AI Adoption is a deeply personal journey
We've spent the last few years measuring and celebrating AI adoption as if it were one thing - when really it's a deeply personal journey, and no two of us are on quite the same one. How it lands depends on where you're starting from, on how you think you'll be seen and measured for using it, and on what it's quietly doing to the craft you love.
Drawing not just on recent research and my own study, but on living it and talking with many others on the same path, this talk weaves those layers together. You'll leave with a clearer sense of your own journey, and that you have far more control over this technology's effectiveness than you might realise.
However you're feeling about all of this, you're not doing it wrong.
**Agenda (time in Melbourne/AEST)**
* 5:30pm Networking
* 6:00pm Welcome
* 6:05pm Main Presentation
* 6:35pm Q&A
* 7:00pm Networking
* 7:30pm Close
**This will be a HYBRID event:**
**Zoom link -** will be posted 1hr before event starts.
**Our Speaker**
**Annie Vella**
Annie Vella is a Distinguished Engineer at Westpac New Zealand, where she focuses on AI adoption, governing agentic systems at scale, and transforming the software development lifecycle. With over 20 years of experience across startups, scale-ups, and large enterprises in four countries, she has spent two decades on both sides of the engineer/manager pendulum — and actively encourages others to do the same. Having fallen in love with computers when she got her first Commodore 64 at age six, Annie has cared deeply about the craft ever since. That curiosity led to a Master's of Engineering exploring how professional software engineers experience the impact of AI coding assistants. Through her writing and speaking, Annie's aim is to help engineers and leaders find joy and pride in the work ahead.
Could the Federal Budget Cost You Thousands?
## **What every property investor needs to know about the changes happening to negative gearing, capital gains tax and trust taxation — BEFORE the rules change.**
The Federal Budget contained several major proposals that could significantly impact how Australians invest in property.
Changes have been proposed to:
* Negative gearing
* Capital gains tax
* Discretionary trusts
For many investors, these structures form the foundation of their wealth creation strategy.
But how would these changes actually work?
Who could be affected?
What opportunities still exist?
And what should investors be thinking about now?
At our [Melbourne meetup](https://events.resultsmentoring.com/meetup-vic.html?utm_source=meetup&utm_campaign=drn), **tax specialist Brent McCartney** will break down the proposed changes and explain what they could mean for property investors, developers, renovators and business owners.
**What you'll learn...**
**Negative Gearing Changes**
**Discover:**
✓ What the Government has announced
✓ Which properties may be protected under grandfathering provisions
✓ How the proposed rules could affect future purchases
✓ The implications for investors buying established versus new properties
**Capital Gains Tax Changes**
**Learn:**
✓ How the current 50% CGT discount could change
✓ The proposed inflation-indexed alternative
✓ What the changes could mean for future property profits
✓ How transitional rules may apply to existing properties
**Trust taxation Changes**
**Understand:**
✓ The proposed 30% minimum tax on discretionary trusts
✓ Why the Government says the changes are necessary
✓ How family trusts may be affected
✓ Potential restructuring opportunities available during the transition period
✓ Real-world examples illustrating the potential financial impact
**[RSVP now to attend FREE in-person or via Zoom](https://events.resultsmentoring.com/meetup-vic.html?utm_source=meetup&utm_campaign=drn)**
**Why This Matters**
Many investors spend years building portfolios based on rules that can change with a single Budget announcement.
The investors who understand the implications early have more options, more time to plan and greater confidence when making future decisions.
This session is not about politics.
It's about understanding the proposed changes and making informed investment decisions.
The proposed Budget changes could have significant implications for how Australians invest, structure and grow their wealth through property.
Whether you own one investment property or a large portfolio, this is an opportunity to understand the potential impact before important decisions need to be made.

**-> What are you selling?**
Nothing, these meetups are all about learning and networking with like-minded people.
**-> What are my Parking options?**
There is plenty of parking in the street.
We look forward to seeing you there.

