Data Engineers London x Snowflake User Group May Event
Data Engineers London is partnering once again with the [London Snowflake User Group](https://usergroups.snowflake.com/london/) to bring you a data engineering event in the heart of the City of London this May 🎉 Sign up is either through this Meetup event or on LSUG's event. Agenda is as follows: **6:00pm:** Doors Open & Networking at [Kubrick](https://kubrickgroup.com/) **6:30pm:** Talks Start 🗣️The Speakers🗣️ ***Utilising Snowflake Openflow for Regulatory Reporting*** **Lucie Gamby**, Data Engineer at Entain ([Lucie's LinkedIn](https://www.linkedin.com/in/luciegamby/)) ***Talk Abstract*** Regulatory reporting often comes with a large list of requirements (in our case, an 80-page document full of them) alongside specific and complex business logic as a given. With a large volume of sensitive data to handle, we wanted a solution that would help keep our data within the same environment - hence the choice to explore Openflow as an option to facilitate our delivery to regulators. This session will cover what it took for our team to go from no prior knowledge or experience of Openflow to deploying a production-ready system with it. Demonstrations, What Went Wells, Pitfalls, and what we’d do differently next time! ***Speaker Bio*** Lucie graduated from Lancaster University with a degree in Computer Science in 2023 and joined the Sigma Labs graduate scheme in January 2024. After a 15-week coding fundamentals course, she specialised in Data Engineering, and then placed at Entain in June 2024. Having been exposed to a wide range of tools and platforms since, Lucie has since been tasked with leading the charge for her team to adopt Snowflake Openflow into the tech stack. ***Data Engineering: People, Patterns, Platforms*** **Yomi Bazuaye**, Data, Analytics and ML Engineering Leader ([Yomi's LinkedIn](https://www.linkedin.com/in/yomibazuaye/)) ***Talk Abstract:*** What should *your* data platform *do*? What should it *not* do? How should it harness AI? Stories and examples from building and scaling data platforms across multiple industry sectors and organisations. ***Speaker Bio:*** Yomi is a Data professional with many years of experience in data and analytics engineering. In recent years he has focussed on helping organisations build self-service data platforms, create data products and design and implement a data culture. He has worked within multiple sectors including online banking, e-commerce and supply chain, using multiple tech stacks, including: AWS, Snowflake, GCP, Azure, Databricks. See you all on the 26th May 🤩 Happy Networking 🍻 If you would like to help keep us running, please support us on [Buy Me A Coffee](http://buymeacoffee.com/dataengineerslondon). MAY Classic: The Encyclopedia of the Dead - Danilo Kiš
New members are always welcome. :) **Description:** ***The Encyclopedia of the Dead*** ([Serbo-Croatian](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serbo-Croatian "Serbo-Croatian"): *Enciklopedija mrtvih*) is a collection of nine stories by Yugoslav author [Danilo Kiš](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danilo_Ki%C5%A1 "Danilo Kiš"). Combining history and fiction in what critics have seen as a postmodern fashion, the stories (which have been compared to the work of [Jorge Luis Borges](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jorge_Luis_Borges "Jorge Luis Borges")) have helped cement Kiš's legacy as one of the most important 20th-century Yugoslav authors.

#WPLDN - May 2026: Block Editor Migration & WordPress Security
#WPLDN - May 2026: Block Editor Migration & WordPress Security
Join us for another evening at #WPLDN, where we're tackling two of the more practical conversations happening in WordPress right now. First up, the migration question: how do you move thousands of legacy ACF Flexible Content posts into the block editor without losing your weekend? Then we're shifting gears to security, with a live interview exploring how AI is reshaping both sides of the WordPress security landscape. 📅 **Date:** Thursday, 28 May 2026 ⏰ **Time:** 6:00 PM BST 🎟️ **Cost:** Free (Registration Required) \-\-\- **Session 1: How We Automated Migrating Thousands Of Blog Posts From ACF Flexible Content To The Block Editor** 🤝 **Speaker:** Cameron Jones ([cameronjonesweb.com.au](https://cameronjonesweb.com.au)) Before the block editor arrived, ACF's Flexible Content field was the go-to for giving clients control over custom layouts. The block editor now offers a far more powerful experience, but that leaves a familiar problem: how do you migrate thousands of existing posts without manual rebuilds? Cameron will walk through how his team automated the entire process with just a few lines of code. Cameron Jones is the owner and lead developer of Shortie Designs, a web design agency based in the little beach town of Victor Harbor. With over a decade of experience building websites at various local and international agencies, he acquired Shortie Designs in 2024 to take the leap from developer to business owner. With a particular speciality in plugin development, Cameron is also the founder of Mongoose Marketplace, where his free and premium plugins have been downloaded over 400,000 times. He also works with the free donation platform Ko-fi to maintain their official WordPress plugin and authored the popular “WordPress Plugin Development For Beginners” course, which has been taken by almost 1,000 students. \-\-\- **Session 2: A Conversation with Robert Abela & Tim Nash: WordPress Security, AI & the Human Factor** 🤝 **Speakers:** Robert Abela ([Melapress](https://melapress.com)) and Tim Nash ([WP Security 101](https://wpsecurity101.com)) What are the biggest security challenges facing WordPress today, and how is AI changing the landscape for both attackers and defenders? Robert and Tim join us for a live interview and audience discussion covering modern WordPress security, user account protection, and why user awareness and visibility are becoming critical to keeping sites safe. Robert Abela is the founder and CEO of Melapress, where he and his team build WordPress plugins that help people manage and keep their websites and users secure. Tim is a WordPress Security consultant and professional doomspeaker. He teaches WordPress Security through his [wpsecurity101.com](https://wpsecurity101.com) course and provides consultancy services via Tempered Ltd. \-\-\- **Schedule:** 🔹 **6:00 PM** – Doors Open & Networking 🔹 **6:30 PM** – Welcome & Session 1: Cameron Jones 🔹 **7:30 PM** – Short Break & Networking 🔹 **7:45 PM** – Session 2: Robert Abela & Tim Nash 🔹 **8:30 PM** – Social & Wrap-Up \-\-\- **📢 RSVP Now!