A Poetry Workshop
Hey Poetry Lovers!
This group is on a roll. Here’s the gist:
We meet at the **Capital One Café in Chinatown** from **12pm - 2pm** every other week.
For enrichment, we start by reading and reflecting on a **“published poem”**, suggested by someone in the group. No advance preparation is necessary. But feel free to check out some of the poems we’ve read [here](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vSyE_wCLQCPHRrKmN5F9tOIeeRQUZESxjRXGVBoCF2uU8Gm0_d0uECiCBCQXEy6ksxfsBOhtRIOpW3T/pubhtml?gid=0&single=true&widget=true&headers=false%22%3E%3C/iframe%3E). Or submit suggestions for future meetings [here](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSexGc2Z2Kp6bZW0D3_hfJ7NUUkfNHf7TXX-43FglCeBd9EF2Q/viewform?usp=send_form).
Next, we **share our work and offer feedback**. Depending on attendance, everyone gets \~10 minutes to use as they like. (No need to share, though; you’re welcome to come even if you prefer just to listen.)
We maintain a **Discord server** to help share our work and communicate outside our bi-weekly meet-ups. If you haven’t used Discord before, take a moment to download it and create an account before arriving. When we meet you on Saturday, we will add you to our server, the “DC Poetry Workshop”, and can help you navigate the app if you have questions.
Finally, if you plan on sharing a poem, consider how you will do so. Some options include:
* Print 5-10 copies to distribute in person
* Take and share screenshots in the Discord chat.
* Copy the poem into a google doc, change sharing settings to “anyone with link”, and copy the google doc link into the Discord chat.
Most importantly, we’re excited to meet you!
Catch you on Saturday,
Diego / Ian / Cayden / Nate / Otasha / Lia / An

Greenbelt International Folk Dancers
Friday night Greenbelt International Folk Dancing has gone "virtual".
As we all practice good social distancing, many in our folk dance community are feeling the absence of our usually scheduled local dances. In response, please join us for the Greenbelt Virtual Folk Dance Session.
Let’s keep dancing!
• Connect and dance in our own homes
• Watch hosts leading familiar dances
• See each other; listen and dance to our favorites
How: We will be using the ZOOM video conferencing app to share music and live videos of the leaders and each other. This can be used on a desktop, laptop, or smartphone.
What to Expect: Your hosts are Linda Mansdorf, Vita Hollander, Ben Hole, and John Robinson. Collectively they will play 25-30 dances, which should approximate the number of dances normally done on a Friday night in-person event. The hosts will do a quick teaching or demonstration of the steps to some of the dances that may be less familiar to you or just as a refresher, but the session is not designed as a workshop, so the majority of the evening will be spent playing dances that many of us already know and love to do.
How To Join Us: Each week we will send an email with the Zoom Meeting link ID. Make sure John Robinson knows you would like to receive this email with the link. John's email address for Info: j_srobinson@verizon.net.

