributed.) He does not dare act because he does not have an answer. The smooth functioning of a mind, reaction time, the ability of an individual to be decisive and therefore to be in action, is dependent upon his capability of handling problems in yes or no categories. You want to get an individual unstuck, clean up his maybes Now there are several ways to clean up maybes. One of them is just get him to face the problem with current data. that's all. Face the problem with current data and reevaluate and re predict from the point where he hung up in the maybe. He made a decision once: was it right one or the wrong one? And that is the start of the maybes. He made the decision once: was it the right one or the wrong one? Now he gets afraid to make decisions, so he hangs these decisions up in maybe, and there's the anatomy of it. ***** All people of goodwill are welcome at this meetup or at any time. Please join us this Sunday as we explore the question of the Mental Health Industrial Complex. This session will be moderated by Glenn. We will meet at the **CAPTAIN MELVILLE**, 34 Franklin St in Melbourne CBD, at 2.00pm for 2.15pm start sharp. There is no pre-requisite preparation necessary, nor a philosophical background; all that is required is a curious mind. These discussions are both a Socrates Cafe style discussion and lively metaphysical dojo, in the spirit of learning and friendly debate, so please feel free to challenge assumptions and be prepared have your own assumptions challenged! Find below some questions to consider, however these are free-ranging events and the below serve merely as a springboard towards a deeper discussion in waters unknown... Some points and questions to consider before the event: * Are mental health illnesses best understood as diseases, disorders, patterns of behavior, or socially constructed categories? * What distinguishes mental health issues from ordinary psychological distress, grief, or unhappiness? * Is there a meaningful boundary between mental illness and personality, or are we medicalizing temperament? * Are current diagnostic categories discovering natural kinds, or carving up a messy continuum for human convenience? * What would a society that took mental health seriously actually look like—in work, education, and law—and what trade-offs would that require? * In what sense, if any, are people responsible for thoughts or actions that arise from mental illness? * What do we gain, and what do we lose, when we describe a problem in medical rather than moral, social, or political terms? * How confident should we be in claims about prevalence, treatment effectiveness, or rising rates of mental illness, given how these are measured? * What was Thomas Szasz's argument in 'The Myth of Mental Illness?'. * Are identity disorders, such as transgender, mental health issues? * What role does loss of meaning in the world have to do with mental health? You are warmly invited to this immersive evening of Authentic Relating. This evening will involve fun and interactive exercises based around exploring the theme, "What is like to be in connection with myself and others?" This is a space for exploring feelings, sensations, boundaries, and self-expression through immersive exercises. This is about empathic collaboration and learning the art of expressing what is present in the moment. These beautiful practices really encourage an experience of increased depth and awareness, in a way that is sometimes not available in our everyday lives. The exercises work by creating a framework to explore communication in a non-scripted, in the moment way, which edges away from habitual patterns of relating and welcomes in more life, more breath, and more empathy. One of the benefits of practices, is that it helps with learning to become more aware of ourselves and others and how do we inter-relate. \*\*\*NOTE: It is recommended that participants have some experience introspection and shadow work, through participating in counselling, sharing circles, meditation, contemplation, yoga, or any modality that is designed to bring people into contact with their unconscious. This is stated as a duty of care, as the practices in authentic relating revolve around meeting ourselves deeply and coming into contact with how we are occurring the world. This process can be beautifully enlivening, and at times confronting, but the space is guided in such a way that it brings as much holding, and gentleness to the process as to make those courageous steps to share deeply, easier. Free In-person Meeting: Unwanted Emotions & Loneliness, How to Get Over Them
This is an in-person meeting. Did you know that unwanted emotions like loneliness, sadness, hopelessness, anger, fear, anxiety, or feelings of irritation don’t just fall on you for no reason. They are not random occurrences that simply happen to people's minds. They are definitely not chemical imbalance in your brain due to some nebulous chemical reactions by chance. Your negative emotions are the symptoms of the painful experiences that you have which are not healed, and which are still affecting you. The effects of these painful experiences are exacerbated by the pressures or difficulties of the other problems in your life. For instance, let's say you are already carrying a huge load on your back, then you cannot take on much more, but, let's say something else happens to you, such as the difficulties from the Pandemic, then the resultant combined weight on you can take you over the edge, kind of like the straw that break the camel's back. When this happens, people's attention usually goes to the straw that was added, but actually the majority of the weight had come from the huge load that were already there, holding a person down and causing a person issues. So how do you remove the huge load that was already there? How do you lighten them up? Is it possible to get rid of them? That is what this meeting will be all about. Running a business solo means I've been spending most of my time with myself. And AI tools, which are great for thinking through business problems, but terrible for actual human connection.