Speaking & Leadership - Workshop - FAST FUN LEARNING
RED ROOM
Smashing! Try something new Thursday
Interactive workshop - Become the charismatic leader
Serious about improving your leadership - **Why mess, come to the best**
Why is Smashing different to other speaking clubs?
Just one member's thoughts, "The fun/laughs factor is definitely a point of difference. We keep it moving with high standards so it’s a nice balance. Too strict makes it tense and boring, too loose and we can lose the energy/commercial feel. SmashSpeak's vibe's in the sweet spot."
**Free parking** close: O'Connell and Cobden streets
**IMPORTANT: Be on time, as doors close when the show starts**
“Proudly Australian" – Free-flowing teamwork, greater good focus, sharing the stage, etc

SELF-CONFIDENCE! The key to your SUCCESS!
**Gain The Confidence to Be Unstoppable! Free Class.**
How to Achieve Self Confidence!
Without question, self confidence is the key to success. It determines how many of your goals you achieve in life and has an enormous impact on your happiness. It affects how people perceive you, your career achievements, your ability to take risks or try new endeavours, as well as your overall attitude toward yourself and others.
Self Confidence is something most people would like to have more of, but aren't sure how to get.
Did you ever feel more certain of yourself in the past?
Would you like to raise your self confidence ?
To increase self confidence, you have to understand what reduces it. If you know why this happens you can reverse the situation and rebuild your self esteem.
Self Confidence is self-determinism. One's belief in one's ability to determine his own course. As long as one has that, he's go the universe in his pocket. - L. Ron Hubbard.
This day you are able to Learn a few things about:
• The true source of security in life.
• How self-confidence, self respect and self trust interrelate, and what you can do to rehabilitate them.
• The exact steps to become more competent in whatever you do.
Today's free class will put you into a good position to help you achieve a new level of self-confidence, accomplish more and progress towards a higher level of personal survival.

Practising Group Conversations: A Structured Social Skills Meetup
# 🌟 *Breat Procrastination and Staring at The Crowd When at Social Events with Taking a Minimum Viable Step!*
Do you want to feel confident stepping into group conversations, knowing exactly what to say, when to say it, and how to build momentum naturally?
Do you want a clear structure that makes socialising feel *doable*, while still allowing real, organic, human connection?
This session blends **structure with spontaneity**, so you can practise social confidence in a way that actually works for your brain.
# 💬 WHAT THIS SESSION IS ABOUT
This is a **guided practice lab** for group interaction.
Instead of guessing what to say, you will work with:
• specific topics chosen by the group on the day
• simple, powerful questions to guide conversation
• structured rounds that make it easier to start and continue interactions
You are not performing or “being social” on command, you are learning a **repeatable process** that helps you enter conversations naturally and build depth from there.
The structure gives you clarity.
Your responses stay *real, personal, and fully your own.*
# 🧠 WHY THIS WORKS
## *Minimum Viable Steps (MVS)*
Starting conversations is often the hardest part.
So instead of forcing yourself to “be social”, we focus on:
### *Minimum Viable Steps (MVS)*
Small, achievable actions like:
• approaching a group
• listening for context
• asking one simple question
• sharing one small response
These steps reduce overwhelm and help you build momentum naturally.
You are not powering through, you are **following a chain of small wins** that lead into flow.
# 🔄 HOW THE SESSION RUNS
This session is structured into **timed rounds (approx. 8 minutes each)**.
Each round gives you a clear, simple objective.
## 🔹 *Structured Group Rounds*
• You will begin in small groups with a defined topic
• Each round includes suggested questions to guide interaction
• You are free to respond in your own way, nothing scripted
## 🔹 *Rotations*
At the end of each round:
• two people rotate out of each group
• each joins a different group
This creates:
• clarity on where to go next
• repeated practice starting new conversations
• exposure to different dynamics and people
*No guessing. No awkward hovering. Just clear next steps.*
# 💡 TOPICS & QUESTIONS
At the start of the session, we will:
• gather topics participants are genuinely interested in
• write them down and use them throughout the rounds
Each round will include **simple, open questions** related to the topic, designed to:
• spark conversation easily
• create direction without rigidity
• allow natural sharing and depth
You follow the structure, but what you share is always your own.
# 🌱 WHAT YOU WILL PRACTISE
• starting conversations decisively (again and again)
• entering groups with clarity instead of hesitation
• listening before contributing
• asking simple questions that open conversation
• building flow through small, manageable steps
• rotating between groups with confidence
• staying present without overwhelm
Over time, this becomes **automatic**.
# 📝 BEFORE & AFTER
At the beginning:
• you will complete a short reflection on meaningful connection in your life
At the end:
• you will share what worked, what did not, and what could be improved
This helps shape future sessions based on what actually supports you.
# 👋 A NOTE FROM THE FACILITATOR
This is not about being the most confident person in the room.
It is about learning a structure that helps you:
• take action
• reduce overwhelm
• build real connection step by step
You do not need to get it perfect.
##*** You just need to take the next small step.***
