Celebrating the Year of Gaudí: An Evening with author Gijs van Hensbergen
In 2026, Barcelona marks the centenary of Antoni Gaudí's death — a year in which the city has also been designated World Capital of Architecture by UNESCO, placing it at the heart of a global conversation about one of history's most extraordinary creative minds.
To celebrate, we are welcoming one of the world's leading authorities on Gaudí and Barcelona's modernist architecture for an evening of conversation, stories and discovery.
**Gijs van Hensbergen** is a Dutch art historian, Hispanist and author whose work has brought Gaudí to readers around the world. Trained at the Courtauld Institute of Art, he wrote the first critical biography of Antoni Gaudí, widely praised as the definitive account of the man and his work. He has since written on Gaudí's Sagrada Família for Bloomsbury, appeared on CBS 60 Minutes, BBC Radio 4 and TV3, and lectured at institutions including the Museo del Prado, the National Gallery London and the Reina Sofía. His writing has appeared in The Guardian, The Times, the Wall Street Journal and El País, among many others.
This evening, in conversation with moderator **Nick Lloyd**, Gijs will take us behind the stones and spires — into the life, obsessions and genius of Gaudí, and what it means to be in Barcelona during this once-in-a-century year. Nick Lloyd is a writer, historian, and founder of Spanish Civil War Tours, a project dedicated to bringing the stories of the conflict to life through guided visits to key sites across Catalonia and Aragón. Over the years, his work has helped connect countless visitors with Spain’s complex past, weaving together the political, cultural, and personal dimensions of the war.
This event is made possible thanks to ***Seven Dreams of Gaudí***, an ambitious concert project co-created and produced by Renée Cooke, premiering at the Palau de la Música Catalana as part of the Year of Gaudí celebrations. Find out more at [sevendreamsofgaudi.com](http://sevendreamsofgaudi.com/).

MISfits - Monday Improv School
Barcelona's newest improv adventure starts now. Every week, Matt and Noah will host an evening of improv fun and games at Flaherty's in the Gothic Quarter.
The evening begins at 19:30 where participants will meet, sign in, and grab a beverage.
At 20:00, we will have a focused, 1-hour workshop set at an intermediate level to work on one aspect of improvisation (e.g. characters, cooperation, physicality).
We'll then have a short break for bathrooms, food, and/or beverages followed by an improv jam at 21:15. No experience is necessary to play in the jam and it's okay to just watch.
Come for the workshop or the jam, all are welcome on this island of misfit toys. Both events are donation based.
!ENGLISH! MONDAY DOUBLE SESSION / CAFE - Philosophy Meetup: 19:30h - 21h
Hi and welcome to our next Socrates Café philosophy meetup!
Do you have a hunger for deeper understanding of yourself and the world? Do you value deep, honest and respectful dialogue?
If yes, then this meetup will be very interesting for you.
• WHAT IS A MEETUP ABOUT?
We ask, answer and discuss questions and ideas to stimulate critical thinking and to widen our perspectives with new concepts and thoughts.
The main purpose of these meetups is to enrich ourselves with the perspectives of others, not to convince others about our own perspectives.
Our meetups are about our own philosophies of life and not necessarily what the great philosophers and academics have said or written. It is not a debating club or a platform for proselytizing. Instead, we place the emphasis on questioning, open mindedness and challenging our own assumptions while listening to and respecting the views shared by others.
A Socrates Café meetup is considered a success when participants leave a discussion with many more questions than they had at the beginning.
• WHAT TOPIC IS DISCUSSED AT THE MEETUP?
Participants suggest topics at the beginning of each meeting. We then vote and choose that event's most popular topic for discussion. No academic training in philosophy necessary; just enthusiasm for exchanging ideas and points of view.
Some examples of subjects chosen on previous meetups:
* What ideals are worth dying for?
* Why are we never satisfied?
* Why is it that human beings know that the society is going wrong, leaders are well informed about it and things continue as is?
* Is identity necessary?
* How can it be that people in democratic societies are so obsessed with power? (Desire to be different, better, stronger than others)
* What is friendship?
• WHO PARTICIPATES AT THIS MEETUP?
Anybody is more than welcome to join our meetups. Our events gather people from different backgrounds, different cultures, while no philosophical background is mandatory.
Our usual participants are people that have a hunger for deeper understanding of themselves and the world. People that value deep, honest and respectful dialogue.
The inspiration for Socrates Cafe originates with the book of the same name, written by the philosopher Christopher Phillips. (Socrates Cafe: A Fresh Taste of Philosophy, 2002). Phillips felt that the Socratic method of dialogue and discussion should be practiced not just in academic settings, but among everyday people interested in examining deep questions together. Hundreds of Socrates Cafe groups now exist around the world. Wuthering Heights: Home, Hearth, Heath, Earth, Heart
Emily Brontë's classic novel Wuthering Heights is generally considered a romantic portrayal of undying love. Yet, when first published most readers were appalled by its transgressive nature, "unfeminine" characters and insinuations of taboo topics.
In this session we will discuss the historical and social context in which the novel was written and some of those transgressive features that continue to make it a hugely enjoyable and wild ride to read.
This session will be led by Aurora.
Bring wine/beer/drinks/food/snacks/whatever to share.