DC Pre X-Mas Dining – Modern Southern at Succotash Prime (Chinatown)
Let's sneak in one more event prior to Christmas! I’m inviting the group to an evening at **Succotash Prime (Penn Quarter)**, the DC home base of celebrity chef Edward Lee, for his take on Southern cooking with an Asian twist, cocktails, and bourbon.
**→** **This Event's final 'Change Your Mind' RSVP Cutoff is 10a Friday, 12/19**. Our **[No-Show / Late Cancel policies](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BU0ZjQNdMwTjIkZVGlOlw8rTIia5xWhE/edit?usp=drivesdk&ouid=107783167750249492259&rtpof=true&sd=true) apply**.
**FOOD:** Succotash Prime is the DC outpost of Chef Edward Lee, a James Beard Award winner and former Top Chef contestant who made his name in Louisville, Kentucky. The menu blends Southern comfort with Korean influenced touches. Recent diners and the restaurant’s own highlights focus on shrimp ‘n’ grits, chicken and waffles, fried green tomatoes, and Jamie’s cornbread with hot honey, along with a serious bourbon list and strong happy hour program. Save room for dessert! There's a very rich Chocolate Bourbon Pecan pie and classic Hummingbird Cake with coconut and candied pecans.
The bar program stands out with bourbon forward cocktails and seasonal Southern riffs. Many attendees end up starting with craft cocktails and then moving into wine or bourbon flights during dinner. The Bourbon and Rye list is impressive.
→ Check out the full dinner menu: [https://www.succotashrestaurant.com/menu](https://www.succotashrestaurant.com/menu)
→ Visit the restaurant site: [https://www.succotashrestaurant.com/](https://www.succotashrestaurant.com/)
**SPACE**: Succotash Prime sits inside a former early-1900s bank building, and they kept the scale and structure intact instead of boxing it in. The main dining room opens into a tall atrium with a mezzanine level wrapping the room, so you get open sightlines across multiple levels no matter where you sit. The marble details, vaulted ceiling, and original architectural elements give the room real presence without feeling stiff. There are large central and balcony-level bars, plus smaller carved-out rooms built from former bank areas, including a converted vault. The layout works well for conversation, drinks before dinner, and lingering after the meal.
+++++++++
**→** Tax/Tip combo is our required 30% tax/tip policy (no exceptions)
**→** Limited to 8 slots
**CLOSEST METRO**: **Metro Center** (Red/Blue/Orange Line) – approx 9 minute walk. exit around 12th Street & G Street NW. Walk east then south toward F Street NW and 9th Street NW until you reach 915 F St NW.
**Gallery Place / Chinatown** (Red/Green/Yellow Line) – quick walk. Head south on 7th St NW toward F St NW, then walk west toward 9th Street NW along F Street NW to 915 F St NW
For trip planning, try WMATA’s “Plan a Trip” feature at www.wmata.com
**PARKING:** Street parking is tight during dinner hours—consider Metro, rideshare, or garage options in the area.
***
***Attendance Notes:***
* **If you RSVP “YES,” please commit to showing up**. With 5,800+ members and limited seating, we can’t afford no-shows. It’s not fair to other members or to our relationship with the restaurant.
* **No-Show / Late Cancel rules apply** (see links below).
* **Can’t get a slot?** Join the Waitlist and check back frequently—spots often open up before Noon on the day of the event. You may also receive midweek confirmation emails to reconfirm your RSVP, so please check your inbox.
* **Billing Reminder**: Add 30% for tax and tip to your food and drink total. This is part of our group’s expectations and helps smooth out service with the restaurant.
* **New Members / 1st Timers**: [Visit our FAQs](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1C0GeZMWGwc1akHj63aViQ_5n1YpBqPt_/edit?usp=drivesdk&ouid=107783167750249492259&rtpof=true&sd=true) and [No-Show Policy](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BU0ZjQNdMwTjIkZVGlOlw8rTIia5xWhE/edit?usp=drivesdk&ouid=107783167750249492259&rtpof=true&sd=true) if you're unfamiliar with how we run things.
Looking forward to dining with you!

In-Person Event: The Answers to Depression & Anxiety
This is an in-person meeting. At this meeting you will get answers to depression and anxiety. Find out the source of them and how to get rid of them.
Did you know that unwanted emotions like anxiety, depression, unhappiness, loneliness, hopelessness, anger, fear, or feelings of irritation don’t just fall on you for no reason. They are not random occurrences that simply happen to people's minds. They are definitely not due to a chemical imbalance in your brain from some nebulous chemical reaction "by chance".
Your negative emotions are the symptoms of the painful experiences that you have which are not healed, and which are still affecting you.
The effects of these painful experiences are exacerbated by the pressures or difficulties of the other problems in your life.
Come to our Meetup, where we can introduce you to some of the knowledge, tools and techniques of the breakthroughs in the field of the mind that we can apply to this ever important area of life.
Be sure to click on the red "Attend" button below to come to this local event. We look forward to seeing you there.
This group is created by the Hubbard Dianetics Foundation of Central Ohio and Church of Scientology of Central Ohio.