** Whether you're knee-deep in legacy content migrations or thinking through your security posture, there's plenty here to chew on. Bring your questions, bring your scepticism, and we'll see you at #WPLDN! \-\-\- **Venue Information** **The Bridge** is a charity supporting women to make positive choices and encouraging improvements to fitness, health, and wellbeing. The venue features a plant-based café (supplied by Girls Who Grind Coffee) and is just a 5-minute walk from London Bridge Station. \-\-\- **Massive thanks to our sponsors who make these free events possible:** [DreamHost](https://www.dreamhost.com/partners/wpldn/), [PodcasterPlus](https://www.podcasterplus.com/?utm_source=wpldn&utm_medium=banner&utm_campaign=partnership), [Mollie](https://www.mollie.com/gb/integrations/woocommerce), and [Kinsta](https://kinsta.com/) \-\-\- If you're interested in being a featured speaker at an upcoming event, we'd love to hear from you at [https://wpldn.uk/speak](https://wpldn.uk/speak). **🎥 - Media Release Terms** By attending, you understand and accept that portions of the event may have audio/photo/video-recorded and/or live-streamed and may be used by the organisers. Samuel explores how context, retrieval and state shape intelligent behaviour in real-world applications. **Speaker Two:** Leif Åstrand **Title:** UI with Redis and Vaadin using 100% Java **Synopsis:** Full-stack development can be intimidating, especially when going beyond the typical CRUD. A reactive application with real-time updates requires knowing things like WebSockets on top of the regular frontend stuff. But what if you could build a full-featured full-stack web app using only straightforward Java? No JavaScript, no HTML, no CSS. Just Java. Join this live coding session to discover how to develop a reactive web app using Spring Boot, Redis and Vaadin. Starting from scratch, we'll cover everything: real-time updates, external services, and a good-looking UI. All in Java. **Speaker Bio:** Leif has been working with full-stack web application development in various ways for the past 20 years. Building applications, building frameworks for building applications, and in the last few years mainly working to understand what it takes to build applications. Works at Vaadin in areas related to product management, research, architecture and product development. Ensuring Software Quality in the world of AI Developers - Matt Eland
Ensuring Software Quality in the world of AI Developers - Matt Eland
**Important time note:** Please plan on arriving between 5:30 and 6:00 as the elevators lock after 6 and you'll need to message us and we'll need to come get you. The building address is 4450 Bridge Park The entrance is 6620 Mooney St, Suite 400 You will need to scan your ID at the door to get a visitor badge. **Abstract** Like it or not, AI agents are now capable of turning a quickly written paragraph of requirements into a pull request that is ready to be integrated into real-world production applications and it's now our responsibility to make sure AI doesn't go rogue and take down prod - or corrupt our data by misunderstanding the requirements or our existing schemas. In this session we'll explore strategies to protect our codebases through unit and integration testing, documentation, and code review along with additional ways of providing context and guard rails to our AI agents as they carry out the work we've assigned them to do. By the time we're done, you'll have a firm grasp of the problem and understand some helpful options for protecting your codebase from vibe coding mishaps getting YOLOed into prod. **YouTube Link** TBD

Prompting Is Not Magic: How to Give AI Better Context
Prompting Is Not Magic: How to Give AI Better Context
Most people use AI like a search box: they type one sentence, hope for the best, and get frustrated when the answer is generic, wrong, or useless. But getting better results from tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and other AI systems is not about memorizing magic prompts. It is about learning how to give the AI better context. In this beginner-friendly session, we’ll break down how to make AI dramatically more useful by improving the way you communicate with it. You’ll learn how to give clearer instructions, provide examples, set constraints, ask for better output formats, and use follow-up questions to turn a mediocre answer into a genuinely useful one. We’ll cover practical techniques you can use immediately for work, learning, writing, coding, planning, research, and everyday problem solving. We’ll also touch on why these same ideas show up in more advanced AI systems, including RAG, agents, evaluations, and AI workflows. No technical background required. Bring your curiosity, your questions, and maybe one real task you wish AI was better at helping you with. **What you’ll learn:** * Why “better prompting” is really about better context * How to structure requests so AI gives more useful answers * How to use examples, constraints, and output formats * How to iterate when the first answer is not good enough * How these skills connect to more advanced AI workflows This meetup is for anyone who wants to move beyond basic ChatGPT usage and start getting more practical value out of AI. LOGISTICS AND PARKING: The talk starts at 7:00 PM. The first half hour is reserved for everyone to get set up and mingle. Free pizza and drinks! The cheapest parking option is to find street parking, which will only cost you a few bucks. Otherwise, park in the nearby veteran's museum lot for $8. It's highly recommended you avoid the nearby $15 garage parking.