Improv Games in the Park, Spanglish version!
**(English version below)**
**NUEVO EVENTO: JUEGOS DE IMPROVISACIÓN – VERSIÓN “SPANGLISH”**
¡Hola!
**¿Puedo ir solo a mirar?**
¡Claro!

**NEW EVENT: IMPROV GAMES – “SPANGLISH” VERSION**
Hello there! We’re Joyce and Asha, and we’ve both been improvisers for a long time. We’ve teamed up with Dave to bring you this new version so you can enjoy improv games every week!
Since some Spanish speakers are also interested in joining, we’ll run the sessions in both Spanish and English so everyone can learn and improve together.
Don’t worry — you don’t need to be fluent in either language. The most important thing is to have fun! 🎭
Join us for a great afternoon full of fun games involving acting, improvisation, and theater! No experience or acting skills required. All you need is imagination! Anyone who is interested in trying something new is welcome. It's also a great way to meet people.
After the event we usually go for drinks and/or dinner together.
**What do we do in this event?**
We will play all sorts of games that involve acting and improvisation. Many of them you might know from the TV show "Whose Line is it Anyway?". The games we play are different every time, but here are some typical examples:
If you don't like some of the games, don't worry, you can participate in as many games as you like and it's perfectly fine to skip any games you don't like.
**How much does it cost?**
We're charging 2 euros per person.
This is just to help recover some of the expenses of the meetup account. We're hosting this event only for fun and we do not intend to make any money out of it.
You can pay in cash or by Bizum when you arrive at the event.
**Can I come to just watch?**
Sure! If you don't want to participate, or if you're not sure yet, then you're welcome to just come along and watch.
**If I want to join, do I need to sign up?**
Yes, please! Even if there are more than enough places, it is very important that you still sign up for this event. This is for two reasons:
1\. If not enough people sign up then we may have to cancel the event\.
2\. The more people sign up\, the more attractive this event becomes for other people to also sign up\.
**Where do we meet?**
We meet in the Parc de la Ciutadella. If you're coming from the Arc de Triomf and enter the park, turn left directly after the entrance. You will see a big industrial art piece (see photos). Keep walking until you passed it. We meet right behind this art piece.
When we arrive at the meeting point we usually upload a selfie to the photos section of this event, so you can recognize us. We also usually bring a small A4-sized meetup sign.
**What happens if it rains?**
In case of rain we will move the event to the Mercat Sant Antoni, where we can play under a roof. In that case, please keep an eye on the comments section of this event for further details.
**Do you have a Whatsapp group to stay in contact after the event?**
Yes, we do! If you want to join our group, please ask the organizers to add you, before or after the event.

THE BEAST/ La Bête (2023)
In the year 2044, in the age of AI, a woman named Gabrielle (Seydoux) tries to purify her DNA by purging the inherited memories of her past lives. She (re)lives her life in 1910 Paris and 2014 Los Angeles, and as the procedure goes on, the lines between her worlds become blurred. These three timelines have a lot of connective tissue holding them together; certain symbols and motifs appear repeatedly, not to mention Mackay’s Louis, a figure whom Gabrielle seems drawn to in each lifetime.
*The Beast / La Bête* can be streamed for free on Kanopy or the Criterion Channel. It's also available for rent on Amazon Prime, AppleTV and YouTube.
Columbus Comedy Improv Meetup at Gresso's!
Whether you've never done improv before, or you've done it for so long you were quoted in *Truth in Comedy*, or anywhere in between, come join us! Swing by *Gresso's* for the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup**!
The idea behind improvised comedy is to create entire scenes from scratch. A suggestion is taken from the audience and laughter is built on the spot. This can be done in game form, like *Whose Line Is It Anyway, Make Some Noise,* or *Wild 'n Out*; it can also be done in a longer way, to tell a complicated story, like *TJ & Dave*.
Our meetup, which is central Ohio's longest running (and FREE!) weekly comedy event, brings the games for you to play in a safe, supportive, and compassionate environment. Afterward, many members will hang out in *Gresso's* itself and get to know each other. Not only is this a lot of fun, but you get to work on thinking faster on your feet, your public speaking, plus it's an excellent way to meet new people and build relationships that will last a lifetime, and you do that while laughing your butt off!
Ask yourself if you want to join the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup**, and say "*Yes, And*" that you'll have a blast!

"Metal Slinger" by Rachel Schneider
Join us as we discuss our June pick: Metal Slinger by Rachel Schneider!
Book description:
Even though she's not one of them, Brynn has spent her life among the Alaha, training to be a guard and waiting for the chance to attend the annual market hosted by the Kenta–the very same people who exiled her adopted community to a life at sea. Going to the market is a rite of passage eagerly anticipated by all young guards, but Brynn does not anticipate breaking a century-long peace treaty while there. Nor does she plan for the intense encounter with an enemy soldier that now threatens to unwind the fragile coexistence between their people–and everything Brynn once believed about herself to be true.
Brynn's loyalty to the Alaha is tested when the truth of her identity is brought to light by this soldier who's taken an oath to bring her back to where she belongs. Narrowly escaping death on the violent high seas, Brynn's connection to the Alaha is further tested when she learns about the world of magic she's been denied. She was once certain of her fate and where she belonged, but the dark, knowing eyes of this stranger have her questioning everything, including her heart.
Packed with knife fights and seafaring adventure, METAL SLINGER is the smash-hit start to the romantic fantasy duology, the Fire & Metal series
